25.01.2022 Our partnership with Wholesome Child goes beyond the kitchen at our centres. We are excited to bring to our Journey families the first Journey x Wholesome Child webinar! Focussing on the weekly shopping trip, Mandy will talk us through her top supermarket tips. Stay tuned

24.01.2022 At Alphington our children are heavily involved within role modelling. The children love to mirror their educators and conduct their own play with their peers. Here is little miss 3 reading a group time story to her peers, while showing great confidence doing so. Engaging the children within these experiences allows them to gain confidence, resilience and a sense of ownership within their environment.

23.01.2022 The nursery children helped Kobi by making some sensory bags using different materials that we had collected. The children watched on with curiosity as she then filled them with water before sealing them shut. Once they were ready, we were very eager to play with them. We used our hands to gently jiggle the water and watch the items move around As we discussed the different colours we could see. We quickly discovered that we could pick the bags up and scrunch them in our hands and they would make a loud noise. Some of us even tried to sit on the bags, and we thought this was very funny..

23.01.2022 Painting with different objects Throughout the day the children engage in a variety of art and craft experiences. Here we see our Toddler children exploring paint with a variety of different objects. This experience invites children to express their ideas and build upon their creative skills, develop their fine motor skills while experimenting with texture.

23.01.2022 Today we welcomed some new additions to our toddler room... Bluey and Nemo. The toddlers were very excited to greet our new fish and we voted on their names! The children are extremely happy to take very good care of them! Welcome Bluey and Nemo to our Alphington family

22.01.2022 Welcome back for our second handy hack of Nutrition Week! Cooking with children is a brilliant way to increase their willingness to try new foods. By turning cooking into fun sensory play with no pressure to try what is made, children often surprise you with their curiosity and enthusiasm to give new foods or textures a go. But we get it, it can be messy and so is often avoided! Paediatric Nutritionist and Founder of Wholesome Child Mandy Sacher, has the following advice, when cooking with kids at home, try prep ingredients in the sink to make the clean up a breeze! This is how I love cooking with my own children and it makes the mess no fuss at all. Another fun and easy strategy to encourage fussy eaters to try new foods is by using cookie cutters to turn things like cheese slices and sandwiches into their favourite shapes.

22.01.2022 Only two days left and we’re excited to share with you the recipe to a Christmas favourite fruit mince pies ! Thanks Wholesome Child! Swipe for the full recipe.

22.01.2022 Eating fresh produce is important when trying to boost veggie intake, and enjoying fresh, seasonal produce is something we focus heavily on at Journey. Making fresh produce go the distance is so important to ensure you can get the most out of your weekly shop. Our Nutrition Week hack of the day is brought to you by Wholesome Child! We hope you find these tips on how to keep produce fresher for longer helpful. If you have more tips of your own, we’d love for you to share below!

22.01.2022 We’ve recently been exploring the marvels of loose parts and recycled materials! Did you know that loose parts present countless play & learning possibilities for children as each item has endless potential? Today, the children were investigating the effects of pouring sand through a PVC pipe. They joined multiple pipes together to create a longer tunnel, and when asked what would happen if we poured water instead of sand? Our little engineers worked together to create a water fountain! Experiences such as this create so many learning opportunities for children including preparation & planning, mathematics, problem solving & concentration. The result? A fantastic fountain created to water our plant at the end.

21.01.2022 This month the toddler children have been focusing on emotions. During their group times they have been identifying and discussing the different types of emotions and understanding the many concepts. Extending on from this the children created frames through the art form, that expressed their emotion at the time. Getting creative is what our children do best!!!

20.01.2022 We really do have an amazing community at Journey Alphington! Our families are why we love what we do. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Feeling the love

20.01.2022 In recent weeks, the children have created their wish lists for Christmas and went an excursion to the post office to send the letters on their merry way. By doing these sorts of activities, the children are able to engage in the local community.

20.01.2022 Here's our first Nutrition Week handy hack! Switching to whole grains is the easiest way to make a positive nutritional impact to your children’s diets. This means swapping refined grain products for whole grain alternatives and is as simple as choosing brown rice over white rice, whole grain oats instead of processed oats, or wholemeal bread instead of white bread. Always read the nutrition label and look for the word whole in front of wheat or the grain. And watch out fo...r misleading labelling such as mixed grain. To find out more about how to read nutrition labels and make some simple swaps to boost your family’s nutrition, you can sign up to The Wholesome Child Academy for free, and go through Mandy’s complimentary Wholesome Shopping course. 15.01.2022 Join us during the school holidays and dress up in your favourite costume or as your favourite character!!

15.01.2022 Our toddler children explored the concept of shapes. Our toddler room educators created different patterns with masking tape on top of the white paper. - This intrigued the toddlers and they wanted to explore. The children picked the colour paint that they wanted to use to create the shapes on the paper. After they had created their little work of art, they pulled of the masking tape which revealed the different shapes that they had been discussing. They were able to identify the different patterns and what shapes they were able to create. Using these types of experiences builds upon the children cognitive development and brings out a creative spark whilst doing so!!

We also welcome local community groups to join our spoonville world. We’ve already seen amazing creations placed into our garden, and enjoy watching it grow each day.

06.01.2022 The toddlers created a very interesting experience today.... Their view on how they may feel when they are feeling emotional and how anger can make us feel inside. During group time the toddler room educators explained what happens when a Volcano gets angry.. then they watched a short video on how a volcano explodes and why!! The children were very curious and this lead to making their own volcano and watching the explosion occur!! Such a creative way to learn hands on.

05.01.2022 Remembrance Day at Journey Alphington. Today the children and educators stood quietly for the moment of silence to show our respect. Many of the children then asked questions around the Poppies and what they represent. Leading to the children wanting to create a master piece of their own.

03.01.2022 As our toddler children continue on learning all about emotions, they used their creativity and came up with emotion faces. During their group time discussions they used a mirror to check out their different faces.. and how they look when feeling these different emotions. The educators placed the mirror on the table and the children then created their own faces using different art materials.

03.01.2022 With the weather in Melbourne this week changing from warm to cool and back again, the children in our kinder room begun discussing with each other what activities they like to do in cold & warm weather. Many children said they enjoy having a fire and roasting marshmallows. Before long the children had collected some materials to add a fire to our camping area. This child led activity was fantastic to watch and also sparked an interest about fire safety. Allowing the Educators to speak with the children about fire safety and the precautions we must take when doing some of our favourite things .

01.01.2022 It was very cold this morning, so we thought it would be a great idea to teach the children about the weather. We started off with a small snow experience. We grabbed cotton balls, which were our snowballs and got our artistic on!. The children were then able to paint their own snow balls and stick them on their paper mountains. The children loved this, which prompted a discussion about when we might see snow.
