22.01.2022 This could be dangerous Pressure cookers are in fashion, but because they work under pressure, if there is a fault in the pressure release the user could be scalded by the steam and suffer greatly. Unfortunately a new pressure cooker product a Nutrex 9Ltr Cooker put out by Rena Ware and sold at Kartel Holdings has a problem in that its pressure release may not work. You might not own one of these pressure cookers but you might know someone who does. They have been on sale... since January 2017. If you see one in a home advise the owner they need to contact Kartel Holdings to have it replaced or repaired.

22.01.2022 This is more than just dangerous There is a recall on Magic Magnetic DIY Balls. They look pretty and obviously each ball contains a magnet which makes them hold together in the square. Only problem. And it is a big one. The amount of magnetic flux in the balls are stronger than it should be. This means: should a young child get hold of a couple of the balls and swallow them - well you know what toddlers are like - the balls could stick together in the child's intestin...es and cause internal damage, and possibly death. The Magic Balls were sold on the internet between March and July this year. If you or someone you know has these square of magnetic balls they should be returned to SmartPress the EBay seller. There is an email address for further information [email protected] As I said, it is more than dangerous. Looks pretty but could be life threatening for the small fry.

21.01.2022 ARE CLEANSERS WITH DISINFECTANT GOOD FOR YOUR CHILD? The other night I watched an advert for a liquid soap containing disinfectant. The advert was aimed at Mums because it showed children washing their hands in the product. Over the past three or four years there have been more and more promotions for cleansers and liquid soap containing disinfectant. The concept being that by using these products containing disinfectant will help keep children safe from all diseases. I ca...n understand why Mums thinking these products must be good; we all want to keep our children safe. But my concern is what guarantee comes with these products? Will the constant use of disinfectant really protect our children? Disinfectant does kill germs. That is why they are used in hospitals where there is more infection. But in a home, providing there is a regular regime of keeping the house clean; it is very unlikely a child will catch some devastating disease. Children who do pick up dangerous viruses have come into contact with a carrier outside their home. Cleaning your children’s hands, when they leave a playground or play with other children; would surely be a better way of cutting down the chance of contagion. Any mother will know that from the moment a child is born they put things in their mouth. Children have been known to eat dirt and never show bad reactions to the experience. Actually a doctor will tell you, children playing in dirt and mixing with other children helps them build up immunity to germs and diseases. Many doctors think it is good for children to get such diseases as measles and mumps when they are young, because to get them when an adult is dangerous. Constantly cleaning a house with disinfectant doesn’t remove germs that will kill you, it removes bacteria, some of which can be helpful, and decreases your and your child’s immunity. Dr Sheryl van Nunen, Senior Staff Specialist in the Department of Clinical Immunology and Allergy at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and Clinical Associate Professor at the Sydney Medical School - Northern, University of Sydney recently in a radio interview said We are so clean we have no resistance. If this is the case why are we using so much disinfectant? Since I started working in the cleaning industry I learned to wash my hands more. I make a point of coming home from every excursion; and that could include visiting a friend or doing the shopping; and going straight to the bathroom to thoroughly wash my hands. Not with disinfectant, but with good old soap and hot water. Any germs I have touched while outside are removed and my hands are clean. If every child was taught to wash their hands after using the bathroom and prior to eating, it wouldn’t be necessary for children to be constantly subjected to disinfectant. I know my Mother always told me to wash my hands before eating, didn’t yours?

17.01.2022 Fire alarms are important so when there is a fault with one installed it could have devastating results. A Quell QP19010 Dual Sensor Smoke Alarm has been recalled. A simple mistake at the manufacturer of leaving a yellow protective cap on some of the alarms sensors has caused a recall of the product. If you purchased a new smoke alarm between September 2016 and April this year, check to see the brand. If it is made by Chubb Fire & Security trading as Quell, it could well be one of these alarms. Return it to where you purchased the item after the new alarm has been installed.

14.01.2022 Keeping air-conditioner filters clean Since more and more people have given up smoking cleaning air-conditioning vents and filters are a lot easier. I can remember watching an air-conditioning mechanic climbing up and removing the filters in an office where I worked. The filter was black with tar. He had to replace the filter. To clean it was a job for the factory. What they soaked it in I have no idea, but this mechanic was a regular visitor and my company was paying fo...Continue reading

14.01.2022 CLEANING BURNT POTS Hubby left the gas on under a stainless steel pot the other day. Thankfully it wasn’t ruined and because there was only water residue inside it was the water that dried out and caused burnt stains on the inside. I have seen cleaning programmes where they take pans with burnt food and clean them by placing a tablet of false teeth cleanser in the pot filled with water and allow the tablet to dissolve to lift the residue. In my case because the saucepan had... been empty it wasn’t quite the same type of problem. Where the water had obviously bubbled and dried out on the hot metal, there were brown stains. I attacked these with the scourer side of a scourer/sponge in the washing up water, but that didn’t have any affect. I then tried the stainless steel scourer which usually moves every mark, especially when I clean my stainless steel oven shelves. This again didn’t work, probably because the dried burn had stained the metal. It was then I took out the trusty cream cleanser. A small amount on the scourer side of the sponge/scourer, and a good scrub of the affected areas had the required results. Cream cleanser is a soft abrasive and with the assistance of the scourer it managed to penetrate the burn stain and completely remove it. Being stainless steel and the scourer being slightly softer, the pan wasn’t scratched. The saucepan was a good as new. Well not quite. Unfortunately this is the second time hubby has left the gas on under a saucepan and wouldn’t you know both times it has been the same pan. The metal has slightly discoloured where the pot had become overheated, but being stainless steel it is still usable. I do think the extra heat has changed the structure of the steel but the pan hasn’t changed shape. Stainless steel is a very useful metal for saucepans. It conducts the heat evenly across the surface and can be used either on a gas or electric stove. It is not good leaving the gas on under any metal pot which is empty, and if there is any hint of oil in the bottom it can cause a fire. If the pan is stainless steel a little cream cleanser will always help overcome the accident.

13.01.2022 Air-conditioners work hard to keep us cool or warm. When they are not working too well, check the filter.

13.01.2022 And yet another recall safety problem. Should you or anyone you know have purchased a Bodum Bistro Stainless Steel 2 slice toaster from Spotlight between August 2018 and February 2019 return it directly to the store. It is electrically unsafe. If attached to power there is a possibility of receiving an electric shock even though the the control lever is not triggered.

10.01.2022 And yet another safety problem I find it interesting how often products are made to keep small children safe that do not work. Another product that has recently been sold through Target is putting our small fry at risk. The item is a multi-purpose latch that is supposed to prevent children gaining access to cupboards and drawers. Made from plastic these safety latches may fail to work, unexpectedly allowing a child to open a door or drawer behind which are dangerous article...s or substances. As these latches have only recently been on the market - sold at Target between 11th July and 8th August this year, purchasers have been asked to stop using the latches and return them to the store of purchase. If you know of anyone who has installed these latches, please advise them of the danger.

10.01.2022 Although there have been no results from all the hard work, I have pleasure in reporting the final Reports seeking adoption by the United Nations to make 2020 the International Year of the Cleaner have been posted. What I thought would take only a few weeks has turned out to be six months. But still, each Ambassador at the UN has been posted the information and will now have a concept of why we need to improve hygiene on the planet and train more people in the art of cleani...ng. Hopefully something will come of my persistence and that a seed has been planted which will bear fruit. I am not sure what else I can do to generate more interest. But should something eventuate I will be rushing to take advantage of the opportunity. In the meantime. If you should get the chance to discuss this situation with anyone let them know about it. Hygiene over the years has been declining, and health standards are poor. We do need to encourage people to accept cleaners as the hygiene managers of the world and prove that regular and thorough cleaning will keep down disease and make the world a safer place to live in. Something we would all like to see.

06.01.2022 My pot wasn't quite as bad as this.

03.01.2022 I like to give my Facebook followers all sorts of information so thought this information could be of value. E.media regularly review products, and this one has been on Mattress Care. If you are thinking about upgrading your current mattress this information could be of use. Remember mattress manufacturers recommend a mattress be replaced once every five years. That is equivalent to 1,825 nights sleep. No wonder a mattress gets dints and bumps in it by then. ... Check out the review https://www.reviews.com/mattress/

01.01.2022 Mobile Toilets In these days of long haul travel, the requirements of unisex toilets with multiple uses are a necessity. Planes, coaches, trains, all have to provide facilities that are suitable for each gender and in most cases change tables for babies. Because these facilities are in moving objects, the removal of rubbish and putrescible matter have to be stored under the seating arrangement making less room. Also, because the small area is part of a large moving object, ...standing in the space is usually difficult. And this would be the main problem. Gentlemen aiming at the toilet to urinate quite often find it difficult even at home to keep their flow within the bounds of the toilet, without the added problem of being in a moving vehicle. Some ladies who are scared of getting germs take to squatting on the toilet to urinate, causing splash over. In a moving object this can be even worse. As one can imagine after several hours of use a unisex toilet can be a little unsavoury to walk in to. I’ve seen air hostesses try and keep toilets reasonably clean by picking up bits of paper that have been left on the floor and giving the sink surrounds a clean, but until the space is cleaned out professionally these facilities, as one progresses along the journey, are always a little on the nose. I was reminded of this problem the other week while taking a three hour coach trip. The driver requested everyone to sit when using the toilet. I have always found it hard to even stand in those small spaces as the vehicle lurches and sways, so to request everyone to sit when using the facility seems more than logical. But I wonder how many people take notice of the request. I am aware that as more and more unisex toilets being built in Europe, signs are being placed asking gentlemen to sit. And with every large outdoor event, toilets are no longer segregated. The rows and rows of toilets are for everyone to use, so once again they are unisex. Maybe these cabins should have similar signs. I am sure like me, you have been into a public toilet that has broken down because of a blockage, or some prior person has made a disgusting mess. Not so bad where there are rows of toilets, but if you are on a traveling vehicle somewhat more than a nuisance in that it limits the number of facilities available. What is the answer? Trying to teach people that they should leave the toilet and surrounding area in the condition it was found. That means picking up the little bit of toilet paper than tore off the roll and landed on the floor. It also means checking that when the toilet was flushed it worked properly. But mostly it means consideration of other people. Trying to keep the unisex toilets in a reasonable condition means when you have to go back to reuse the facility several hours later you will feel just as comfortable as you did on your first visit.
