25.01.2022 For those of you who have been aware in all the news cycles of depression and sadness this post is relevant to Griffith University's Vice Chancellor and admin decision to scrap the Printmaking Department with staff in 2021 [ thats not all]. Russell Craig [ former lecturer there for 40 years] has posted this today. Please send a letter of some kind to the VC at Griffith once you have checked this bad decision.

19.01.2022 One reason we began Jugglers in 2002 in Brunswick St was to provide affordable studio space for artists leaving QCA & QUT. Let’s work with the students at QCA to save their own studios on Southbank and more. Accountants don’t make art!
18.01.2022 #Repost @matthew_newkirk_art JUGGLERS DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS BUDGETARY DECISION BY @griffithuniversity @qcagriffith In regard to proposed changes at the Queensland College if Art. "I am deeply moved by and grateful for the scale and speed of the public response to the major cuts that Griffith University is planning to make at QCA. I have spent my whole career within the field of printmaking and my perspective is informed by 35 years of experience in tertiary art education. T...he plans effecting QCA Griffith University, its Arts, Education and Law faculty and the director of QCA have advised staff that they plan to close down the following studios, and all related courses at QCA. Jewellery & Small Objects, Print(making), Advertising Photography Documentary Photography All associated permanent staff have been advised they would therefore be surplus to requirements and all associated sessional staff will be affected as well. If these plans go ahead, 10 staff in Fine Art and Photography (including 2 theory staff) will be made redundant, reducing the staff body by close to a half, and many invisible sessional staff will be severely effected. (QCA lost 16 teaching staff only 4 years ago in 2016). The teaching skills, technical support and studio resources essential for the future growth of these studio’s communities will be lost to Qld forever. These resources are never recovered by art schools, it would significantly lower the standing of QCA as a leading art school in Australia and remove Brisbane from the list of places where students can experience the full breadth of a studio based art education. The loss of a true studio based teaching model for art would force QCA into a different mode of teaching and into a different field of very experienced competitors." #QCASoS #QCASaveOurStudios #QCASaveOurStaff #griffithuni #griffithuniversity #australianart #contemporaryart #print #contemporaryartist @griffithuniversity @qcagriffith @qcagalleries @caia_qca @qca_photography
17.01.2022 Resonance with what we did for years at 103 Brunswick Street and beyond. Great story.
15.01.2022 Yesterday playing music in hospital for the Stairwell Project (Musicians in Hospital - rethinking clinical spaces). Arriving, I had a brief chat to a 20 somethi...ng gent who had a bandage on his arm from chemo and a Hendrix t-shirt so that got us talking. I went to set up and he went to get treatment. In oncology, as I played at Bossa Nova, Jazz, Pop, originals and Classical repertoire I had quite a few nods and smiles. One lady recognised "Classical Gas" (Mason Williams/Tommy Emannuel) and asked for a specific concerto! I didn't have my orchestra with me that day... I was playing a quieter tune and looked up towards the elevators (see pic)and saw a teenage girl in a wheelchair sobbing gently while her father stood behind holding her as tight as he could bent over with his head on hers. I try my best not to let such overwhelm me and keep providing the music as I can. Each day offers these little anecdotes-some happy and some sad. It makes me empathise with of our fellow humans around the world who, every day, face violence or pandemic. That needs healing too.
14.01.2022 @matthew_newkirk_art with our best we are not happy faces on, about the shocking proposed cuts to Queensland College of Art, Griffith University. QCA is world r...enown for its high quality staff and graduated Alumni who have worked across many diverse industries locally and fields globally. I attended QCA in the 80’s so it has a particular place in my heart. If the proposal is progressed QCA will lose 44% (almost half) of their teaching staff across Fine Art and Photography and 16.7% in Design. (In addition of many invaluable, but invisible sessional and technical staff directly impact student education and the maintenance of studios). This a great loss for not only the staff and students but for the cultural capacity for the Creative sector in Queensland. Also series of posters produced by What you can do?
