25.01.2022 I love incorporating bone both into my diet. You might think this is a new trend however bone broth is a staple in many countries and cultures, known to nourish your digestive and immune system. We all know that chicken soup is known is good for the soul and known as Jewish penicillin #foodismedicine BB is not just winter delight, it is a great drink to have instead of a coffee, afternoon with a snack or as a staple when you cant eat like me yesterday having food poiso...ning. All I could stomach was small sips of water and broth. I also love to add it when I cook sauces, casseroles, sauté vegetables or soups you can add it to anything. Now you can get it in concentrate forms which is great because it replaces those high salt, preservative filled stock cubes Personally I dont make bone broth I just have not mastered it and now that I have found and love @thebrothsisters, I rather leave it to the pros SO WHAT IS BONE BROTH? ISNT IT JUST A SOUP? Broths are full of essential minerals including calcium, magnesium and phosphorous, making it ant-inflammatory and immune-boosting! -Bone broth contain high amounts of collagen that forms the structural building blocks of strong skin, hair and nail growth. So I guess you could say it is like a youth elixir. - The long cooking time is key because it breaks down cartilage and tendons releasing anti-inflammatory compounds called glucosamine and chondroitin sulphates. Both of these compounds found in expensive supplements for arthritis and joint pain. - For me and with my sore tummy I am using it because it really supports your gut health. And people who suffer from digestive issues such as chronic inflammation or leaky gut syndrome really find it helps as it is rich in gelatin. Gelatin is essential for connective tissue function and acts to seal and heal the gut. Who else loves a brothy? See more
24.01.2022 Double tap if you love pancakes as much as I do! The other day I was craving pancakes We had about a cup of left over roasted pumpkin in the fridge, so I thought why not & made a delicious stack of pancakes which I drizzled with pure maple syrup So this weekend give this a go & let me know what you think! ... Ingredients - 1 cup of mashed pumpkin- roast or steam, I like it roasted is it brings out he sweetness - 1 3/4 cup of milk (you might need more to get the right consistently) I used almond milk but you can use whatever milk you like - 1 1/2 cups of quinoa flour, I have used buckwheat before which works well too - 1/2 tsp turmeric 1/2 tsp sea salt 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1tsp of vanilla extract 1 tsp of baking powder -coconut oil -2x eggs - 3 tablespoons of maple syrup To Do! 1. Use leftover pumpkin or prepare your pumpkin- you can steam until tender or roast in the oven. If you roast in the oven you can season it with your salt 2. Mash the pumpkin to fill 1x cup 3. In a bowl, stir together the mash with the milk, eggs, vanilla extract & maple syrup- you want it to be a pretty smooth mix. 4. In another bowl, add the flower & the spices. Mix in the mash and stir until combined. You can used a food processor too 5. Prepare your frying pan with some coconut oil, making sure it doesnt get too hot 6. Add 2 tablespoons or 1/4 cup of the mix onto the pan. 7. Once producing bubbles, flip & cook the other side You can serve the pancakes with vanilla coconut ice cream, maple syrup or maple toasted pecans They even work well cold in the lunch box for school kids!
23.01.2022 I love this quote by Brene Brown, she has many quotes & books to be honest that strike a chord. In a a way I like this quote for food and our relationship with food. It is how I would like to teach young girls and women to think of food. To foster a connection instead of using it as a tool to reward or punish themselves, to GIVE and RECEIVE food without judgement.... I remember coming from my teens & early 20s fearing food. And yes, sometimes I have those thoughts but thankfully I have learnt that food is so much more than just calories. It is a powerful form of medicine, it helps run intricate pathways in your body to help you feel & look vibrant & it brings people together... just to name a few Now, speaking of food here is my nut butter brownie recipe- tweek as you wish! 2X cups of nut butter, I used the one with chia seeds which add good fats & great fibre! 1/2 cup of cacao powder 1/2 tsp baking powder 2X eggs 3/4 cup of maple syrup- you can add more or less or use 2-3 madgool dates (soaked and then blended) 1tsp vanilla extract Mix all the ingredients into one bowl & then pour it into a lined tin. I baked it on 160 to 180 & you decide how long- I wish I took them out sooner so they would be a bit gooier. This would be a great dish for breast feeding mums, just add some brewers yeast & voila! 22.01.2022 These three nutrients without a doubt promote satisfaction (satiety) when consumed together in a meal or snack. They help the brain turn off hunger hormones & help your belly feel full. Knowing this makes meal/snack planning a lot easier & I use this with kids & for adults. When you & kids eat in a balanced way you begin to eat meals that offer an array of nutrients. It offsets hunger, which in turn stops endless snacking or the the desire to eat foods that are higher in ...sugar or that are highly processed. Protein is very filling, in children & adult studies it has shown that having protein at meals helps curb appetite, control weight & reduces fat gain. Fat is also known for increasing a sense of satisfaction & fullness, & for a longer time. Healthy fats, such as olive oil, avo, contain omega 3 fatty-acids which help heart health & brain function & GROWTH! Fibre, fills you up but also helps with regular bowel movements & a healthy gut environment. You can find fibre in fruit, veggies, whole grains, beans, nuts & seeds. You can also add fibre with flax, flax meal & chia seeds When you build a plate, whether its for a meal or snack 1. Start with protein 2. See if that protein has inherent fat or do you have to add it (for example full fat yoghurt has protein +fat) 3. Build the rest of your plate with fruit, vegetables & grains. See more
22.01.2022 Tonight it felt like soup night! I roasted butternut, pear, zucchini & and 3 cloves of garlic (covered them in aluminium foil so they didnt burnt) After they caramelised I blitzed them & added them to bone broth concentrate & chicken stock with split yellow peas. ... We made garlic & cheese croutons with some old rye bread and the rest... well the rest is history! Tag a friend who loves to soup it up See more
21.01.2022 Yup this is me, I am retired Can I get a double tap if you are the same?
21.01.2022 Now Im not one for detoxes as our bodies naturally detox all the time, HOWEVER I am the biggest fan, even a cheerleader for people to do a digital detox. What Ive noticed being off the socials for a couple of weeks is 1. Better sleep 2. More present with myself & my loved ones 3. Less anxious & self-critical ... 4. More time to do other things that I said I didnt have time for like meditating Its been a really nice, especially with the manic end to the working year Who has done a digital detox? What have you noticed?

It can be so hard to think of a meal or eat well when you are exhausted & hungry (am I right) Tonight I simple grilled some burger patties, chopped a sweet potato into fries & made a big salad. ... 16.01.2022 Do you listen to your gut? Ever-growing body of research confirms a powerful link between our gut and our brain. Did you know that our gut has its own nervous system? Where our brain can send messages to our gut via signals. This connection is the gut-brain axis and its why when we feel anxious we can either feel sick in our stomach or feel like butterflies are manically fluttering in there. I find people with IBS or sensitive tummys get worse systems when they are s...tressed! (Wheres the nearest loo?) One of the most intriguing and I feel powerful facts is that around 80% of the serotonin in our body is made in the gut. Even though I am formally a nutritionist, I do believe we are all our own nutritionist. When we begin to pay more attention to how we feel after we eat, we can learn how to read our bodys messages and learn whats right for us and whats not. This is why mindful eating is amazing! A few tips 1. slow down and chew chew chew your food. It helps release satiety hormones in the brain 2. Put down the phone and turn off the tv... look at your food, appreciate what is on your plate 3. Place your knife and fork down between bites, slow the pace down. 4. It take at least 20 minutes for your body to register it is full How do you look after your second brain?
16.01.2022 Healthy chicken fajitas As we all know sauces & flavourings contain a lot of nasties such a flavouring, additives, colourings, too much salt & sugar. Not only does this effect kids behaviour but it can contribute to headache & migraines. When I take clients on a low chemical diet, they make their own flavourings & find they love it more than the store bought flavourings! ... After I browned some garlic & added the chicken breast I used about 1/2-1 teaspoon of 1. Paprika 2. Ground cummin 3. Cinnamon Which made a really yummy Mexican flavour without the nasties & is super cost effective! For vegans or vegetarians you can sauté lentils with this mix of spices.. works a treat & tastes delicious! See more

14.01.2022 Oh hey sorry I have been MIA! I had to get a new phone & lost all my logins... in my head! Would love to know how everyone remembers or keeps their passwords because I am terrible at it. (No matter how much fish oil I consume ) The only thing I have missed is the meal & just beautiful inspiration I get from scrolling on all of your accounts. A lot of people have told me they have digitally detoxed on the back of my (forced) digital detox & we all feel the benefits! I know I have spoken about before, but have you tried it?

10.01.2022 How crazy that tomorrow is one month till Christmas Christmas parties are in full swing & I feel the busy time of year is getting busier. With change in routine & commitments through the roof, easy healthy dinners can be hard to think of! ... Here is a twist on Carbonara for some dinner inspiration. 10.01.2022 We all know that what we put into our mouths is very important, however sometimes we forget other very important factors that influence health outcomes & wellbeing of our children. 10.01.2022 Lemon, thyme & garlic chicken with roasted zucchini & honey glazed carrots This morning while my eggs were boiling I put chicken thighs into a big bowl. I then added specs of thyme, some garlic paste, zested a lemon & used juice with olive oil to make a marinade. Then tonight just chopped some veg, cooked the thighs in a pan to caramelise on the outside & then baked it to cook through.... To make it most substantial you can have it over some jasmine rice, because after baking you are left with a delicious sauce.
09.01.2022 The process of starting solids is loaded with strong opinion, changing research, and contradictions. Do I use a spoon or do I let my child lead the way? Let me tell you, there are pros and cons to both sides of the argument and they will change year to year. If you spoon or let your baby lead the way, you still need to ask yourself, is my baby getting enough iron? ... Why? Babies (and children) need iron for their brains to develop, for strong immunity and growth. From 6 months old their maternal stores start to deplete. Mothers milks is not adequate enough to meet the demands of the dramatic rise in the babys iron requirements. Formula-fed babies get what they need though the iron-fortified formula. Starting solids is also known as complementary feeding, and should begin at 6 months unless your child is showing signs earlier. I see a lot of parents by no fault of their own only offer fruit and vegetables and carbohydrates, which is find for vitamins and minerals but not great for iron and other nutrients that come from meat products etc. From my work with mothers and the ever-changing advice and research, combined feeding techniques ticks a lot of boxes and ensures your baby is getting enough nutrients and energy required to grow and be happy. Each feeding technique offers great learning lessons however I am not entirely convinced that a baby is getting enough iron and other nutrients such as zinc and B12, using the traditional BLW approach. Dont get me wrong, I love a lot about BLW such as your baby learns to self-regulate their eating on their own (starting and stopping their eating according to their appetite.) Which is why I am an advocate for combined feeding techniques- it truly works and is the best of both worlds. If you are concerned you can contact a health professional like myself [email protected] Without sound nutrition education and a plan put in place, a lot of unnecessary confusion, worry and missed opportunity for important nourishment happens. Has anyone tried combined feeding? See more
09.01.2022 The happiest Santa I have ever met! Christmas is only a few days away, which means 2018 is coming to an end! This year has been a biggie in more ways than one. 07.01.2022 As the new year is approaching goals & resolutions are bombarding our social pages &... thoughts. From the year that was 2018, I definitely have a different outlook to what I want my 2019 to look like & I am actually consciously setting goals, which I hadnt before. What I want to focus on in 2019 is well rounded health & wellbeing. ... It might sound quite obvious but it was something neglected in 2018. Perhaps it was seeing my husband in hospital one too many times & seeing the gross effect of stress on my body & many other bodies. The only doctors I want to see in the new year are; Dr Sunshine Water Rest Air Exercise Diet So for you who like to set goals, why not base them on these doctors. I know for a fact that your other goals, like your ideal body, or luscious hair, glowing skin will be a beautiful by-product. You will also gain so much more, like joy, sense of calm & pure contentment. What goals do you have for 2019? See more

04.01.2022 The anticipation you feel when the next mouthful comes... & for the weekend
03.01.2022 I knew it was bad but not to this extent
03.01.2022 Sunday Roasts- perfect end to a weekend & my favourite way to get the family around the dinner table. My fondest memories are from when I was a little girl, sitting around a big table with all my cousins & enjoying my Gagas roast. The power of food is incredible, not only for our bodies but the way it brings people together, creates memories & fosters traditions. From my experience there is a lot of anxiety around food, from weaning to going through the fussy eating phase... & beyond. However dont forget, on this 18 year feeding journey with your child/children there is a lot of joy that comes with it! From sharing and making your family recipes to having memorable nights around the table (even if your child refuses to eat the scrumptious meal you just laboured over ) Sometimes the greatest accomplishment is getting everyone to the dinner table, not necessarily what food goes into a mouth See more
02.01.2022 Breakfast- Baked eggs with tomatoes, avocado & baked pancetta Consuming high quality good fats on a daily basis is recommended for hormonal balance, stabilising your blood sugar levels, improving your insulin se sensitivity and minimising your sugar cravings. The fats we should completely avoid, or try to are trans & hydrogenated & refined vegetable oils. These types of fats are found in your packaged foods, readymade meals, cakes in a packet & cookies (better idea... is to get into baking) When we have good fats in our diet, we make adequate levels of oestrogen, progesterone & testosterone. These sex hormones help us to feel energetic, confident & plain just ourselves. Out of balance & we feel anxious, lethargic, moody, cant sleep (and a whole long list of other things) See more
02.01.2022 Throw back to 1994 where my addiction to peanut butter on celery sticks began. Now, fast forward to 2019 & celery juicing is all the craze & miracle juice. To think that the humble stick I loved to crunch, could be juiced & be a miracle cure? Now if you have been reading the 70,000+ posts about celery juice, you would be convinced that if you drink a glass on an empty stomach it will not only help with cancer but mental health issues, eczema, chronic illness (sounds... a bit Belle Gibson esc) Apart from the strong taste which apparently is hard to drink on its own, juicing strips away gut loving fibre. We know scientifically with what WHO has brought out, that a high fibre diet can reduce the risk of developing heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and colorectal cancer by a significant 16 to 24%! One claim of celery juice is that it is super hydrating, but so is a glass of water And another is that it helps with detoxification- well good news, our body detoxes naturally thanks to our hard working liver and our ability to sweat and poop! So for now, until I see more scientific evidence, I will be lathering my celery sticks (with loads of fibre) with delicious nut butter & enjoying my water with a slice of lemon (I implore you to do the same ) See more
02.01.2022 Celebrating my mothers birthday with the most delicious dessert EVER! Sublime pie from @tartisanmelb I would write more but another serve of pie is waiting for me ... Thank you @tartisanmelb for another great birthday treat @ Brighton, Victoria, Australia
02.01.2022 Quick dinner inspo- Five-spice chicken with broccolini. Credit goes to my friend, Laura who whipped this up for us after a busy day at work. So fresh, healthy & EASY! I made my version up as I went along! These are approximate measurements for 6 chicken thighs. 1. In the chicken bag I covered the chicken in Five-spice powder & made sure it was well coated. In a baking dish added 1 tblsp of crush garlic & ginger 2. 1 tblsp of AC vinegar- I didnt have rice wine vinegar so ...had to improvise 3. 1 tblsp of honey- if this dish is for kids under 1, substitute with maple syrup or rice malt syrup 4. Splash of reduced salt soy sauce 5. Splash of water to make more of it & then mixed well & added the thighs. 5. I marinated it for about half a day but you can do less or longer... 6. When ready I baked it in the oven- apart from the fact I dont always like to fry I hate to clean up so marinating & cooking in one dish is such a time saver!!! 7. I then heated up some wild rice & lightly steamed the broccolini. When cooked I drizzled some sesame oil. The chicken had a delicious sauce which I added over the kitchen... I wouldnt do that if you are giving it as BLW because it has more salt in the sauce. I hope you will enjoy this dish as much as I did! See more
01.01.2022 Jazz up your meal with these yummy roasted tomatoes I halved grape tomatoes and then covered them in some olive oil, a sprinkle of oregano , a sprinkle of garlic powder (I had no fresh garlic) salt n pepper, and then a teaspoon of coconut sugar. 01.01.2022 And just like that we are about to round up the second week of 2019! This salad has been on repeat & can definitely be enjoyed for the rest of the summer months or a during the working week. 1. I prepped the sweet potatoes by chopping them into small chunks, drizzling them with olive oil & a small splash of maple syrup (maybe a tablespoon or less) ... I then seasoned them & let them roast in the oven. 2. In the mean time, I prepped the walnuts with a little olive oil & sea salt flakes- I love flakes as it gives a lovely burst of salt against the sweeter potatoes. I make sure the nuts are coated and then roast them till lightly brown. 3. Then the messy part, I got the jewels from the pomegranate! Once everything is cooked, I assemble it on the rocket & drizzle it with lime juice and olive oil- simple. This salad is SUCH a crowd pleaser ... it has freshness, crunch, salty, sweet & sour.... so basically all your taste buds are dancing It has complex carbohydrates & amazing good fats to keep you full & your hormones happy. You can thank me later See more
