25.01.2022 Endpaper explorations with warthog. #treasurehunter #treasure #adventure #jungle #wildanimals #picturebook #wip
25.01.2022 The latest Kick-About is up on the blog. Some strange musings on the internal life explored in gouache. https://judywatson.net//14/the-kick-about-10-romantic-mus/
24.01.2022 So excited! I’ve just had my first hair cut since last summer. Woohoo! #covidisolation #melbournelockdown2020 #smallpleasures
23.01.2022 #wisp #randominktober2020 a bit of fine liner over another blob, but I took the line weight up to a more comfortable size. And a quick brush and ink one, cause that’s fun, simple and useful to practise, which was the original point of the challenge. #inkonpaper
22.01.2022 The beginnings of work for the #biblioartprize2020 which is an event that celebrates books and art and the relationship between them. I was assigned the book ‘Jane In Love’. I’m starting by playing with a female figure floating in water which refers to a pivotal moment in the book. And I have a concept that will be about an atmospheric place, light, introspection, separateness, and decision making.

22.01.2022 I’m so happy to share that Searching for Cicadas has won an award! there’s a short post on my blog summing up the adventures of my two latest picture books this year. You can read it here. https://judywatson.net//two-picture-books-out-and-about-i/
22.01.2022 I’m having the nicest crafternoon, remembering how to weave my rag rug. This project might take a year or two more and just hangs around on the floor in between sessions of slight growth. #ragrug #rugweaving
20.01.2022 Thanks for your efforts in a very difficult year, teachers. You rock! #teacherlibrarian #teachersrock #teachers #WorldTeachersDay2020
17.01.2022 The prompt for Kick-About #11 is TRAPPIST -1e. By NASA/JPL-Caltech - Cropped from: PIA22093: TRAPPIST-1 Planet Lineup - Updated Feb. 2018, Public Domain, Does it look enticing to you? TRAPPIST-1e is one of the most potentially habitable exoplanets discovered so far. Your descendants may be living there one day. It is similar to the size of Earth and closely orbits a dwarf star named TRAPPIST-1 which is not as hot or bright as our sun. 12.01.2022 I’m tweaking some ducks for #Whenyoureolder today. I love ducks. They are so full of character, and so varied in stature and colour, that they are a delight to draw. #duck #picturebook #wip #judywatsonart
11.01.2022 Just a little experiment. This sketch in ink yesterday was based on Scott. Sorry, Scott. You don’t really look like a matronly duck in an apron.
10.01.2022 It’s turning out to be a pretty nice day in the studio with the fire lit, sketching wild dogs running and converting them to ink. The sun is shining winningly outside. But I’ll power on indoors for now. Also, it was nice to revisit Muybridge for reference because his work is timelessly fascinating and beautiful. #whenyoureolder #picturebook #wip #blackandwhite #sleddogs #dogsrunning
10.01.2022 The blob spoke to me this evening. There are no second chances with blob drawings but this giant would like to be redrawn with a proper ear and maybe even a body. I didn’t want him to be anything other than benign (we have enough to worry about on the world arena) so I didn’t dare give him eyebrows in case he tended to loom. I enjoyed this one, so I must be warming up. (Also an hour’s chicken herding in the spring garden didn’t hurt.) #bulky #randominktoberchallenge #inktober #inkonpaper
09.01.2022 A Scaly Coastal Dragon in its natural habitat. It’s reminding me of a school trip to the Whitsundays when I was about 16. (There was a kangaroo on the beach, but no dragon.) This is a detail from a spread for When You’re Older. #picturebook #wip #whenyoureolder #snippet
06.01.2022 https://judywatson.net///the-kick-about-8-cicada-part-one/ There's a new post up on my blog today. Drawings and ideas about a fairy tale in progress for the Kick-About, #8. Red Riding Hood and a Cicada meet in the clutches of a giant python.
06.01.2022 Another blog post is up. For the Kick-about #13 I tried to translate family connections into an artwork. https://judywatson.net/2020/10/26/the-kick-about-13-ersilia/
05.01.2022 Finishing up for today. Some areas are singing. Others are out of tune. I’m nicely in the middle of this. #wip #painting #acrylicpainting #acryliconwood #abstract #colour #texture #contemporaryart
03.01.2022 A new post is up on my blog, where the little witch takes flight. https://judywatson.net//the-kick-about-9-short-ride-in-a-/
02.01.2022 More and more wild dogs appear. Here are a few. #whenyoureolder #gettingcarriedaway #snow #sled #sleddog #picturebook #wip
02.01.2022 A somber iso mood today. I lost myself in some collage work. #collage #collageart #downwardlookingdog #outthestudiowindow
02.01.2022 This is Noodle. Her origins are unknown, and we adopted her as a 'beagle mix' three years ago. Probably she has a fair bit of staffie in her and perhaps Jack Russell Terrier. I have said that I‘ll get her DNA tested one day to see what she really is, but perhaps that would disappoint. We have always called her The Beagle. 01.01.2022 Sled dogs in progress. Very fun to colour up, while spring approaches outside. (Oops! Better give him a tongue.) #whenyoureolder #sleddogs #wip #picturebook
01.01.2022 This little fellow hasn’t made the cut and is about to be deleted from the illustration. I like his happy face and blue beanie though. Goodbye little boy. #whenyoureolder #snow #scavengerhunt #camping #arctic
