20.01.2022 Last day of 2020 - a selection of some of the pieces I have completed during this huge muddle of a year! A mixture of different media - graphite pencil, coloured pencil, watercolour and acrylic. We have been so fortunate here in the Northern Territory compared to the rest of Australia and even more particularly compared to so many parts of the world. Looking forward to 2021 and hopefully a whole lot more artwork created!
13.01.2022 The monsoon has been pouring down on us for the past couple of days so it has been the perfect opportunity to spend some time playing with a few draft pattern ideas! This one is based on my illustrations of Hibbertia brevipedunculata - a lowgrowing seasonal native small shrub.
12.01.2022 I am sometimes asked where do you start with a drawing?. I usually start with the eyes cos if the eyes don’t look right nothing else will. Also, once the eyes start to get a bit of personality i just can’t leave the rest of the face buried in the page! This short video shows how Jemma’s portrait developed over a few days.
09.01.2022 A portrait study of Yarak, a magnificent female wedge-tailed eagle residing at the Territory Wildlife Park here in the NT. Based on my own reference photos and the opportunity to observe Yarak up close as part of my ‘Artist-in-the-Park’ residency in 2020. Coloured pencil on Stonehenge brand paper. Due to it being such a crazy muddled up Covid year, the park being closed for some time and several of the artists being unable to travel to the NT, the programme has been extended for another year. Which is excellent news as I also was unable to achieve as much this year as I had hoped.
07.01.2022 Who’s this?! Looks a bit of an awkward start to life!
04.01.2022 Just finished! This is Jemma, one of my two gorgeous Irish Terriers. Like all Irish Terriers, Jemma has loads of personality and energy! Drawn in professional grade coloured pencils on Grafix drafting film. A4 size.
