20.01.2022 How much responsibility do Celebrants have to help couples select the celebrant who is really the right one for them? We all know that components of a wedding add up in the thousands and tens of thousands of dollars these days and I am still perplexed that the first question often asked by an enquiring couple is, "What is your fee?" I try to get couples to chat with me, or possibly meet before committing to me being part of their special day, but often they are content to c...hoose on the basis of dollars, possibly settling for a poorer quality or a re write of someone else's ceremony. I know that websites, Facebook pages and other materials like cards allow us to share information, but I really wish that it was the norm for couples to personalise their ceremony with the same passion that they have for things like their dress, suits, flowers and venue. Me, I like to develop ceremonies from scratch having used a range of methods to find out their passions, dreams, stories and reason for marrying. I wonder how we, as Celebrants can find other ways to help couples find the perfect Celebrant match? See more

20.01.2022 It was great fun working with my friend, celebrant, Penni to celebrate and officiate at Amy and Max's ceremony yesterday at the Summit of Mt Lofty. Views of Ade...laide, a breathtaking sunset, assorted tourists and loved ones all framed this beautiful and personal ceremony for the now Mr and Ms Harris. Congratulations! See more

20.01.2022 Interesting information posted by a Marriage Equality Celebrant that highlights what marriage is, legally: WHAT IS LEGAL MARRIAGE IN AUSTRALIA? All legal marriages in Australia are under the Commonwealth Marriage Act since 1961.... It is called Marriage because it is under the Marriage Act. The Marriage Act does not mention God, Jesus, any religion or religious deity. The Marriage Act does not mention love or the ability to have children. The Marriage Act is a completely secular document open to use by all beliefs. The majority of marriages in Australia are secular and solemnised by Celebrants. Commonwealth Celebrants are authorised by the Attorney-General, not ordained. At the heart of a legal marriage is a simple sworn and witnessed Statutory Declaration. Religious Marriages are simply Civil marriages officiated by religious celebrants. Legal marriage immediately grants rights like kinship, property and benefits. Gender was never part of The Marriage Act until Parliament amended it in 2004.

17.01.2022 So excited that 5 and a half years after their commitment ceremony, tomorrow, I am marrying my dear friends, Barry and Ivan.

16.01.2022 As a retired teacher, I often have the joy of performing weddings for former students. I also love hearing about their engagements as that is a truly magical time. Congratulations not beautiful Sigrid who has just become engaged.

16.01.2022 It is with great joy and pride that I celebrated the marriage of Barry and Ivan, great friends. Proudly the first of my same sex marriages.

12.01.2022 People love the babies in my letterhead and card. This is a real, gorgeous family member who is a "big school girl" now, aged 6!

11.01.2022 There is a cycle of life and it is special to be a part of the special events in people's lives. Last year, I stood in front of Max and Amy at their wonderful wedding. This week, I stood once again with Max, but this time we celebrated the life of his wonderful grandmother Joan who passed away at age 94. A life well lived. Funerals can be wonderful when the family and celebrant work as partners. Thank you for the opportunity to lead celebrating her life.

10.01.2022 So excited that the new legislation is meaning that I can officiate marriages for friends, old and new. I have several marriages coming up that are unique and so wonderful to write as totally individual ceremonies for same sex couples. It has also inspired me to explore different personalised ceremonies for all of my couples. A win/win for all

10.01.2022 My work is beautifully diverse and poignant. Last week, I led the celebration of the life of Kanya Bishop, taken too early at 57. It was joyful to have a ceremony that was opened by three Buddhist monks who both blessed Kenya and led prayers for her life and future. In April, I married her son Jup to the love of his life Nicole. It is so special to be a part of a family who celebrate so many different events, laden with both joy and sadness. Thank you, and my thoughts are with you all.

04.01.2022 When holidaying in beautiful Phuket I was reminded how fortunate I am, as a Celebrant, to have worked with so many different cultures and spiritual groups. I have done celebrations of life with Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic priests and recently, with three Buddhist monks when celebrating the wonderful life of a beautiful Thai born woman. What all have in common is the belief that once gone, we continue to be part of the lives that we touch, and sometimes shape. It is profound and very humbling, and an important part of my work.
