25.01.2022 We need these voices to become louder in our society to protect our most vulnerable members. The majority of support workers are absolute gems and work incredibly hard, but as with anything there is always a few who ruin it for the rest. Will you be a voice?
24.01.2022 Check out this fun new program to build Skills for Life! Aimed at children under 7, through gymnastic-based activities your child will be assisted to develop mo...vement, balance, strength communication, and social skills. Kudos to YMCA Gymnastics Seaford, Flinders University and the team of exercise scientists and developmental educators for putting together this great inclusive program.

16.01.2022 Spring symbolises new beginnings.... so it's an excellent time to launch Journey Care - Support Coordination Service. We hope that this new venture can reach into the Adelaide Hills and Eastern suburbs communities to help those on the Journey who need a little extra heart, a little extra direction and a peace of mind to know you are not doing it alone. If you have a child that is not reaching their milestones or has recently had a diagnosis that you are grappling with, please connect with us to see if we can provide support. Our support can come in various forms, connecting you to disability supports, therapists, in home supports like cleaners, gardeners. The list is endless and the only limitation is our imagination. We can't wait to start the journey with you!
15.01.2022 You are working super hard right?! You probably don’t even know how hard you are working because you are just doing what needs to be done. Engaging a good support coordinator can ease some of the load. The support coordinator role is designed to be a capacity building role.... what that means is that we help develop your skills to manage the complexities of your situation.... it may be going through your service agreements with providers to ensure you are happy with them, ...or helping you to find efficient and timely ways to record keep all the NDIS administrivia, or helping you to network with families in similar situations.... the list is endless. SC is designed to assist, not for you to feel like you are failing. How does the proverb go.... Many hands make light work? #journeycaresupportcoordinationwith #journeycaresupportcoordinationwithheart #journeycare #supportcoordination #supportcoordinationadelaidehills #supportcoordinationadelaide #ndissupportcoordination #ndis #childdevelopment #disability #globaldevelopmentaldelay #familygoals #childrengoals See more
14.01.2022 Even clients well down the road of an NDIS Journey do not understand what Support Coordination is...... (and do not feel bad about this.... we are often not told about services and left in the dark to find out for ourselves) Here is the NDIS definition.......... The NDIS describes Support Coordination as supporting participants to direct their lives, not just their services. This may include resolving points of crisis and developing resilience in the Participant's network. ...Often included is supporting people to connect with service providers, and also crucially includes exploring non-NDIS supports, navigating mainstream services and building capacity to coordinate all formal and informal supports to live "an ordinary life". Yeah it's a lot isn't it....... so let's do it together.........
14.01.2022 Our siblings are just as important as our special ones. We are so lucky to have Siblings Australia right here in SA and doing wonderful things, and on the cusp of doing even more wonderful things.... now is the time to have your say! Are you a sib? Or a parentsib? Either way your ideas and thoughts are important to improve the plight of our precious sibs!
13.01.2022 The disability sector and the parenting journey can be filled with very strong opinions about a range of topics. It can be quite overwhelming at times. It is important for us all to remember that our journey is unique... we may have empathy but we cannot truly understand another’s situation. It is also important to remember that the grief cycle is very real for many people whose path hasn’t panned out as they have expected. We dip in and out of that grief cycle and at times have capacity for anything, and others absolutely nothing. Recognising those cycles and accepting it can be very healing. We don’t have to be warriors all of the time, we need to recharge. Be kind to yourself, be kind to others.... it’s that simple. #bekind #uniquepaths #uniquejourney #griefcycle #disability #disabilityjourney

12.01.2022 Carers SA is a fabulous resource for many different reasons. If you haven’t registered yet it would be worth doing it (even if you don’t need their service now, something may change down the track causing you to need them.... needing emergency respite for example). Their model and funding has changed so if you were registered years ago, it would be worth touching base with them so that your client file is up to date with them. Lovely people who really care about the carers......

09.01.2022 Plan managedAgency Managed Self Managed It can be a minefield to know how to manage your NDIS Plan. Especially if it’s your first plan or you are coming up for Plan Renewal and are confused about your options. The choice is a very personal one, so you need to think about many variables: 1) how much choice and control you want? (Maximum choice and control and value for money choose Self Managed ) 2) How much time do you have? If time is super precious and you want a ...good degree of choice but don’t want more work choose Plan Managed Agency managed is the final option and gives you very little control but is the least work (This is an extremely simplified analogy for the sake of this platform, you need to do detailed research into your options to see what is right for you and your family)...... good luck with your decision making! We are hear to help when making these big decisions that impact your life. # JourneyCare #journeycaresupportcoordinationwith #journeycaresupportcoordinationwithheart #journeycare #supportcoordination #supportcoordinationadelaidehills #supportcoordinationadelaide #ndissupportcoordination #ndis #childdevelopment #disability #globaldevelopmentaldelay #familygoals #childrengoals #choiceandcontrol #navigatingthendis #ndisgoals #ndisplanrenewal #ndisfirstplan

08.01.2022 These are worrying times in SA for many. Please go to www.sahealth.sa.gov.au for updates and links to all kinds of support services. Stay safe SA and together we will get through this
06.01.2022 This situation is every parent’s worst nightmare. We must learn from this and have open circles of support for our special people, in all the various settings. A TEAM of supports is critical so that there can never be complacency and there is accountability on each of the providers. Journey Care are an INDEPENDENT provider so we are aware of using a range of providers (This means we are free from bias other than the bias of hearing great things about providers in our community!) The take away message from this situation is to set your loved ones up with a team of supports... at whatever level that may be. We want lots of eyes and ears when trusting people with our more vulnerable members of the community. We MUST look after those who can’t always look after themselves. https://indaily.com.au//police-raid-disability-agency-ove/
05.01.2022 If you are in Australia and your child has a phone you MUST get this app downloaded. The Emergency+ app now has 'what3words' helping communicate caller's locati...on by just saying 3 words provided in bottom-left of screen. Accurate as a GPS co-ordinate but easier to say. Most teens have no idea where they are and this can save their lives or the lives of others. This App is Australian and is suitable for any phone. The good thing is that you don't need to know where you are - a particular issue with kids that might be out and about. You just tell the 000 operator the 3 words on the bottom left of the screen and they will know where you are.
05.01.2022 Mental health is a hot topic now, more than ever before due to COVID 19. Add in the challenges of having a family member with additional needs and it’s been quite the year. This may be a useful starting point to put yourself back on the map in terms of your mental health. Please reach out if you are struggling in this area... there are more readily available resources now than there ever has been. Email [email protected] and I will email you some resources no questions asked...... xx
05.01.2022 Have you fallen in a hole? Chances are you don’t even realise it. You just keep doing what you need to do don’t you? Or you freeze the activity that is required because you just need a break from it. It’s a roller coaster of activity and then apathy when you’re feeling overwhelmed. We understand, we are parents too and have lived a similar reality. It might be time for you to contact your support coordinator to outsource some of these tasks... or gain insight into new opport...unities. If you don’t have a SC yet, if you have funding pretty much anywhere and need one... new flexible rules from NDIA means you can pay out of Core Supports if you need to. Don’t fall in a hole alone.... let Journey Care and others assist you. 03.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the amazing dads out there! Being a father is hard work.... or rather.... being a good father is hard work! Trying to strike a balance between all the things you value.... quality time with kids and family whilst generating an income to give them the best or put food on the table... not to mention the mundane day to day jobs that always need doing. Striking a balance can be tough...... then you add in an extra layer of being a Special dad.... and ...trying to get it right for each of your kids and their different needs. Fathers Day can be confronting for all kinds of reasons. You may not be able to do the typical things your mates are doing because one of your tribe wouldn’t cope. 02.01.2022 We can become fixated on the end goal, but if there’s one thing that we’ve learnt, it’s to go with the process and look at what the needs are NOW (with a sneaky eye to the future). Sometimes we need support on our journey; that can be family, friends or professionals. Make sure you surround yourself with the right people on your journey.....
02.01.2022 The great news is that the NDIS are working towards using funded supports much more flexibly. Therefore you can now use Core Supports to engage a Support Coordinator even if it is not written in the plan. Previously it was a stated support. So check your plan... if it’s already funded, great! If it’s not and you need one and you have a healthy core budget... use that! You can also use the Capacity Building bucket. At Journey Care we provide service to private paying clients..., and NDIS clients who are are self or plan managed. If all this terminology is making your head spin then email us for clarification. No question is a silly one!
