Now that the JobKeeper wage subsidy has come to an end, some businesses that relied on the payment are now on the verge of bankruptcy, while others have already laid off staff. 20.01.2022 I had the absolute pleasure to be interviewed by George Donikian, anchor of online News service TheInformer last week stating further facts of the ongoing decimated Travel Industry. My 11-minute interview captures my rawness, vulnerability, fact and a plea for Government to save our industry. George first came to attention as the Face of Multiculturalism in 1980, when he was chosen to anchor the much acclaimed SBS World News. In 2011, he ended a 35-year career as news anch...or with 3 national networks, to set up Donikian Media, to make feature documentaries & pursue the kind of projects that really excite him. Currently Chair of the revolutionary digital streaming platform called FNR, Football National Radio. Feel free to share, and let's hope one day we can all travel again as we used to! #saveourindustry #COVID19 #travel #travelagents

18.01.2022 Today - the day before job-keeper ends - is a day of grieving with all my travel agent colleagues who are now having to close down their travel and tourism businesses, have lost their homes and livelihoods, had to go into extreme debt keeping their businesses alive after a full 12 months simply to administer cancellations, credits and re-bookings for clients (with no income for themselves), having to lay off loyal, experienced staff who work in an industry they love. With ov...er 12 months of an embargo on trade for international travel agents and an anticipated further embargo until the end of 2021. There is still no government plan to guide and support travel and tourism businesses through this pandemic. "It’s expected that between 100,000 to 150,000 people receiving JobKeeper will lose their job or business" with estimates of up to 70% of travel agencies closing their doors when the support program ends tomorrow, March 28. But according to Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg: "The Morrison government continues to have your back".. how so ??? All travel agent support programmes announced by the government for travel and tourism businesses have been a complete fiasco with a huge majority of agents not qualifying because of 'glitches' in the system or falling through eligibility cracks... feels like the end of an era The govt has extended a job keeper like arrangement for Qantas and Virgin international flight attendants but everyone else from tomorrow will be cut loose with the international border closed until further notice.

16.01.2022 Our thoughts of the day...

16.01.2022 With 12 days to go with the potential end to our beloved travel industry, I am writing this message to you. Over the past 12 months, I have refunded (to date) a total of 1.5 Million Dollars, and still, pending is a further $150,000 owed to our travel agency. Not to mention the outstanding principal credit note value of approximately $120,000 for those who cannot receive a refund. With many Airlines, Cruise Liners, Suppliers (Wholesalers) going into administration and insolven...cy, it's made the life of a travel agent extremely difficult. The past year has seen thousands of jobs amongst the entire industry be made redundant, leaving people jobless, homeless (to the point, like myself) where we have been made to sell our homes and more to survive. The industry now is at its knees! The Government Grants that we are and had been offered over the year made us see some light at the end of the tunnel. However, these grants didn't come easy. They were coated with conditions, changes, and more conditions leaving us in a world of hurt. The term, ‘carrots have been dangled’ at us has been thrown around, and rumours were being heard, but the reality is and was, leaving us to have sleepless nights, lots of tears and pain quicker than you can or could imagine. Many agency owners and business locations have shut down and closed the door with no return. Many, including myself, have done just that. Fought countlessly with landlords to get a potential rent reduction or review, but the fight, still to this day, has left us all in tears wondering how we will be pay our outstanding debts? With zero income, for now, 12 months for travel agents, wage loss into the hundreds of thousands and now the end of Job Keeper come 1st April, we will be left with nothing but hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of debt! The Government recovery scheme, V2.0, has just been announced. However, they have failed to advise us on the most crucial factors, such as the criteria around 'how we will be

16.01.2022 Australia will extend its restrictions on cruise ships entering the country and a ban on overseas travel for another three months.

15.01.2022 Why Australians will be banned from going overseas for at least another YEAR - with a powerful government agency leaving a very strong hint - Australians are set to be banned from travelling overseas for at least another year - but restrictions could last even longer if there's another coronavirus outbreak. Holidaymakers have been barred from leaving the country since March 25 and Prime Minister Scott Morrison has strongly indicated that restriction would continue until a coronavirus vaccine was developed. The Reserve of Australia has now announced it expected the border to remain closed for at least another year, as it updated its economic forecasts.

03.01.2022 End Of An Era: Flight Centre Retires Infinity Holidays Brand Our team will be making contact with you in due course with further information about refunds and credit notes that are with Infinity Holidays. After twenty-five years as Flight Centre Travel Group's in-house wholesale brand, the company has announced that Infinity Holidays is being retired in Australia as part of a product restructure.... In an announcement released late yesterday, Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) said that due to the impact of COVID-19 on the business, ‘A sustainable, lean business model is key to the company’s ability to effectively rebound and enable investment in critical growth areas.’ As such, and following leisure network changes that have already been made, ‘FCTG has elected to streamline and centralise its multiple product support areas’, thus retiring the Infinity Holidays brand.
