25.01.2022 Thought I'd add a banner paying homage to Joseph Mallord William Turner!! If it wasn't for this amazing artist, watercolour would most likely still be a medium used for preliminary sketching only!! Thankfully Turner was a man before his time!! His life was just as interesting as his artworks!!... My Mousemat minus the paint spatters!!

24.01.2022 Jill's lovely loose floral done in watercolour with some magical touches of white acrylic!! The colours and the flowers "sing" together beautifully!!

24.01.2022 Great job Viv, you painted the light as well as the painting!! Well done!!

24.01.2022 To tweak or not to tweak, that is the question??!!??!! My gift to my dear Friend, Mr Cameleer, Alice Springs legend extraordinaire Eric Sultan which I painted for International Camel Day the other day & also to make Eric smile! He's seen it and said it's, "Deadly" which. he informs me is very very GOOD!! Lol I painted it loosely and wanted a sense the camels anticipating heading off & also a sense of movement amongst the camels!... My quandary is, should I tweak it just a little or should I leave it as a very impressionistic painting which tells the story but leaves some of the detail to the imagination of the viewer?!?!? I painted this painting with kind permission from a fave artist of mine, Trevor Waugh, of Wiltshire England. Permission has been given to use any of Trevor's paintings as a reference.... How kind of him!! Unsigned till I know I've finished it. See more

23.01.2022 Lorraine's fabulous version of a Soraya French painting! Painted from her Soraya French book with a little help and guidance, Lorraine learned lots more about painting loosely and expressively!! The tetradic (or double complementary) colour scheme is a delight and nearly vibrates on the canvas!!

21.01.2022 THE MAGIC OF WATERCOLOUR!! THIS ARTWORK IS BARB WALKER'S EXPERIMENT!! WHEN YOU EXPERIMENT WITH WATERCOLOUR & DON'T TRY TO PAINT A MASTERPIECE, THE MEDIUM ITSELF SHOWS US HOW TO USE IT TO IT'S ABSOLUTE BEST............ WITH LOTS OF WATER AND PIGMENT, IN ALL ITS DIVERSITY FROM, GRANULATING TO STAINING, FROM WARM TO COOL AND FROM DARK TO LIGHT AND SO SO MUCH MORE!!... IT IS THE STUFF OF DREAMS TO AN ARTIST!! When I was teaching, "A Splash with Water," up in my HOME COUNTRY at CURDNATTA, NOW PLATFORM GALLERY, PORT AUGUSTA, BACK A FEW YEARS AGO, THIS WAS BARB WALKER'S WONDERFUL EXPLOSION OF WATERCOLOUR!! SIMPLY AND WONDERFULLY DIVINE!! DO HAVE A GO EXPERIMENTING WITH DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES IN WATERCOLOUR!! YOU WILL SURPRISE YOURSELF AND TEACH YOURSELF SO MUCH AS YOU WATCH WHAT THE PAINT DOES!!!! DON'T FORGET TO TAKE NOTICE SO YOU REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT IT DOES DO!! AS YOU KNOW, IT IS WAY BETTER THAN ANY MAGIC YOU HAVE EVER SEEN!!

19.01.2022 My Painting Pal Miriam's Underwater scene! Two stages shown here.... stage 1 and the finished painting! This was painted in a tighter way because of the subject matter and to suit the person for whom it was too be a gift!

16.01.2022 Helen's delightful rendition of our loose watercolour roses we've been busy painting!! All the mark making and spatters make it look as if they're sitting in the middle of a beautiful cottage garden!! I love it!! :)

15.01.2022 Doing some browsing to find a name for a particular artwork from the 1800s but then decided to look at a whole heap of Turner's works online Couldn't help but love the light in all these thumbnails of just a tiny selection of Turner's works Better in real life but still beautiful as a collection of "lit up" thumbnails So glad Turner challenged the establishment or we would be stuck in a timewarp and not have discovered the very magical qualities of watercolour as an artform in itself instead of just for little and minor sketching Makes me happy we had Turner even though he could be a rather naughty fellow :)

14.01.2022 Lorraine's beautiful "Jude" style roses in watercolour & acrylic! Only two maincolours once again .... Payne's Grey & Moonglow plus titanium white acrylic. Moonglow is a beautiful Daniel Smith granulating colour, a favourite of mine!! It's a very toned violet hue composed of, Viridian Green, which is a pigment green 18 French Ultramarine Blue, PB29 and & Anthraquinoid Red, PR177. ... Lorraine's practise is paying off! Well done Lorraine!

08.01.2022 Lorraine's learning time yesterday of how to use watercolour using a variety of techniques to be ready to paint a mono Rose study next week took on a life of its own and became a painting!! With some guidance & help from me Surprises and happy accidents are part of the joy of painting!!

04.01.2022 Two to Tango - A Watercolour - one of my 2020 SALA entries. For those of you who paint ...............This painting shows the magic of Burnt Sienna and French Ultra "tangoing" to make beautiful colour combos!! So much can be done using a limited palette of only 2 or 3 colours! ... Here, used throughout the painting are different combinations of Burnt Sienna and French Ultramarine Blue - they "dance" together beautifully!! These two colours make a stunning combination for a limited palette landscape!! Even a seascape! Your imagination is your only limit! Have a go with these colours and let me know how you went! how you went! :)
