24.01.2022 Culmination of our fantastic cooking experience today. We worked hard making a smooth batter to make some fabulous pancakes (Judy cooked them while we watched and chatted). We chopped up fruit and mixed it together in a bowl so we had fruit salad to eat with our pancakes. We put the friut salad on, and rolled up our pancakes - a bit like a burrito - and gobbled them down for our lunch. #pancakes #ourlunch #kidsinthekitchen #exploringcooking #exploringfood #fdc #familydaycare #childcare

23.01.2022 Following on from Z's interest in blowing his tower of cups over, we gave blow painting with straws a go this morning. We discovered if you blow a lot you can get lightheaded, which colours mix to make new colours, how breeze pushes liquids, and how water changes the structure of paper. 23.01.2022 We were using our big watering can this morning and the water was only trickling out. On investigation we discovered that this handsome little guy had stowed away in the watering can spout. He was nice enough to sit on the spout for a bit so we could look at him before he headed back to behind the rainwater tank stand. #frog #creaturesinourgarden #stowaway #kidsgardening #fauna #fdc #familydaycare #childcare

21.01.2022 We discovered lots of beaded water on our cabbages today. The children worked out how to make the drops "run down" the leaves. So many hypotheses about how the water droplets got there. 21.01.2022 T has a strong interest in television. Today he J and E made their own televisions by adding a drawing (this one is Ts Mum and Dad) to the front of a box. T then added in a remote control by drawing buttons on a cardboard tube. 21.01.2022 We had a super windy day today!! Being science week, we headed out to experiment with wind speeed and direction using bubbles. It was so windy that we didn't even have to move the wand to make the bubbles!! 19.01.2022 Today is Farmworkers Appreciation Day. In celebration of all our hardworking farm workers we planted some tiny corn plants in our vegetable garden. 19.01.2022 We got a lovely surprise this morning when the postman bought us a box all the way from the North Pole Kmart. When we opened it, we found a letter box that we can put our Santa letters into so the Elves can take them to Santa at his workshop in the North Pole. We are all very excited that we have another box to add to our box play that T and L requested this morning.

17.01.2022 While Judy was doing a safety check this morning she found a little bird nest that had fallen from our mango tree. We have a few different types of birds who sometimes nest in our very big tree. We have looked at how the bird has woven the nest using grass and leaves and how it lined the nest so it was soft and warm inside. The children wanted to put the nest back for the bird, but Judy is not a very good climber, so the bird will need to make a new nest and we have added the nest to our interesting things collection. #birdnest #nest #thingsinourgarden #creaturesinourgarden #interestingthings #kidsandnature #fdc #familydaycare #childcare

16.01.2022 We celebrated playdoh day today by using playdoh to explore colour and shape. L was fascinated with the shape cutters, using them over and over to replicate the shape into patterns. Playdoh not only provides support for developing fine motor muscles, it also supports maths and science skills, creativity, and when used in a shared environment, helps with language development and social skills. 16.01.2022 C bought in some feathers that she collected at her Nan and Pops farm over the weekend today. She discovered that if she tapped the shafts of the feathers together they produced sound. We compared it to our clapsticks and found the sound was very similar, just much quieter. This led to a very noisy percussion music session. 14.01.2022 Sunday was National Tree Day. Our Scheme, @clarencefdc, gave all our Educators a tree to celebrate. We planted ours in a pot today, so it can get bigger before we find a spot in the garden. Today we transplanted our bok choy seedlings from their baby container into a bigger pot so they can get big enough to join the big veggie plants in our garden. 04.01.2022 A request for superhero play today saw the dressups come out, and heroic feats of bravery performed, saving the world (well our small corner of it) from all evil. That was until Master Batman excitedly threw his facemask into the tree. We then all had to take our superhero masks off and put on our thinking caps to come up with a solution to retrieve it.

03.01.2022 Z and Judy had a very long and involved conversation about creating wearable art a couple of weeks ago. We had a shot at it today. Everyone had their turn at their own shirt, and each shirt is unique. Some just used brushes, but E and N got busy with their hands. It was brilliantly messy fun, and we all got a special shirt out of it to take home to wear.

03.01.2022 A lovely exploratory morning in the garden today. We discovered that cabbage moth grubs were eating our cabbages, and we found some of them. We found a tiny little beetle in our peas. We planted a brocollini plant, and while we were digging the soil to plant it, found the wiggliest worm ever.
