22.01.2022 This week we have planned activities for reconciliation week (27th May to 3rd June), which is a journey for all Australians as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. During this week we have listened to lots of dream-time stories, practiced out fine motor skills and experienced some sensory activities that built on our knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island culture. - Toddler 1

At Journey Banyo we love being sustanable wherever possible and absolutely love it when our families are too, using reclaimed itams for the wrapping and last years Christmas cards cut into gift tags in order to limit waste and the effects on the planet. On behalf of all the Educators, we would like to say thank to all our families for their memorable gifts this Christmas. May all have a lovely Christmas and enjoy time with their loved ones

Happy Birthday Banyo

14.01.2022 Partnerships with families are very important to us at Journey Banyo! One of our families provided resources for us to create ‘The Celery Experiment.’ Our little scientists set up the resources; filling jars with water and adding the food colouring and the celery stalks to the water. Together, we predicted what we thought might happen. We discovered that the celery drank the water, colouring its stalk and leaves the colour of the water, it was a great way to visually explore how plants water themselves.

14.01.2022 Show and Share Each month the children in the Pre-Kindy and Kindy Room are invited to share something that represents our topic of the month with their educators and friends. This month, the topic was "What do you want to be when you grow up?". We had an incredible Show and Share day, with many family members attending, sharing with us what they do for work.

14.01.2022 To support the Pre-Kindy/Kindy Room childrens social and emotional development, we have been exploring what kindness and friendship means. We have read lots of excellent stories like Why Cant I Play? by Elizabeth Hawkins and The Red Feather by Ben Kitchen to stimulate discussion and awareness of others and their actions. It is important to provide children with the tools they need to self-regulate and to successfully engage with others. We have also introduced Pete the Cat (created by James Dean) to assist us in learning about resilience.

14.01.2022 Welcome back for our second handy hack of Nutrition Week! Cooking with children is a brilliant way to increase their willingness to try new foods. By turning cooking into fun sensory play with no pressure to try what is made, children often surprise you with their curiosity and enthusiasm to give new foods or textures a go. But we get it, it can be messy and so is often avoided! Paediatric Nutritionist and Founder of Wholesome Child Mandy Sacher, has the following advice, when cooking with kids at home, try prep ingredients in the sink to make the clean up a breeze! This is how I love cooking with my own children and it makes the mess no fuss at all. Another fun and easy strategy to encourage fussy eaters to try new foods is by using cookie cutters to turn things like cheese slices and sandwiches into their favourite shapes.

13.01.2022 Securing an extra day has never been easier with the KindyNow App. Download the free app to instantly view vacancies in your childs room and book an extra day at the click of a button: http://kindynow.com/download

12.01.2022 Our team at Banyo are always keeping our skills up to date to ensure your children are in the best hands. Thank you to our wonderful trainers at Fire EMT and Hero Headquarters for facilitating training.

12.01.2022 ABCits easy as 123! This week, weve been doing a variety of different experiences to help the children learn to recognise the letters of the alphabet! The Kindy children have been very engaged in exploring letters on the light box; examining their shape and tracing them with their fingers, engaging in pre-writing. Theyve also been fishing for letters using magnets!

10.01.2022 To support the many Journey families in lockdown across Australia, were pleased to announce two upcoming family webinars . Please see below information for each webinar and registration links. Thursday, 20 August, 1:00pm: www.bit.ly/JELWebinarWC Thursday, 27 August, 1:00pm: www.bit.ly/JELWebinarQC

10.01.2022 In Toddler one our focus is to build strong relationships with our children and our friends. We love helping our friends and cheering them up when they are sad, we make sure our friends have their belongings like their hats or their water bottles when outside. Spending time with those who make us happy and care for us make our days so wonderful.

09.01.2022 Some of you may have seen our Acknowledgement wall in the foyer with a beautiful piece of art work. This was a custom made piece for us, created by a lovely lady named Carol Ferguson. Carol is an Aboriginal woman descended from the WakkaWakka, GabbiGabbi and Bigambul tribes. She has a great love of Aboriginal art that was passed on to her from her father, Robin O'Chin, an Aboriginal artist, well known for his traditional paintings, and creation of artifacts and carvings. Haze...l met Carol 8 years ago when she lived in the beautiful opal mining town of Lightning Ridge, and have continued to be inspired by her creations, that can be seen in art galleries in NSW and Queensland. We believe as a centre that it is important to honour and acknowledge the first custodians of the land. Carol and her family have roots in Brisbane, which enabled her to create a very unique piece for us, with great meaning behind every brush stroke.

09.01.2022 Outer Space Lately we have been very interested in planets and space. The Toddler 2 children have been looking at the Solar System and the different planet sizes. We used ball rolling to make our own planets and have been painting a large box black to make into a spaceship. These activities have helped the children to extend on their fine motor skills.

08.01.2022 Reconciliation Week (27th of May - 3rd of May) "National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia." - https://www.reconciliation.org.au/national-reconciliation-/ To encourage the children engaged in this we set up a collage activity and they created their own look on the Aboriginal flag.

07.01.2022 This month the kindy children have been learning the cycle of a broad bean. After placing the seeds into bags of cotton wool and watching the beans sprout, the children had fun planting them into the outside gardens. This experience allows the kindy children to watch the beans grows from a seed into a plant while taking responsibility of look after them by watering and providing sunlight.

07.01.2022 The children in each group were presented with a colourful bowl of fruit and vegetables, depicting the colours of the rainbow. They were invited to create a group painting expressing their interpretation of ‘eating a rainbow’. The children were provided with various resources such as paint, edible paint (made of fruit and veggie peel) and the peel and core of an abundance of fruit and vegetables. This created beautiful colours and textures. The children worked together, encouraging each other in their ideas, inspiring each other to create, sharing resources and taking turns. The end results are so beautiful.

07.01.2022 Authentic experiences, in which the children can explore Indigenous culture, have been embedded into the Pre-Kindy/Kindy Room program. In recent months the children have used symbols in storytelling, as well as creating their own interpretations by drawing in sand/on paper and making them with play dough. We investigated animal tracks, using photos from camping trips, and had many animal hunts! We also shared some dreamtime and Indigenous stories, as well as Indigenous art pieces.

05.01.2022 Great to see so many diverse jerseys on everyone!!! All in the name of raising awareness of Organ donation!!!! For more information go to jerseyday.com.au or register at donatelife.gov.au

04.01.2022 Over the last couple of weeks the children in the Nursery have shown a great interest in puzzles. Its amazing what little minds are capable of! Puzzles help the children improve their cognitive skills, problem solving abilities and hand-eye coordination.

04.01.2022 This week in Toddler 1, the children have been taking a little extra time after meals to work on their self-help skills! A bucket of warm soapy water was filled up and the children were given a cloth to wipe down their bowls. Everyone was very eager to have a go and all were super excited to see a new activity introduced to their routine.

03.01.2022 Are you notifying absent and making bookings through the KindyNow App? If not, now is your chance! Every booking or absence notified before March 25 = one entry into the competition

03.01.2022 Here's our first Nutrition Week handy hack! Switching to whole grains is the easiest way to make a positive nutritional impact to your children’s diets. This means swapping refined grain products for whole grain alternatives and is as simple as choosing brown rice over white rice, whole grain oats instead of processed oats, or wholemeal bread instead of white bread. Always read the nutrition label and look for the word whole in front of wheat or the grain. And watch out fo...r misleading labelling such as mixed grain. To find out more about how to read nutrition labels and make some simple swaps to boost your family’s nutrition, you can sign up to The Wholesome Child Academy for free, and go through Mandy’s complimentary Wholesome Shopping course. 02.01.2022 #harmonyweek. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Sounds just like us.

02.01.2022 To help support children’s self-help skills, here at Journey Banyo we offer them the opportunity to serve morning and afternoon tea themselves. Self-serving gives the children the chance to be independent, while letting them pick and choose what they would and would not like to eat.

02.01.2022 This week the nursery children enjoyed getting hands on making play-dough! To minimise the spread of germs, while still allowing the children to enjoy the sensory experience, they each had their own portions and played with it in their highchairs next to their peers.

02.01.2022 Its your final chance to register for our Wholesome Child Webinar this afternoon, beginning at 1:00pm. Click the following link to register if you havent already: www.bit.ly/JELWebinarWC

02.01.2022 One of our wonderful parent’s visited Pre-Kindy/Kindy to teach us about washing our hands. As a nurse, our parent was able to provide the children with important information about why we need to keep our hands clean. The children applied a special cream and used a black light to visually see the germs on their hands. They then washed them and checked under the black light again to see if they were using the correct hand washing technique!

01.01.2022 Its your final chance to register for our Journey x Wholesome Child webinar! Tonight, Mandy will demonstrate how to read and understand ingredient lists and nutrition panels. 01.01.2022 This week Toddler 1 explored their sense of smell by mixing spices into white paint. We used cinnamon, sweet paprika and turmeric and each of the spices turned the paint a different colour! The end result looked amazing and made the room smell incredible!

01.01.2022 We’re excited to kick off nutrition week with this easy recipe for healthy Mac ‘n’ Cheese cupcakes by our nutrition partner Wholesome Child.
