According to Beyond Blue: 1 in 10 young people aged 12-17 years old will self-harm. 1 in 13 will seriously consider a suicide attempt. 1 in 40 will attempt suicide.... We can often feel so out of depth when it comes to helping people with mental ill-health, but one of the most powerful things we can do is to simply LOVE. 12.01.2022 Meet Taliah! Taliah is one of our front of house staff members and has the biggest heart for youth and young people. Taliah is incredible sweet, kind and we have loved watching her grow in leadership this year. Read about her story of why she is passionate about what we do at Jude's. Taliah’s Story... "I count myself very lucky to have not lost anyone close to me to bad mental health in my life. But at 18 I know the stats are not in my favour, I know too many people who have struggled with mental health and self worth, and my heart breaks because despite everything I do and say, I feel like my words are drowned out by the noise of the world. I know that many young people find their worth and purpose in what other people think of them and I know that the words spoken over young people in our community are not always positive. I’ve been part of the Tailrace youth team for 3 years and every week I see that the words of the world are weighing heavily on the shoulders of our youth. Every week my heart breaks because our youth have so much potential but its not called out often enough for them to believe it. My heart breaks every time a youth seems surprised when we ask how they are or tell them that they are unconditionally loved because this should be normal in their lives. My heart breaks every week, because I know that my words are drowned out by the noise of the world. That’s why Jude’s is so important to me. Because Jude’s is a place of purpose, love and belonging. A place that champions young people and repeats words of love and purpose until they can’t be forgotten. I am so excited for the impact that Jude’s will have and I feel so honoured to be part of it."

11.01.2022 Meet Armi! Armi has been working in our kitchen for 9 years! She is an incredible, hard working and loyal person. In the past 9 years our cafe and the Tailrace Function centre has gone through lots of different changes, but Armi has always been here to bring her calm, her insight and her beautiful spirit to the team. We love the way she encourages others and helps create a positive work environment. Thank you for all you do Armi, a lot of it goes unseen, but you're an invaluable and irreplaceable part of our team and we appreciate you so so much. It really is your kitchen.

09.01.2022 We love that on Monday's we get to partner with the Red Shed at NOSS who come into our cafe for a couple of hours and use the space to teach their students hospitality skills. We love that even when our cafe is closed it is still being used to empower people. You will even see some of their students helping out in our cafe during the week.
