25.01.2022 Kubirri Aged Care plus Centre in Mossman, QLD is in its final stages of interior selections for the Salvation Army. The exceptionally talented interior designers Gilmore ID are on task for completion...........The concept design for Kubirri Aged Care Plus Centre is influenced by the surrounding landscape of tropical rain forest and its intimate cycles, taking inspiration for a cool and calming colour palette. this will be contrasted against materiality and textures which are developed from the colouration of the local Aboriginal art from the Kuku Yalanji people featured with the eco-tourism centre and cave paintings along the Mossman Gorge.

25.01.2022 O’Shea House is a three bedroom seaside residence that represents to the client coastal living without boundaries. With a 13.5 meter, street frontage it opens to the street portraying a welcoming and engaging façade to community and its environment. The direct connection to the street revealing the internal embraces the original 1950’s beach cottages ethos that surrounds the house.

22.01.2022 JMC Architects were engaged as the Principal Consultant for all stages from schematic design through to practical completion. The schematic design stage involved value-added collaboration with the client and stakeholders for this prime site in Mooloolaba. A collaborative approach produced plans that provided an additional 5 units to the initial project brief. The site is surrounded by residential housing and units so the juxtaposition of internal spaces and fenestration, scr...eens and sunshades were carefully considered in order to maintain a high level of amenity to the neighboring sites as well as the occupants. The project scope involved the design and documentation of 20 x 1 Bed Apartments for a traditional procurement model. The project provides today, 6 Platinum, 8 Gold, and 6 Silver contemporary beach style apartments for social housing. The contractors Murphy Builders were outstanding in their level of professionalism and delivery of this high quality product for the client. See more

21.01.2022 The Gordonvale Fire and Rescue Station is an important piece of civic infrastructure, located west of the township alongside the Gillies Highway. Our engagement was to design and document a modern fire and rescue facility that would replace the non-functioning fire station that had been built in 1950 in the town centre. 19.01.2022 As architects, the influences of environment and climate are at the forefront of our design process, and not just for private residences. Environmental sustainability is high on the list of priorities for government and the development of public buildings as well. And understandably so. It is a key consideration for infrastructure investment in addition to the usability and comfort for those working and learning in those facilities. In our latest article, we explore sustainability in context of schools and the educational landscape. #education #architecture #farnorthqueensland

19.01.2022 Another design to construct project has recently been completed, this time for Queensland Rail. With QR pre-qualification for environment and safety, sustainability for the Portsmith Shed project was a key focus that included repurposing the existing paint shed structure to extend and raise the roofline. Thank you to our construct team Hutchinson Builders and consultants GHD Group, Arup. #architecture #architect #cairns #farnorthqueensland

19.01.2022 The Gordonvale Fire Station commenced with a flora and fauna assessment due to the site being located within two kilometres of a high risk area containing Endangered, Vulnerable or Near Threatened (EVNT) species; the assessment concluded the development was unlikely to disturb such species and as such the project proceeded to detailed design. Not only were we able to deliver all the project’s objectives, it was completed ahead of time! 19.01.2022 COVID-19 has impacted everyone and everything - how we live, work and socialise. If there’s a silver-lining, it’s the opportunity to reset our thinking, proactively problem solve and explore new boundaries of design, sustainability, technologies and resources to create a ‘better’ normal. To find out how we are exploring the boundaries of design for this new reality, while enhancing the functionality, aesthetic and indeed, value of private residence, read more in our latest article here. #JMcArchitects #Architect #FarNorthQueensland

08.01.2022 At JMC our design services extends to refurbishments and fit outs. This recently completed finishes board is all about ‘zones’ in a large commercial open plan space. Contrasting but complimentary colour schemes are played out in the carpet flooring, wall coverings and furniture. Accent colours in zones and softer subtle colours to more generalised areas articulate and define the zones for their uses; quiet reading and reflection, play and learning, learning and collaboration. The model is ‘rainforest meets the sea’. Not all the elements can be shown on this board - we will keep you posted with construction diary photos along the way.

05.01.2022 O’Shea House: The cheerful and balanced forms in elevation take its cue from the surrounding topography. The strong linear roof mirrors the horizon line of the ocean and the playful vertical steel and timber elements respond to the prominent stick like palms separating the house and street to the ocean. #Architects #FarNorthQueensland #CoastalLiving

03.01.2022 While every project involves collaboration between various stakeholders, for the Kubirri Aged Care Centre, the coming together of diverse groups to deliver a ‘home in a garden’ for the residents is nothing short of a triumph for the Mossman community. The very existence of this innovative aged care facility is due to the dedication, perseverance and significant investment of The Salvation Army Aged Care, Douglas Shire Council, Mossman District Nursing Home Committee and the ...Queensland Government. Here we share how it was achieved. #architect #architecture #agedcare #mossman #cairns
