17.01.2022 What a beautiful question

15.01.2022 Everyone learns differently and has strengths and weaknesses... if schools celebrated success in Art / Music/ Acting / Kindness or so many other domains of learning/ life, as the most valuable part of the curriculum, children like Benjamin would be celebrated at school. Imagine a NAPLAN where students were asked to duplicate this activity ... an incredibly complex task which involves visual spatial awareness, problem solving, resilience and no doubt many other hidden aca...demic skills which I cant even identify as I cant solve a rubics cube.... what would the results look like. Its easy to assess a narrow domain of literacy and numeracy in the current system. Its easy to devise this kind of curriculum. Its easy to create a yardstick upon which everyone and every school can be judged. It certainly isnt an easy system for many students to survive in for 13 years of their early life. The most important years for developing a sense of self and what is important. Is this Industrial Revolution designed school system, which has barely changed in its form and design in 250 years, still the same narrow system which we want to continue. Is what we are currently teaching and testing really predictors of future success? Just think about these students who failed school ; Richard Branson, Dick Smith, Charles Darwin, Thomas Edison, Henry Winkler, Houdini and of course Albert Einstein. Im not suggesting the teaching of the 3 Rs is not important, it absolutely is, however some students need to be taught differently to achieve success in these areas. Currently our schools struggle to provide the programs and time which would support these students to be successful, due to the current funding models. Schools also need the opportunity to allow for appropriate adjustments to allow ALL children to access the current curriculum (e.g. text to speech and speech to text technology). This is NOT an opportunity to finger point as I truly believe everyone is trying to do the right thing. However, for the kind of change I, and I believe many others, feel is needed, we need to start letting everyone (government, schools.... the change makers) know that it is now time to start changing our school system.

15.01.2022 Sometimes it just takes the smallest rethink to make a world of difference in a world of beautiful differences

13.01.2022 Worth considering creating a cosy book corner in the home, in which parents and children can share some relaxing reading time

11.01.2022 Often parents struggle to find the time to do regular reading and the extra work that struggling learners need..... perhaps reaching out to a grandparent or older relatives/ friends, maybe the answer. Many families use FaceTime and Skype to catch up with these special people, so why not ask them if theyd like to listen to your child read or help them with some homework. This might be an opportunity to help build a deeper relationship and support a struggling learner. If you need some help setting this up, please feel free to contact me

10.01.2022 Its that time of year! Time for academic and sporting awards etc. But here is a massive shout out to the kids that didnt receive any awards, but they turned up - even though turning up is hard! We see you!

09.01.2022 This is a brilliant message to be teaching our Brisbane Kids! I absolutely love it! At the end of the day, Id rather be excluded for who I include, than be included for who I exclude Via https://www.facebook.com/431946943566996/posts/2541028565992146?d=n&sfns=mo
