22.01.2022 This tree serves as a good reminder of how important it is to have your trees inspected. From the ground this Eucalyptus botryoides (Southern Mahogany) looked perfectly healthy and structurally sound. However an aerial inspection revealed these pockets of water in nearly every branch union. This is caused by cockatoos, which chew out the unions so that limbs tear out and eventually create hollows for future generations. A very clever evolutionary trait, however not ideal if these limbs overhang your house! The size of these branches and their proximity to the house, the exposed location of the tree and the high level of pedestrian activity underneath deemed it high risk. 15.01.2022 You could be forgiven for struggling to see the association between tree work and habitat creation. Where possible and safe, we can re-purpose dead trees into ‘habitat poles’ to target a range of local species. We do so by having hollows that have specific dimensions, shapes and orientations. This sequence shows the process of carving a hollow out of a dead gum tree which had all of the hazardous sections removed. ... Carving a hollow instead of installing a prebuilt one has numerous benefits such as the insulating properties the trunk of the tree has to regulate the temperature inside the hollow and the discrete appearance of these hollows which also adds value from an aesthetic point of view. 08.01.2022 Don't put off having your trees trimmed this winter for fear of having your lawn torn up by heavy machinery! Our compact but capable four wheel drive utility which tows our lightest in its class wood chipper, allows us to tread lightly around your property and go where other tree services simply can't. Winter is the perfect time to be pruning. Particularly deciduous species such as Elm and Oak trees which are susceptible to Dutch Elm Disease and Oak Wilt. The pathogens, like ...the trees, are dormant in winter so pruning now greatly decreases the chances of spreading the disease. Most fruit trees are also best pruned in winter. When they are leafless the structure is clearer, allowing us to place our cuts more accurately. Pruning in winter will also greatly increase fruit production by forcing the tree to put all its energy into productive (retained) branches in spring.
