18.01.2022 Barbell Romanian Deadlift. One of the more under utilised movements that I personally rate highly. BB (barbell) Romanian Deadlifts are great for the posterior chain predominantly the hamstrings and glutes. By starting with the bar in the rack just above knee high and taking two small steps back you’ll find yourself in your starting position. Utilising the bar from the rack will minimise excess energy use as opposed to deadlifting it up from the floor. By first depressing the... scapulas (more common cue shoulder blades down and into the pockets, *NOT SHOULDER BLADES BACK*) then pushing the hips back and slightly bending the knees you’ll find the bar wanting to travel straight down to the floor, control the decent until you feel the tension build in the hamstrings. Once you feel this tension reverse the movement and come back to the top repeat this until you’ve finished your target reps. This can be modified in at ways one of the more common adjustments made is by utilising dumbbells or the use of TUT, (time under tension) controlled accent and decent (with longer times under tension ie. 3 second eccentric 2 second concentric) this will make these movements just a little bit worse meaning you will optimise your muscle hypertrophy.
