25.01.2022 I know what I need to do, so why can’t I stick to it? - Behaviour change is hard! Simply KNOWING doesnt immmediatly correlate with DOING. - Even though I KNOW a lot about nutrition and exercise, does that mean I never overeat? Get stressed out? Forget to implement self care? Run out of time? Drive through the drive through? HELL NO! ... - Everyone relapses! Is it failure? NO! - It is completely normal and there are things that we can do to help: - Be specific and clear with your goals, make sure you know your WHY. - Reflect on what's going on for you right now and use it as feedback to navigate similar situations in the future. - Get support from a coach or friend who can support you, encourage you and be your cheer squad in maintaining forward motion. - Block out time for the things that move you towards your goals and prioritise these consistently, creating your own personalised routine. - Know your actionable steps that are going to get you to your goal, map it out, break it down and celebrate your wins along the way!! - NO ONE is perfect, it is not about perfection! Eliminating 'perfection' from your vocabulary when working towards your health and fitness goals enables you to see its not 'all' or 'nothing', you are not 'on' or 'off', it is a 'LIFE DIAL' that you can turn up and down depending on what you are ready, willing and able to do TODAY! - #jshnutrition @precisionnutrition See more

25.01.2022 Are you making time for SELF CARE AND RECOVERY? - Did you know that stress can have a HUGE impact on your health and fitness goals? - Sleep, rest and recovery is critical! We are all very busy and just as we make time for our Nutrition and Training, we also need to make time for our sleep and recovery. ... - RECOVER AS HARD AS YOU TRAIN! - It can be challenging to find the time! BUT there are strategies you can employ: - RELAXATION is part of recovery, doing something fun, some active recovery, spending time with loved ones and doing something just for yourself. - STRESS MANAGEMENT and working on trying to manage your emotions, having some stress management strategies in place to help you get the most out of your training and nutrition while creating enjoyment and balance in life. - PLANNED REST and having days that you don’t train, chill and relax, time to recover and improve and also to maintain enjoyment about exercise, something to look forward to, not something you dread having to do every day. - NUTRITION gives us energy and provides the body with the nutrients that it needs to go about your busy life and get the most out of your training. - When we work hard over time, results accumulate.... Sometimes the magic happens when you are resting! - #jshnutrition See more

21.01.2022 What's this Nutrition Coaching thing all about and how can you benefit? - Have you heard that phrase that 'you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with?' - This is so true and there are many examples of friends, athletes, business people etc who surround themselves with people who are working towards similar priorities. Of course, they don't all do exactly the same things as they are all different, but being in an atmosphere of success helps bring you up... to new levels. - Being with like-minded people can help you achieve your goals! - Who do you share your wins and challenges with? - You can choose to surround yourself with high achievers and put yourself in a position to raise your own bar and achieve things you never thought were possible! - At JSHN we identify your limiting beliefs and work out what is holding you back to enable you to begin working on building self-belief around what you are capable of. We encourage, support, teach, promote risk taking and you are held accountable by being part of a community. - We provide ongoing support throughout your journey enabling you to consistently move towards your goals, being the best version of YOU. - #jshnutrition See more

15.01.2022 DECISION FATIGUE - We face hundreds of decisions every day - from what to eat for lunch to more complicated emotional, financial and physical wellbeing decisions. - Regardless of how strong you are, your ability to make the best choices can eventually run out due to decision fatigue.... - Decision fatigue is the emotional and mental strain resulting from a burden of choices. - This plays a huge role in our behaviours - when mental energy runs low - you become less able to override basic desires and more likely to go for whatever is easiest! You may find yourself acting impulsive, avoiding things or procrastinating. - One of the things I work on with my clients is creating systems that allow them to consciously direct their thoughts and actions and that ultimately reduce down daily decision making. - Top tips: Time blocking Bedtime ritual Creating daily intentions Habit stacking Routines and organisation in practice Meal planning Meal prep and organisation Using checklists, whiteboards and planners - Set up each day so that you have to make the FEWEST decisions possible! - #jshnutrition See more

14.01.2022 Why do we need to set goals? - Have you ever written down your big picture goals and then just carried on with your life waiting for them to happen? It’s okay, lots of people do! - Goals give you direction and focus, they provide you with something to aim for and can be utilised to get you to where you want to be in life. BUT you have to do more than just write them down. It is important to break these big goals down, delve deep into why they are important to you and to giv...e you a clear path from point A to point B. - This involves asking yourself alot of questions: Why is this important to you? What will be the benefits of achieving this goal? What will my life look like when I achieve this goal? What are the consequences of not achieving this goal? What will my life look like in 6 months time if I take action now? What will my life look like in 6 months time if I take no action? - As you can see there is alot to reflect on. Taking the time to answer all these questions gives your goals purpose and meaning and when you know your WHY the HOW becomes alot easier! - The HOW involves the small actionable steps you will take each day and each week that will move you towards your goal. This involves putting consistent systems in place to build effective habits. - The secret to success is found in your daily routine! Setting goals effectively will stretch you beyond your comfort zone, so you venture into new places and situations that'll help you grow and tap into your true potential! - @the_routine.co has an excellent goal setting journal to help get you started! - Use the code JSHNUTRITION for 10% off - #jshnutrition See more

12.01.2022 Do you exercise to earn your food or to make up for a big meal out? - Did you know you can lose weight without even exercising at all? NOW I'm absolutely NOT advocating that we don't need to exercise! - Our bodies are designed for movement!!... - BUT unfortunately you’re probably not burning as many calories as you think at the gym and so trying to make up for poor nutrition habits through excessive exercise won’t work! The calories you burn during exercise are not equal to the calories you eat, there are many more variables sorry! - Instead shift your focus! It makes working towards your goals a lot more enjoyable!! - EAT FOOD for energy and nutrients to nourish your body in a way that supports your goals, to give you what you need to be able to exercise and get through your busy day to day life, handle stress and recover effectively. - EXERCISE to live longer, for physical and mental health, for cardiovascular health, to build muscle and to maintain strong and healthy bones. - FUEL YOUR BODY FOR THE WORK REQUIRED. - Stop the yo yo effect and the cycle of binge-restrict-punish. Experience enjoyment in what your body can do rather than punishing your body for the food you ate. - #jshnutrition See more

12.01.2022 THERE ARE NO CHEAT MEALS. - Cheat meals are something you will never hear me talk about. We need to change our vocabulary around ‘cheat’ food. - Cheating implies you are doing something wrong. When you eat food you are not doing anything wrong! How we talk to ourselves matters and that goes for food as well. Assigning power and emotions to food can be detrimental to your progress. It can create a negative relationship with food and limit positive change. ... - Seeking a long term change will not come from a negative place. - There are no good foods or bad foods, everything has its place and cheating implies the food is bad. This can lead to feelings of failure e.g. when you are not ‘good’ you are automatically 'bad or wrong or off plan'. There is no flexibility or middle ground in these words which are both important factors to promote enjoyment, adherence and sustainability. - A more flexible mindset leads to less stress and more favourable outcomes. It builds resilience to change and you are more adaptable. Food is essential to survival. We need it. So working on having a good relationship with it will set you up for the rest of your life. Reframe how you view these foods, accept them as a small part of an array of food! - Goals are better achieved with a positive mindset. - #jshnutrition See more

02.01.2022 Have you tried all the 'diets' out there and are still struggling to get results? - All 'fad diets' induce weight loss through calorie restriction. It is true, you do need to be in a calorie deficit to lose body fat. This means eating fewer calories than you expend over a period of time. - Whether you are doing low carb, keto, shakes etc they all help you implement a calorie deficit. There is also usually a set of instructions to follow and a 'start' and 'end' point. This ma...kes them appealing and seemingly easy to implement. BUT if you're reading this and nodding but still havn't seen results you will KNOW they are not easy to maintain! - The word 'diet' has become something we 'go on' but in actual fact our 'diet ' is just the food we eat every day and the habits we have around food day to day. There is no start and end point to this, it's what we do day in and day out. - Fad diets usually involve implementing ways of eating that we cannot maintain so when the 'diet' is over you haven't built the habits and behaviours you need long term. There is also usually a focus on 'good' and 'bad' foods and restriction of food goups which just makes us crave these more. Can you relate to the 'end of fad diet' binge? - These fad diets do not teach you about how the calorie deficit works, they do not teach you about how to lose body fat and keep it off, they do not have much enjoyment, they do not teach you the actions and behaviours you will need to maintain your results long term. - Your DIET should contain a variety of foods, there should be a place for foods you enjoy, room for eating out and social occasions, there should be periods of calorie restriction if you are trying to lose body fat balanced with periods of maintainence so you can learn how to maintain your results, avoid diet fatigue, support your body to remain healthy while trying to achieve your goals. I strongly believe in MINIMIUM EFFECTIVE DOSE. - You don't need to start with extremes, build your body up first by improving energy, mood and stress levels. Then implement small adjustments over a period of time, enjoy the process, practice new habits and build a positive relationship with food. See more
