23.01.2022 Hangin up my doula hat to have my own pregnancy journey was not a decision I took lightly but one that had to be made. How fortunate I was to end on the biggest high with this incredibly powerful family . . Mumma’s mild surges started early evening, as always I recommended to rest, rest, rest. By 11pm I was in the car on my way to their house. Throughout the night this mumma instinctively rocked, moaned, rested, bathed, hydrated, danced & me & her partner were there as onloo...kers supporting her every need. Gradually her surges became more powerful, closer together but she continued to take each one head on & trusted in her body. At 9am we could see & she decided it was time to go to hospital. We arrived shortly after to this mumma instinctively pushing. Listening to her body she was rocking, swaying & baring down. To bare witness to this strength & intuition was truly magical. Within 2 hours of arriving this mumma birthed her beautiful baby girl with her partner loving & supporting her the entire way. This look of absolute love, joy, relief, power, strength was overwhelming for us all to see (including the midwife and student midwife) as we all just sat in that moment with them. . . Being a doula is not just a job. It is an inner wisdom, calling, love of preparing, educating, supporting all things pregnancy birth & beyond. Being there every step of the way, building a strong trusting relationship with that family. . . Thank you to this incredible family for allowing me to be a part of this journey with you See more

18.01.2022 Discovering the cuddle curl when you breastfeed your baby lying down. When I was pregnant for the first time, I remember being struck by something a mother at a... prenatal class told us. She recommended all new mothers get the hang of, early on, breastfeeding lying down, for the simple reason that this eliminates the need to parent for as many as 12 hours out of every 24. From my cursory observations, it was already apparent that motherhood was a tiring business and, as I’ve always been fond of my rest, I squirreled away that nugget of advice early on. A mother at my yoga for pregnancy class, who was expecting her third baby, recommended we read Three in a Bed, I didn’t. When I actually found there were three in my bed, the title came drifting back to me in the still of the night. I bought the book and devoured it, feeling instantly exonerated for keeping my baby with me at all times. After a frightening separation from my son immediately following his birth, I’d struggled to breastfeed. I often ended up lying down with him, exhausted, and at a loss how to encourage him to latch on. He seemed to fight with my breast, as though he were trying to get it out of his way rather than in to his mouth. But it was lying down with him on the bed, half drowsing in and out of sleep, that he first managed to latch on well and breastfeed properly. The brand new Moses basket and heirloom reconditioned cot with expensive new mattress were never needed. Babies learn to breastfeed by breastfeeding was another remark that was becoming a reality for us. Read full artcile....https://bit.ly/2O8x1ZT . . LET’S NORMALIZE BREASTSLEEPING Breastsleeping: NORMAL, HEALTHY, SAFE, COMFORTING. Breastsleeping is a term coined by infant sleep researcher James McKenna, of the University of Notre Dame. It defines the act of a breastfeeding mother sleeping in close proximity to her baby, with feeding occurring throughout the night. It is a practice that has become clouded with fear, guilt, and misinformation in our current society. This article aims to provide parents with evidence-based, practical information, so that they can feel empowered and confident about their sleeping situation, whatever it may be.
