25.01.2022 Shocking news..... In a 23-15 vote, the NSW Legislative Council voted to suspend the Leader of the Government, Don Harwin, due to the Berejiklian Government failing to produce documents explaining how it allocated $250 million in grants prior to the 2019 election and why it made those decisions. Such a decision has not occurred since 1998.... More than 95 per cent of this money went to Liberal and National held seats before the 2019 State election, a worse rort than the one perpetrated by Senator McKenzie on sports grants that saw her resign from the Federal Government. The decision makers here were the current, embattled Premier, her Deputy Premier and the former Local Government Minister. The fund started as a much smaller fund for amalgamated councils and of the 5% that made it to Labor sears, $10 million went to the Granville centre through a proper process. The fund then grew miraculously in size and scope and amazingly, Hornsby Council which wasn’t amalgamated was offered and received $90 million!
23.01.2022 Welcome to NSW Parliament Merrylands East Public School! This is the first school visit to NSW Parliament for any schools since the Covid19 restrictions. Great to have them back.
23.01.2022 Great (and overdue) news!
23.01.2022 Welcome to the next group of students from Merrylands East Public School who are visiting NSW Parliament today
22.01.2022 Thanks to Hindu Council Australia for bringing us together to celebrate Diwali at NSW Parliament last night. Due to Covid19, most Diwali festivals are cancelled so I’m so pleased that the Hindu council was able to adapt and still celebrate Diwali together. Let’s hope the Festival of Lights and the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil will be the turning point we need after such a challenging year!... Happy Diwali everyone!
21.01.2022 A wonderful result in Queensland!
21.01.2022 My office Christmas tree is up and Christmas is on the way!
20.01.2022 Twice this year I’ve cancelled all my engagements and worked from home waiting for Covid test results when I had a cold. The first took 4 days, the second 24 hours. I followed the Premier’s advice which she stated over and over again. One rule for her, another for the rest of us...
20.01.2022 Around 200 local homes and businesses in Granville and Westmead are being demolished to make way for the Metro West project. I’ve spoken to many of them who have been struggling to negotiate with the NSW Government for a year! Last week I spoke about their struggles in Parliament.
17.01.2022 Great to meet up with Mary and her neighbours in Westmead to celebrate our win in keeping their much needed bus stop. Unfortunately, there are now ridiculous new proposals to remove alternative bus stops on the 700 route so the fight continues....
16.01.2022 A lovely bbq to celebrate the success of the Club Merrylands U’14’s girls last weekend, who won their grand final 7-0. Thanks coach Roni and manager Siran for hosting everyone.
13.01.2022 Great to catch up with the Merrylands Chamber of Commerce at their AGM yesterday - it’s been a very challenging year for small businesses in our area. President Immanuel Selveraj has some great initiatives planned to promote networking, knowledge sharing and useful advice over the coming months.
13.01.2022 Congratulations Emad and the team from La Galette - the new store looks beautiful! The new store is at 64 Victoria Rd North Parramatta - Merrylands will miss you!
13.01.2022 Congratulations Pierre Esber on your 20 years of service as a councillor at City of Parramatta Pierre and I were both elected as Labor councillors in 1999 and served together until 2016 when the Liberal Government sacked councils including Parramatta, ahead of council amalgamations. Pierre has often bought his business and construction industry knowledge to council - finding ways to encourage rain water tanks; identifying massive potential savings in our use of electrical and plumbing contractors; and forcing better compliance with development consents.
12.01.2022 Appalling arrogance
11.01.2022 2020 has seen shonky products galore - check out the worst, according to CHOICE
11.01.2022 Locally less than 1 in 10 small businesses had any support from the NSW Government through the worst of Covid
11.01.2022 After many years, retirement village residents will have some certainty that village operators will sell their homes promptly when they move out. This is an important, overdue reform. As Shadow Minister for Consumer Protection, I've heard first hand how important this is. #RetirementVillagesAmendmentBill2020 #ShadowMinisterforConsumerProtection
05.01.2022 Great to visit the Parramatta Female Factory Friends with Shadow Minister for Environment and Heritage, Kate Washington MP
04.01.2022 Sydney Helicopters has been operating from Granville for 25 years. The NSW Government wants their site for the Metro West stabling yard but is providing little to support to relocate. Even though Sydney Helicopters spent over 3000 hours helping them fight bushfires last summer. On 9 News Sydney tonight with Chris Minns MP
03.01.2022 Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park need a direct transport link. Melrose Park and Wentworth Point are bursting with units but no public transport. Parramatta’s light rail will be another dud unless it connects to Sydney Olympic Park.
01.01.2022 Honoured to join the Merrylands RSL sub-branch in commemorating Remembrance Day today in Charles Mance Reserve. Charles Mance received many medals and honours, including the Legion d’honneur and a was a long term Merrylands resident. At the time of his passing, Charles was one of the last remaining WWI veterans and the last surviving member of the 22nd Battalion, 1st AIF. Due to Covid19 restrictions it was a much smaller gathering this year but just as significant - so pleased Hilltop Road Public School still participated with the school captains laying a wreath.
01.01.2022 The attack on the Auburn Gallipoli mosque is grotesque and unAustralian. Thanks for your words of support Jodi McKay MP Jihad Dib MP Lynda Voltz MP
