People interested in Shakira would need to meet her a few times to get to know her, as she has always been like this according to her previous family. She would need a home without dogs, cats and children, with a secure yard and with people who lead a relatively quiet life, without lots of visitors to the home. 25.01.2022 *Update on Russell Russell aged 13 came to us after his family decided they could no longer take care of his needs. Since staying with us at the kennels we discovered he is diabetic and needs twice daily insulin shots which isn't really possible in our kennel environment. So we put the call out for permanent Foster Care. ... Yesterday, this dear little guy, full of life and happiness, went off with Owen to a pampered and well maintained life with acres to potter in and other seniors to rest in the sun with. After staying with volunteers in the interim, it is clear he is an easy going little dog who just takes all the changes in his stride, loves all people, other dogs and cats and is otherwise healthy, bright and full of mischief. We know he will have a great life with Owen and the family who are experienced carers of senior dogs and we can't thank you enough, for once again taking one of our seniors. Also thanks to our volunteers for taking him into their homes and for everyone who has helped with his care....he has definately worked his way into our souls "Hi Jill. 23.01.2022 An Adoption UPDATE from dear senior boy Jacky who found love again in January, after his former owners passing. We are so very sorry to hear of his troubles but thank you for taking care of him, and hope that now he is feeling better and can enjoy being in the comfort of your care. Lots of love from us! An update on the lovely older gentleman we adopted in January this year. He settled in well and was very happy. We knew he had cataracts but our previous JR had them as well and they never progressed very far. However, by October he had become blind and had turned into a timid, quite frightened, dog. Anyway, he is back home now after cataract surgery (which went very well) and is much happier (though not too fond of the recovery collar).

23.01.2022 "EDDY"- On Hold! R251000050 Eddy is a smooth coat Male JR aged 5yrs. He has come to us from a pound, where he was not reclaimed and is now looking for a new home... Eddy hasnt been taken care of particularly well in his past and is missing some fur possibly from flea allergy which is improving, since being in our care. He is much happier now that he no longer itches constantly and isnt concentrating on scratching He is a friendly little dog, who greets everyone with excitement and a little dance. He is no problem to bath and allows us to treat him, although at first he didnt like his tail being touched, most likely because of the sensitivity to the itchiness. Eddy is most suited to a family who are going to spend time with him and lavish him with love and the attention he deserves. Best suited to kids/grandkids aged over 12 years. 17.01.2022 *UPDATE on little Ruby. Ruby is now staying with one of our volunteers so her medication can be monitored. She has the run of the house, helps feed the horses and so far is getting along with the other dogs and cats. She will be back to the vet in 2wks for review. Our volunteers are the best. Thank you for taking Ruby into your home and keeping an eye on her

17.01.2022 Mark has been volunteering with us for a little while, as he is doing his Companion Animal Services Certificate at Tafe. He has been giving Flashie time to get used to him, as Flash is afraid of men, by firstly ignoring the barking, not making eye contact and just talking to him as he goes by doing his work. Then offering treats in a non threatening side position, through the fencing, most times randomly as he goes past Flashie in his run.... And lastly, now being able to ask Flash to sit and take a treat. This has all been over many weeks. It's a fantastic accomplishment for both Mark and Flash. It shows Flash is able to set his fears aside for someone who will take the time to help him. It shows Mark has the patience to work with the more difficult dogs and we thank him for that, because in this line of work, there are many different dogs with many different needs. Some take longer to trust than others. Some just need more time. Way to go Mark and Flashie!! A perfect example of kindness for World Kindness Day! There must be someone out there who is willing to give Flash a chance

15.01.2022 "FINN"- AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION R251000050 Finn is a young male tan and white smooth coat JR aged 5 mths He has come to us as he was too much for the kids in the family and is now looking for a new home. ... He is a handsome and sweet pup, he knows to sit politely for a treat and loves to chase around with the ball in sheer delight. Being a pup, he is doing all the puppy things, chewing, mouthing, jumping and grabbing ankles so he needs a new family prepared to guide and train him, with kids aged above 8 yrs or who have owned dogs previously and are not going to be afraid of mouthing and jumping while he learns. He travels well in the car and is used to living both indoors and outdoors. He will need a family where someone is home most of the time to guide him and give him the stimulation and enrichment needed with a secure yard. He is not suited to apartments or being left on his own for long periods and hasnt lived with other dogs or cats previously. 15.01.2022 This week's update from Hall as he settles into his new life Hi Jill, Hope you are doing well. Thought I would share an update on Hall.... On Tuesday we where quite worried as he was yelping a lot, so we took him for a second vet visit where they did an xray, just to check if he didn't have any fractures, he had none. He also had a more thorough physical from the vet, but they couldn't locate anything specific. He was very polite at the vet and they where very comfortable handling him. Since Tuesday he has improved a lot. He doesn't seem to yelp any more and has become a lot more relaxed. He settles easily in the evening for bed and he has had good appetite in the mornings for eating. After the first day we haven't had any behavioural issues with him. He seems very comfortable with us. We have carefully reintroduced the couch. He is allowed to join us on it, but not sit on it by himself. This seems to work really well and he loves to curl up next to us. We have also noticed he has a strange fascination for ikea bags. There is an abundance of pillows and fleece blankets around the house to choose from, but at least once every day the ikea bag wins. He also made is first walk in our street, which he seemed to really enjoy sniffing and marking everything. Up until now we have kept him at home, but now his leg is going better he seems to have a lot of energy and doesn't know what to do with himself. I am looking forward to taking him on longer walks once he has recovered a bit more. I think that will do him well and relax him further at home. Overall it is going really well, much better then we actually expected as we thought his behavioural issues would take longer solve and he would be more stressed. But so far it seems to go really well. Obviously it is still early days and things can still develop in all directions, but we are very happy with where it is now. Kind regards, Jeroen

15.01.2022 So sad to hear of the passing of Poppy, who came to JRR as a pair with Tommy (Drommy) Both together now over rainbow bridge bit leaving behind JR also of JRR who stepped on to help the healing after Tommy's loss. Thank you to Janet and Peter for loving them both and being there for them till the end. ... Thankyou for taking on senior dogs knowing the time may be shorter than most. Love to you all, JR, Louie and the rest of the family. Forever Cherished It’s sad news I have to pass on today, our hearts are broken, Poppy passed away very peacefully in our arms, Sunday afternoon. She had been struggling for a while and her dosage of painkillers was steadily rising. She was no longer able to play with her mates and was sleeping most of the day. We did our best. She hopefully has hooked back up with Tommy (Drommy). JR is fine, and Louie the Dashie is missing his stand in Mum. Thank you JRR for giving us the opportunity to look after our senior adoptees.

13.01.2022 A happy Adoption UPDATE from Bella previously of JRR. Its always great to know they are happy and loved in their forever homes year on, we love receiving the updates and seeing them happy. 13.01.2022 "MR JACK"- AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION R251000050 *NOT FOR INTERSTATE ADOPTION *NO CATS/DOGS *NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN... Mr Jack is a rough coat JR/Shih Tzu mix aged 9 yrs. He has come to us as his owner had moved out and left him with her partner who can no longer care for him. He is used to living indoors in his previous home, can be shy with men and doesnt like to be towel dried after a bath. He also feels the heat quite quickly and makes a snuffly sound due to his short muzzle. He is friendly with our volunteers, enjoyed his walk and investigating his surroundings, and loves squeaky toys. He can be a little guarded at first with his belongings and doesnt like people in his space. He needs to be given the time to approach you, as all the changes in his life have made him unsure of what is required of him. 13.01.2022 An Update from Hank. He came to us after his owner had passed away and was unfortunately quite over weight and very much missing his dad. Now he has a new family and is losing some of those extra kilos which is so good to see. Thank you for loving Hank and keeping is. updated. So good to see him happy again Just letting you know Hank is settling in really well. He is on a special diet and has already lost nearly 2kgs. He is going on lots of lovely walks and getting to know his neighbours. Thank you for bringing Hank into our family.

12.01.2022 Flashie is wondering if everyone has forgotten about him, he sees all the little ones come and go, but no one comes for him. He is a big Love bug when he gets ...to know you. His initial shyness does put people off and we know he is a strong boy, but he would love a lady owner all of his own. You can see he loves our volunteers and the security of his kennel, but Flashie really would love a quiet and patient home all of his very own. He has lots of love to share with his person! <3 "FLASHIE"- AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION R251000050 *NOT FOR INTERSTATE ADOPTION *NO OTHER DOGS *FRIGHTENED OF MEN *NOT SUITED TO APARTMENT LIVING Flashie is a taller, smooth coat boy, of a mixed breed aged 6yrs. When first arriving he was very timid and unsure of the kennel environment but gradually we have been able to help him smile. He is much larger in size than your usual JR and is very strong and solid. He knows to sit politely and is working on his lead manners. He is eager to please and have the comfort of people he trusts but is nervous of men and other dogs currently. He will make a great companion for fit, older family/couple or person without young kids who may be too overwhelming for him. He will need a family with people who have someone at home most of the time. Flashie is not tolerant/ has not been continually socialised with, or is fearful of other dogs and needs a home without other dogs, including dogs that may visit. It also means he needs to be leashed at all times when out and about and isn't suitable to off leash dog parks or playing with other dogs. This is not an unusual characterisitc in the JR breed. 12.01.2022 Two little senior dogs both with medical issues left behind by their families for someone else to deal with. Its not always easy for us to deal with either, aging homeless dogs deserve better after a lifetime of love and loyalty. Thank goodness for the love of Jill and our volunteers who keep taking them in and giving them the best quality of life we can to see their days. ... These two seniors, Ruby and Russell have created a little friendship, and are both staying with one of our volunteers. Thank you for taking them into your home and keeping an eye on them

12.01.2022 We would like to Thank Paw by Blackmores for their generous donation of shampoo and conditioner for Suzies (aged 13) skin. We purchased their product to try and they have donated more for future use which we are very grateful for. Suzie came to us with terrible skin, from lack of care and she is recovering slowly as these pictures show. But it will be an on going problem for her which needs continual vet support, medication and diet control as well as the 3 x weekly medicated baths she has with these Paw by Blackmores products. Highly recommended by both us at JRR and our Vet. Check out their product range, like Facebook page and social media accounts <3

11.01.2022 It's already 37 degrees here in Londonderry, and it's not even midday yet. If you are coming for appts today be sure to bring a hat, sunscreen and a drink with you. We have one shadier run to show the dogs in so there may be a little waiting. We will do our best to limit that.... All our dogs have pools and sprinklers will be on to keep heat off the concrete. Thank you so much to Pete for sorting this out for all of us. Thank you to our volunteers this weekend who are keeping an eye on things

09.01.2022 There is something special about senior dogs, their resilience and desire to be loved and give love is special and reserved for special people. We are so grateful to those who either adopt senior dogs, or take them into their home as a carer knowing time might be short but recognising the warmth and love in that time, is irreplaceable and so very rewarding. Thank you for taking such good care of Samantha <3... Samantha had a visit this week to the vet with some CV symptoms, she has been issued with long and short term medicine and has once again shown her resilience and is perky and back to her normal self. She had a visit today from our friend Lisa at Aussie Pooch dog wash and had a pampering this morning and is looking and smelling the part. Kade - hospice carer

06.01.2022 It's going to be a hot weekend here! Please, we don't want to see people out walking their dogs in the heat, If you must, early mornings and late evenings only. Don't leave your best mate in the car, for any reason. If you can bring them inside, please do..and let them rest.... Our kennels are hot, but we have sprinklers and play pools to keep the heat off the concrete a little, and our ever vigilant volunteers to keep an eye on things.

Thanks for adopting Eddie and giving him a lifetime of love with you Hi Jill,... Its nearly four years since we met Eddie (previously Brock) at Jack Russell Rescue - it was love at first sight!!. He has brought us so much happiness and we love all his great and funny characteristics. Eddies a very happy boy with lots of doggie friends for walks and fun times. 04.01.2022 Dear sweet, 13yr old Russell has come into our care as his family can no longer take care of him. Russell has diabetes and requires daily insulin shots which we have just discovered. We are also pretty certain he has Cushings as well which will also require medication and a low fat high protein diet.... He is a happy and friendly boy who is getting along with the dogs and cats at our volunteers home temporarily however he will need a permanent fospice carer where his medications can be monitored and he can be showered in warmth and love. His vet costs and medication will be covered by us, as well as our continued support. It is probably best if you are at home most of the time and live nearby or are prepared to travel to Vineyard Vet for the occasional vet follow up. Russell travels well in a crate and is no trouble to give his medications. If you think this is something you can manage, please give Jill a call on 0408491542.

She came to us when her family had to move back overseas and couldnt take Missy with them. Now she has a new family and a new happy life and lots of love Thank you for adopting a senior dog

01.01.2022 "BONNIE AND CLYDE"- AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION R251000050 Bonnie and Clyde are a sweet pair of smooth coat seniors JR mixes aged 11yrs Bonnie is the female, mainly white and Clyde the male is Tan/white with more markings. ... They have come to us from another shelter and are now looking for a new home together as they are a bonded pair. They both have such sweet, happy personalities, and know to sit for a treat which they take politely. They are healthy and active and Bonnie loves to play with squeaky toys while Clyde watches on. As with any pair, care needs to be taken when feeding to make sure there are no squabbles however we have seen no evidence of this since being in our care. Bonnie and Clyde are suited to a home together, with a family looking to adopt older dogs and give them a happy life. Probably best suited to kids/grandkids aged above 8 years.
