25.01.2022 Announcing a third wave of support measures to keep small businesses afloat, the NSW government said it is providing $10,000 grants to thousands of businesses struggling to cope across the state. The NSW government will put $750 million into the Small Business Support Fund as the centrepiece of a third wave of support measures to keep small businesses afloat. Under the latest program, eligible small businesses will be invited to apply for a grant of up to $10,000 through Serv...ice NSW within a fortnight. The program, to remain open until 1 June 2020, is specifically catered for businesses with up to 19 employees to help them meet unavoidable business costs such as utilities, overheads, legal costs and financial advice. This is about getting cash into small businesses when they are struggling right now in the face of an unprecedented situation, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said. Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the fund was designed to provide help fast and would benefit tens of thousands of businesses across NSW. Many local cafs, restaurants, corner shops, gyms and small accommodation providers will be eligible to apply, Mr Perrottet said. We have the structures in place after the bushfires and expect to see this money rolling out the door shortly. This is real, rapid relief for tens of thousands of businesses and it will help ensure many businesses that are not eligible for payroll tax waivers and deferrals can live to trade another day.

23.01.2022 The NSW state government has announced a new round of grants, handing out $3,000 to thousands of small businesses reopening across the state after the COVID-19 shutdown.

17.01.2022 The Morrison government has announced a third stimulus package designed to keep Australians in work as businesses struggle to mitigate costs following the coronavirus outbreak. The unprecedented package, worth $130 billion, aims to prevent firms from laying off employees in order to ensure the economy bounces back once the threat of the coronavirus has passed. Businesses of all sizes will be eligible, while workers will need to have been employed by the business for more ...than 12 months to receive the payment. The payments will start in the first week of May and be backdated to March. We want to keep the engine of our economy running during this crisis, Prime Minister Scott Morrison told media. But the question remains of whether the lay-offs this part of the package seeks to avoid have already happened, with long lines for Centrelink support dominating the news last week amidst reports that a million people are already out of work. We are working now to a whole new set of rules, Prime Minister Morrison said, warning that some countries could see both their societies and economies collapse. The latest package follows the first stimulus package worth $17 billion, which was aimed at retirees and the unemployed and a second $66 billion package designed to keep small businesses afloat as well as those who lost their job. The Prime Minister announced this partner income threshold has been extended to $79,762 per annum, which was previously capped at $48,000. Morrison said, however, that Australians will not be eligible for both the JobKeeper and the JobSeeker Payments. I would note, though, that many of those partners who are seeking those payment will obviously now in very many cases be covered by this job to the payment by remaining attached to their employers, he said. Unlike the first two stimulus packages, the third will help New Zealanders living in Australia on a 444 visa. New Zealanders on 444 visas dont get access to the welfare system, but they can get access to this JobKeeper Payment, Mr Morrison concluded.

16.01.2022 The Federal Government has announced the following stimulus package. The package has four parts: 1. Delivering support for business investment: increase the instant asset write off threshold from $30,000 to $150,000 and expand access to include businesses with aggregated annual turnover of less than $500 million (up from $50 million) until 30 June 2020 providing a time limited 15 month investment incentive (through to 30 June 2021) to support business investment and econo...mic growth over the short term, by accelerating depreciation deductions. Businesses with a turnover of less than $500 million will be able to deduct an additional 50 per cent of the asset cost in the year of purchase. These measures start today and will support over 3.5 million businesses (over 99 per cent of businesses) employing more than 9.7 million employees or 3 in every 4 workers. The measures are designed to support business sticking with investment they had planned, and encouraging them to bring investment forward to support economic growth over the short term 2. Cash flow assistance for businesses: businesses with a turnover of less than $50 million that employ staff, between 1 January 2020 and 30 June 2020 will be able to receive a payment from $2,000 up to $25,000. The payment will be tax free and businesses will receive payments of 50 per cent of their Business Activity Statements or Instalment Activity Statement from 28 April with refunds to then be paid within 14 days. eligible employers can apply for a wage subsidy of 50 per cent of the apprentices or trainees wage for up to 9 months from 1 January 2020 to 30 September 2020. Where a small business is not able to retain an apprentice, the subsidy will be available to a new employer that employs that apprentice. 3. Stimulus payments to households to support growth: provide a one-off $750 stimulus payment to pensioners, social security, veteran and other income support recipients and eligible concession card holders. 4. Assistance for severely-affected regions: $1 billion to support those sectors, regions and communities that have been disproportionately affected by the economic impacts of the Coronavirus, including those heavily reliant on industries such as tourism, agriculture and education. Please call our office for further information.

07.01.2022 The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has now issued preliminary guidance on the extension of the JobKeeper stimulus measure to 28 March 2021, following its passage through Parliament on 1 September. According to the guidance, businesses already enrolled in JobKeeper will not need to re-enrol nor will they need to reassess employee eligibility or ask employees to agree to be nominated, but they will need to determine if they satisfy the actual fall in turnover test for the two extension periods 28 September 2020 to 3 January 2021, and 4 January 2021 to 28 March 2021.

05.01.2022 Decline in Turnover Test The new actual GST decline in turnover test only applies with respect to the six-month extension of JKP (i.e., JobKeeper 2.0) and is broken up into two separate extension periods, as follows: a) Extension Period 1- applies to JobKeeper fortnights that start on or after 28 September 2020 and end on or before 3 January 2021. The additional test will be satisfied where the entity’s actual GST turnover has declined by the required percentage (i.e., either... 30% or 50%) for the quarter ending 30 September 2020, relative to its September 2019 quarter. b) Extension Period 2- applies to JobKeeper fortnights that start on or after 4 January 2021 and end on or before 28 March 2021. The additional test will be satisfied where the entity’s actual GST turnover has declined by the required percentage (i.e., either 30% or 50%) for the quarter ending 31 December 2020, relative to its December 2019 quarter.
