17.01.2022 There’s so many incredible Blues artists to discover - here’s a new one for me: Mable Hillary. Her voice is like molten honey - just gorgeous!

17.01.2022 Did you know it's 100 years since the first Blues song was recorded by a Black artist? Her name was Mamie Smith and she became a huge recording star in a time when songs by Black musicians were routinely covered by white artists. Mamie proved that there was an insatiable demand for authentic blues perfomed by and for Black artists and fans. Read more about this ground breaking record and the impact of Black women on the history of music in America and the world here: https://www.nytimes.com//music/mamie-smith-crazy-blues.html

17.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who came along to Virtual Juke Joint last Thursday - here's the class recap for the second section of choreography. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Asai-hX1AA&feature=youtu.be

16.01.2022 Virtual Juke Joint going live NOW!!! Come join us

15.01.2022 Here’s a clip of the wonderful Son House. He was a formative influence on Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson, before he turned his back on music in the 40s. Then he was re-discovered in the 60s in the blues and folk revival and had a second career long after his first.

13.01.2022 Sadly, it looks like it will be a while before we can dance with other people again, but in the meantime how about a little dance around your living room with the fabulous John Lee Hooker? This Blues legend was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980, and this song was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of the 500 songs that shaped Rock and Roll. How's that for a legacy! https://www.facebook.com/JohnLeeHookerofficial/videos/742283036314680/

13.01.2022 Marquise Knox asks "Can a young man play the blues". I think we can all agree the answer is YES! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wv4UTMMnkY

10.01.2022 I love this, it just goes to show that with some creativity and rhythm you can do pretty much anything. Who knew a broom could be a musical instrument?

10.01.2022 Want some solo blues inspiration? Check out this beautiful clip from Mike Legenthal. And in a happy coincidence, she is teaching online classes with the equally amazing Ruth Evelyn, so you can learn from two of the USA's best blues teachers from the comfort of your living room!

09.01.2022 Muddy Waters is getting his Mojo Working... check out 5.35 where he grabs a band mate for a dance! https://fb.watch/3ROLALXxIe/

09.01.2022 We often talk about Blues being an African American art form, and how important it is that we respect the culture that created this beautiful music and dance that we all love. Sadly, in the last week we've seen how far we still have to go for Black people both here and in the US to be treated as equals. Shob and Andy in Melbourne are organising an event to raise funds for two worthwhile charities that are working towards reducing police violence in the US and supporting Indigenous women in prison here. So come along and celebrate our beautiful Blues community while raising funds for our Black brothers and sisters here and abroad.

07.01.2022 Happy birthday BB King!

07.01.2022 Here’s some classic blues to get your day started... what an amazing line up!

06.01.2022 Tonight from 7.00pm - Blues for Justice with Shob and Andy! Help raise money and awareness for this incredibly important cause. Here's the details: https://www.facebook.com/events/723248681776205/

05.01.2022 Man, I want to go to this Barber! https://fb.watch/2qfwf32JsH/

03.01.2022 Missing live music? Check out this livestream by Jesse Redwing this Saturday - he’s an incredible young Bluesman with talent to spare!

03.01.2022 Want to learn more about the history of Blues music and dancing? Check out this excellent presentation by Mike Legenthal :-)

03.01.2022 The Blues Geek dance workshop is going Virtual this year, so now you can get your geek on without having to fly to the US! With dozens of classes on offer from some of the world's best Blues teachers this is a great opportunity to learn from people you'd normally have to get on a plane to see. The tickets are US$80 but that gives you access to all the pre-recorded classes, and they are recording the live classes too (which sadly are in the middle of the night for us here in Sydney). Both will be available till the end of this year, so that you can continue to work on your Blues at home. I've got my ticket - can't wait! https://www.facebook.com/events/2272619799617212/

02.01.2022 The first time I saw the Blues Brothers movie I only recognized a few of the musicians, but as the years have gone by and my love of Blues has grown I’ve realized what an incredible wealth of performers they had in that film. If you’ve ever wondered what Matt ‘Guitar’ Murphy (he played Aretha Franklin’s husband) sounded like as a younger man, then check this out. Enjoy! https://www.facebook.com/67832780820/posts/10158766311445821/?vh=e&d=n

01.01.2022 On this cold, wet Monday, here's some music that's sure to put a smile on your face! Featuring Blues legend Taj Mahal and a bunch of other talented musicians, this makes me want to chill on a beach sipping a cocktail - enjoy :-)

01.01.2022 Have you been missing your favorite Juke Joint DJs? Come join DJ Andy Dandy from the comfort of your living room this Monday for a night of eclectic tunes spanning blues to rock and everything in between! https://www.facebook.com/plattersplatterradio/ https://fb.me/e/18mwVID8K
