15.01.2022 Fun with form Barcelona: Sagrada Familia More on our trip through Spain, and again, works in Barcelona, the city which was the home ground of Gaudi, another world-famous architect In addition to Park Guell, Casa Mila, Casa Vicens, Casa Batllo, the most prestigious and perhaps most well-known and recognizable of Gaudi’s work is the Sagrada Familia.... Gaudi spent most of his life working on the Sagrada Familia. Since his death in 1926, the building has been under construction, now over 138 years in the making, and has been listed as a world heritage building. Even though it is unfinished, this spectacular and amazing project still attracts countless tourists every year. Walking into the centre of the nave of Sagrada Familia, you are immediately taken aback by the height of the pillars leading to the sky. The hyperbolic, parabolic design and the color-inlaid glass combine to give one breathtaking experience. The Sagrada Familia is a Catholic church and has three magnificent facades; The nativity façade, symbolizing the birth of Jesus, and the crucifixion façade symbolizing his death, are the two which have been completed thus far. The third, the glory façade, which will be the main church gate, is still currently under construction. There are 18 minarets in the design of this façade which symbolize the Twelve Apostles: the Virgin Mary, the four great gospel authors, and Jesus himself. Until now only four minarets of the two facades has been completed. The current goal is to complete the Sagrada Familia by 2026 on the 100th anniversary of Gaudi’s death in order to pay tribute to Gods architect. My client-God is not in a hurry, and the angels will see it Antoni Gaudi

05.01.2022 Fun with form Barcelona: Frank Gehry’s Golden Fish Sculpture A hot summers day in July, there are plenty of people playing along the sands of Barcelona beach. Proceed along the beach towards Olympic Port and you will run into one exceptionally large, sculpture of a fish! Known by some as the Picasso of architecture, this golden fish was designed by architect Frank Gehry, arguably one of the world’s most famous architects of post-modernism architecture.... The 52-meter-long metal fish is approx. 12 floors high and was designed for the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Made of stainless steel with a golden surface treatment that shines under the sun, the sculpture changes in appearance depending on the angle and the light, its form somewhat representative of flying fins cheering for the Olympic players. Standing for nearly 30 years, this famed sculpture still attracts countless tourists every year. More shares of our trip soon as we go off and explore the beauty of Barcelona and why so many consider it to be one of the worlds capitals of art and architecture!
