24.01.2022 Johnes Disease in Canada Now most of Australia have deregulated Johnes disease, we will be like North America, where Johnes disease prevention has always bee...n an individuals responsibility. Canadas dairy goat industry has rapidly grown. A recent survey found the prevalence in dairy goat herds is 83% ie 8 out of every 10 dairy goat herds have JD. Source = Bauman et al 2016. This is why I am asking all goat owners to take extreme care before buying stock to ensure they dont introduce JD into their herds See more

22.01.2022 Well we have had a rough 18 months at Jubilee Dairy Goats. As most of you know I left my previous partner and travelled 1300kms north to Mackay. Bringing with me only my best goats. I settled in with Jason and left my goats only a few months of kidding with Kylie and Leo Hopkins. Poor Kylie Hopkins was stuck with my goats for 6 months, much longer than anticipated. I finally found a paddock in Mackay and bought the girls up here. Everyone was settled in nicely. Then we bought... the bucks home and set upon a breeding plan for 2017. Then disaster after disaster struck. I had to sell a few goats to pay for solicitors fees. Then we got struck with a cyclone and the breeding plan was out the window as my mature buck served everything whilst the girls were in the backyard for two weeks lol. Then we got kick out of our paddock as the girls decided to escape their paddock through a barbed wire fence mind you and eat all the trees and flowers in an area the owner had reserved for weddings. Luckily we had made friends with the neighbours two doors up and we were able to run them in the paddock right behind our house. Thank goodness the next door neighbour is an ex farmer as the bucks were pretty rank by this time and he has owned goats before. I have not been able to find any hay in Mackay that the goats will eat. They dont like the local pangolin hay, and the lucerne is far too expensive and not good enough. So on paddock feed and some pellets that Lesley Mcdowell put me onto the goats are now kidding and milking well. I have kids that are just superb and my young stock have the udders I have been trying to achieve for 10 years. So happy times. Here are some photos today of the goats in paddock condition milking just as well as ever. See more

09.01.2022 Loving their new home

09.01.2022 After honing his skills as an editorial photographer in Chicago for 30 years, Kevin Horan moved to Whidbey Island, Washington and was inspired by models of a di...fferent breedgoats, rams, and sheep. "What would it look like if these creatures came into the studio and asked to have their portraits made?" he asked. The answer comes in the form of Chattel, a 32-image series of black-and-white portraits of livestock. Horan explains, "For me, this project is a study in portraiture itself. Its so interesting that these goats and sheep appear to have such strong personalities, emphasis on appear. I still wonder how much is in there, and how much is applied through the way theyre photographed, and the way were used to looking at photographs. Ive made countless portraits of humans, and I wonder the same thing about them." - The Creators Project All images (c) Kevin Horan
