23.01.2022 https://www.facebook.com/antipovertyqld/ "Poverty is not the fault of the individual but the consequence of social issues. Economic downturns, lack of access to education, the rising cost of housing and cutting social services effects everyone in the community. The entire community needs to work together to fight poverty at its root cause. Anti-Poverty Network QLD will be holding a community day, working together with social workers, lawyers, advocates, local community member...s and other organisations all engaged in tackling poverty. We'll be providing free advice and guidance for anyone having issues with Centrelink, public/community housing, welfare rights, family and criminal defence law, drug and alcohol issues, family/individual counseling, migrant support, financial management as well as free medical and dental services. We can help find out what services are available to support you, as well as helping with accessing those services and ensure your rights are respected and fought for. Free dental checks for kids on the day, free food bank, and a free community lunch will also be provided. All welcome!"

Economic downturns, the lack of access to education, the rising cost of housing and increased cutting of social services affects everyone in our community. We need stand together and fight back against poverty, by addressing its root causes and by providing for one another. On July 28th, Anti-Poverty Network QLD will be holding our second ever community day in Logan! We're bringing together social workers, lawyers, advocates, unions, local community members and other organisations all engaged in tackling poverty. We'll be providing free advice and guidance for anyone having issues with Centrelink, mental health, workplace rights and other areas as we confirm more individuals and groups!"
21.01.2022 "An Aboriginal housing organisation in Toowoomba ran into financial difficulties. They owned and managed 37 properties that were rented out very cheaply to vulnerable Aboriginal families. The housing org has apparently defaulted on its debts and the homes are now being sold at auction on 2 Feb. The tenants were only told about this just before Christmas, when For Sale signs started going up outside their properties. Most of these properties are home to large families and mult...iple generations. If these homes are sold to the private sector, we're potentially going to see between 100 and 200 Aboriginal people made homeless. The Queensland Greens are calling on the State Government to buy these houses so that the tenants can remain in their homes. It's important to understand the many barriers that Aboriginal tenants would face trying to find new homes in the private rental sector (particularly around Toowoomba). On top of the usual problems such as high rent, there's still a lot of racism and class-based discrimination. A lot of the tenants are quite elderly and have lived in these properties for decades."
17.01.2022 "We all deserve to feel safe and in control of our life, and to be able to access the healthcare we need. Right now archaic laws from 1899 deny Queenslanders that right but this October we can change that. Before parliament holds its historic vote let's overwhelm them with a huge display of public support, and the biggest pro-choice march Queensland has ever seen."
16.01.2022 "On Wednesday 6 December, US President Donald Trump announced the United States will recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Trump's deliberate provocation was intended to legitimise the further use of violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza and to prop up Israeli apartheid. For over 70 years, Palestinians have been resisting occupation and oppression. Now more than ever we must join Palestine in solidarity and oppose Israel apartheid, including the ...demolition and seizure of Palestinian lands, illegal settlements, subjugation and repression of the Palestinian people, backed to the hilt by the racist Trump regime. In recent days, protestors in Palestine have been met with live ammunition from the IDF, Israeli airstrikes and several people have been killed and hundreds wounded. All supporters of Palestine and human rights must urgently stand in solidarity with Palestine and against Israel's war crimes. Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine! #HandsoffPalestine"
11.01.2022 This is a project I have been involved with on and off since it began a year ago. It started as just a sausage sizzle for some of the homeless folk living around Aspley, but it has expanded beyond that. Now we have a retired chef who kindly donates his time and services to the project. Of course food is important to living, but the point of Street light is also emotional connection. Instead of just giving food to people, we sit down and eat a meal with them, and let them talk about anything going on in their lives. They can share as much or as little as they like, it's just a place to come to feel loved and listened to (as well as fed).
08.01.2022 "Anti-Poverty Network QLD is a grassroots community organisation, working as support network for people in poverty and on welfare - run by people in poverty and on welfare. We're working in the Greater Brisbane region, providing advocacy to welfare recipients and acting as a support network and a voice against government attacks on the poor. No matter where the government attacks us and tries to deprive of us of our dignity, we want to be there at the front line; the poorest ...in our society fighting back. We're hosting our second ever fundraising gig on the 14th of April to raise funds for our second community day in Logan. We want to bring services and organisations together to provide help for those who need it. We want to give out a free food bank, free lunches, free dental checks, free advocacy and free advice, all in one location for the hardest done by in our society. Come along on April the 14th and drink, dance and celebrate with us, and help us raise funds to continue fighting against poverty!" http://apnqld.org/donate https://www.facebook.com/antipovertyqld/
