They worked as a team over the last year to have Sandras unique designs placed on the exterior walls of the new Police Station. Fabrication and install by Artcom Fabrication Design Group. Sandra Hill, Nyoongar visual artist and Balingup Elder, and Jenny Dawson (J Shed Art Studio, Unit 3) have been working on a collaboration for a public artwork at the newly completed Capel Police Station. This is Sandra latest collaboration of man...y with Fremantles J Shed Art studio team of Jenny Dawson and Peter Zuvela - Photography. The work depicts the Nyoongar presence in the area pre-colonisation. Drawings are by Sandra Hill. It is the first time a police station in WA has the Nyoongar name for the region, Coolingup featured in the design. The work was installed this week and the station will be formally opened in late October. The artists were greeted by police officers eager to view their new artworks as they were installed (fabrication and intstall by local Fremantle business Artcom Fabrication Design Group). The World War Two encounter between HMAS Sydney (II) and the disguised German raider HSK Kormoran off the Western Australian coast stands as Australias most tragic naval disaster. For more than 66 years, the location of the two ships remained a mystery. Then, in 2008, the Finding Sydney Foundation and shipwreck... expert David Mearns found the wrecks off Shark Bay. This exhibition showcases remarkable images and footage captured during the expedition and personal reflections from descendants and family members of Sydneys crew. Entry to this exhibition is free. Strictly speaking it will be the second incarnation of the bronze beauty: Bella 2.0, after the original 150 kilogram statue was stolen in the early hours of October 9th 2019. Earlier this month a 41-year-old Fremantle man was jailed for nine months for her theft, but Bella was never found. 14.01.2022 Fremantle Herald: BREWERY FIRST STEP TO QUAY REVAMP Gage Roads Brewing Co plans for their new Victoria Quay microbrewery and eatery. A NEW microbrewery, tavern and restaurant at Victoria Quay will kick off the heritage precincts long-awaited redevelopment, helping transform it into Perths Darling Harbour, premier Mark McGowan has promised.... Mr McGowan joined ports minister Alannah MacTiernan, transport minister Rita Saffioti MLA and local MLA Simone McGurk at A-Shed on Tuesday morning to announce brewer Gage Roads had been offered a 40-year lease of the 100-year-old building. To have Victoria Quay essentially as a dead zone is not the right use for it. Weve got to have life and activity here; thats what other cities around the world do, thats what other cities around Australia do, Mr McGowan said. The Gage Roads plan will see the heritage-listed goods shed transformed into a working micro-brewery, eatery, alfresco area, bar and cafe. In a challenging economic period, this is a major demonstration of confidence by a key player in the WA hospitality industry, that will generate jobs in both the construction and operational phases. Ms MacTiernan said she couldnt be happier the Palmyra-based brewer had won the tender for the shed. Their heart is here in Fremantle and one of the things that made this especially good is that they have agreed to showcase beers and food from around WA, so this iconic spot here in Fremantle is really serving the state. Gage Roads chief operating officer Aaron Heary said a public venue had been a long-term goal. For 15 years weve been brewing beers just over the hill in Palmyra on the outskirts of Fremantle and for 15 years weve had a dream and a lot of people have asked me when is Gage Roads going to be open to the public. Mr Heary said the micro-brewery was expected to open in 12 months as an innovation centre for the company pushing out limited release specialty beers, and the hospitality venue would aim to create a family-friendly atmosphere. He says its a bit of a home-coming for the company, which is named after the stretch of water outside the harbours heads. Ingrid writes about her course: "Our first field exercise is to study Arthur Head Reserve as a cultural landscape. We look at the cultural values embodied in the place, both tangible (landforms, structures, objects) and intangible (stories, interpretations, associations, traditions and uses). We also look at the threats to the cultural ...value of the place including from inappropriate development. At J-shed we consider the problems for the cultural landscape of Arthur Head Reserve associated with proposals for change of use and development as a tavern. I have already given the considered opinion that the current cultural value of J-shed is more in the ongoing long standing use as Fremantle artists working studios, than in the structure itself, that the use is now a cultural asset to the place, particularly as an open house welcoming interested public like ourselves. These earrings are made utilising the silver discs left over from my Chain Link Earrings. Each disk has been hand drilled with pictures or shapes and held together with fine, flame beaded wire for articulation ~ they almost slither ... The nature of this process means that each pair is totally unique.
