23.01.2022 Remember it Takes two to pull

22.01.2022 URGENT UPDATE Good Morning, With Jersey now in Lockdown for an uncertain period, many of you appear to be enjoying riding as your 'escapism'. PLEASE READ my e...arlier post, giving clarity from BVA on the essential guidelines for animal welfare and treatment on an emergency basis, as this also applies to all professionals and para-professionals within the industry. This statement also informs us that pets cannot transmit COVID19. Therefore, I sought advice from GOJ as to whether Veterinary Chiropractic and complementary therapies are considered essential businesses. I am pleased to report that GOJ considers businesses providing such complementary veterinary services as essential to ensure the welfare of animals. With these government guidelines in place and continued support from my Insurance underwriters; I am able to continue offering my services, for animals who appear to be compensating & not happy in their work. I MUST POINT OUT HERE VISITS ARE NOT ROUTINE THERAPY SERVICES We must continue to adhere to strict social distancing and sanitising protocols. I am happy to treat most horses alone (certainly existing patients) however this decision, amongst others, will be made during the IN-DEPTH TELEPHONE CONSULTATION. Any questions please ring 07742366519 You 'd be surprised at the help I can offer without possibly leaving my couch! Please, keep safe, keep distance, keep clean

21.01.2022 COVID-19 advice in relation to pets and livestock 29th March 2020 Pets cannot transmit the disease. The good news is, multiple medical and veterinary health agencies, including the *World Organisation for Animal Health and the *British Veterinary Association, have confirmed that there is no evidence that companion animals can spread the disease. There is no evidence of human-to-pet or pet-to-human transmission of COVID-19. This means that pets cannot catch COVID-19 and beco...me ill, or get it into their system, or act as a true carrier. As always, it is standard veterinary advice to wash your hands after stroking, touching or feeding your pet, or cleaning up after your pet.

20.01.2022 FAO ALL GUERNSEY CLIENTS Four weeks have passed since I was last in Guernsey. However, with the unruly rise of Covid apparent here in Jersey, I have made serious decisions not to return to work in Guernsey until the R number has significantly reduced and the 'social spread' is somewhat controlled. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have concerns. As always I look forward to your feedback; I am happy to monitor videos and offer guidance to assist remotely where ...I can. Wishing you all an enjoyable festive period and a healthy 2021 Jo 07742366519

She also highlighted the considerations required for entering and exiting the equipment to make sure it is safe for each patient. There are many therapy techniques used in hydrotherapy and these are chosen on an individual basis. Barbara explained the difference between static and dynamic work and how these can benefit the arthritic dog. 04.01.2022 Brain-teaser! Diane Schroeder, DC of Eliot, Maine was was inspired to write this as she listened to speakers during last weekend's Lyceum at Sherman College. Can you do better?!

03.01.2022 How can hydrotherpy help treat your dogs arthritis?? The heat of the water can have an immediate effect on pain levels. Harnessing the effects of water ca...n help strengthen the supporting muscles and increase range of motion in affected joints. The therapist can also make postural adjustments to the patient, using the buoyancy of the water to support the dog whilst gently shifting their weight to re-educate balance and posture of a dog to avoid "bad habits" in posture, developed from shifting weight away from painful areas, from making them more painful. The one-on-one attention your dog will receive can be really beneficial in terms of mental stimulation and fun for your dog! Have you tried hydrotherapy with your dog?? We'd love you to share your experience and give a shout out to your amazing local hydro centre!

02.01.2022 http:// Terminology Tuesday - The Central Pattern Generators // When a foal is born, the gaits are already embedded. The limb sequences and their diagonal connection...s are already present in all gaits. This is because of the Central Pattern Generators. Put simply, the Central Pattern Generators (CPGs) are dense clusters of nerves in the spinal cord that coordinate the limb movements. There is one in the cervical thoracic region (withers) and another in the lumbar/sacral region (loins). The concept of the Central Pattern Generator can be a complex topic to understand, but the key pieces of information that are interesting are: The CPGs enable the patterns of the gaits without any input from the brain. The front CPG is the decision-maker - it informs the hind end, which provides feedback. Take a look at this animation of the Central Pattern Generators in action. Notice how the front is informing the back, and they are both directing the limbs. There is some feedback from back to front but the main message regarding the gait itself is coming from the front CPG. One of the reasons the great masters of equitation emphasised that the walk is the ‘mother of all gaits’ is because the walk is the slowest gait, and each limb is separated, so it’s easier for the trainer to target the precise moment a leg can be most influenced, which is the beginning of the lift (swing) phase.
