24.01.2022 When the pig decides his pen is no longer suitable, lucky he is to fat to go far.

24.01.2022 Full dams, more erosion from the rain, my Willow is still around and one muddy kid.

23.01.2022 For those that remember my pickled garlic. I miss making my products to sell.

23.01.2022 Because it’s orphaned and needed a new home, so cute when they are this little. Shame it’s a dorper.

21.01.2022 For those who have just joined us, we are a small family run farm, who is in the middle of one of the hardest droughts in our area for a very long time. We are classed as a green drought, things look green but what you see is weeds and clumps of grass, we are lucky to have 3 full dams of water, thanks to the last lot of rain which we recorded 65ml, we have been pumping from the middle dam into our tanks for over 18 months now. We have been hand feeding our stock shop waste ...that is no longer fit for human consumption, we travel an estimated 1100km per week round trip to pick up locally and out of area, every day we have somewhere to pick up from, it takes us up to 2 hours to sort the food then in the afternoon another 3 hours to get it ready into tubs and out to the stock, all the fruit and veg is cut into smaller pieces for easy eating. People say well Johnny has a trade why can’t he work off farm. Yep he could but with no one willing to give him a start in town and having to travel back to our old area for work sometime further, that leaves me to do everything here on the farm. With 2 school age kids and out of area feed pick ups 3 week days and everything else I do, I physically can not do some of the things he does alone here. Also how do you explain to the builder you can only work till 12 on most days. Our stock get fed better then we do, everything we have goes to them. We use to grow and bottle award winning pickles preserves chutneys and jams but due to lack of interest in supporting locally grown and bottled produce, we decided to close that side of our business and concentrate on the stock animals. This year alone I have hand raised 25 poddy calves, the biggest number so far. Through winter with the unusual minus 8 temps we lost a lot of lambs and calves, this was extremely devastating and took a huge toll on us mentally. We started to destock last Christmas of all our cross bred sheep and will send more off to the sales in the new year along with some of the dairy calves I raised 12 mths ago. Since July we have had a total of 243ml, more then some, less then others, not enough to get the ground cover to grow. We no longer post the hard times, it’s mentally draining and depressing if we do. We are not large scale farmers by any means but we are giving it a go on the land we have. I’m also a wild life carer with 4 eastern grey joeys in care, a resident Wallaroo who steals food from the feed shed and bashes up the dogs and a demanding magpie. Thank you again to all those who have stepped up to help us, with out the support and encouragement we have gotten, I’m not sure where we would be today. For a drought declared farm our stock look pretty good I think and no one can say we don’t care about our animals.

21.01.2022 I think the sheep have had enough of the rain, the creek is up again for the 4th time since Sunday night, wonder which fence we will loose this time.

21.01.2022 We are in this together

21.01.2022 What am I up to today,

20.01.2022 We are asking for community help again in shop waste collection. If we can’t find more supplies unfortunately the goat and pigs will go first.

19.01.2022 It’s been a long time since I’ve bottle products, I think once this situation we are all in is over, I’m going to get back into making and selling. We now have an online store for Sonny’s various bagged lollies which I can sell through. In the last 2 weeks I’ve made sweet mustard pickles, raspberry Jam and bread and butter pickles. I really miss bottling and selling.

15.01.2022 Yum !!! Just added some marinated feta and preserved in olive oil

15.01.2022 I love cows, they are such social animals. Next doors cow has come to the fence line so ours have moved to the fence line for a chat.

14.01.2022 Something to think about I don’t normally post something like this on an open forum, I normally leave it for my personal posts. I want people to think about what is going on at the moment, yep the joke about the no toilet paper or hand sanitizer in the shops. Here is a little insight into my world....Continue reading

13.01.2022 Finally we could get the old girl here.

11.01.2022 Just checking out the scenery

06.01.2022 Strawberry jam. I’m bartering a jar for more glass

04.01.2022 When the dams start turning green. I hope our fish are going to be ok. So need that rain to fall.

04.01.2022 Creek is flowing, dams and tanks are full. Those in town should be happy, that creek water runs into their water supply. Hopefully we make it into Sydney tomorrow morning for Sonnys interview with Alan Jones.

02.01.2022 Not sure what that green stuff is, but the finishing paddock on the other side of the creek is starting to pump with it. Gates have been closed to let it grow. The second pic is what it use to look like 3 years ago.

02.01.2022 New additions just keep arriving. Love it when we get new babies. We have 14 lambs and 2 calves so far this year. Slowly rebuilding the numbers.

02.01.2022 Avery who we got Blue (John’s dog) from has designed this shirt for a fundraiser. Extremely talented !! Get behind it and buy a shirt.
