25.01.2022 This week some members of the Port Hedland Historical Society went across to Marble Bar to do some research on the Port Hedland to Marble Bar railway. The rail... service ran from 1911-1951 moving people and goods to the much bigger town of Marble Bar. Sadly there is little evidence of the railways existence but we did find some The Port Hedland to Marble Bar railway is the current project of the PH Historical Society as 2021 is the 70 year since its closure and the 110th since opening.
25.01.2022 Have you ever wondered about the street names in Port and South Hedland and who or what they were named after? Just ask the Port hedland Historical Society via... this Facebook page and we will do our best to answer your query. In the meantime here are a few answers Bayman Street - Charles Bayman was a respected tradesman who built the original Post Office in 1910 and Bangers House. Brand Street - After Sir david Brand, former Premier of WA Traine Crescent - Thomas Traine was a businessman who was the lessee of the first jetty in 1899and who built the Port Hedland. Hotel in Wedge Street. Mauger Place- (pronounced Major) turned the first sod of soil for the POrt Hedland to Marble Bar railway.

17.01.2022 Agnes and I were featured in this weeks North West Telegraph with our book promotion storytelling session at South Hedland library. If you haven’t got your copy of Santa’s visit to Port Hedland you can now pick up your copy at The Lucky Charm South Hedland.
16.01.2022 My first book ABC around Port Hedland was published not long after I had finished a 23 year career in Early childhood and had found that many of the childrens books in school libraries were not relevant to young children growing up in Port Hedland. So an alphabet book that features S for Salt not Snow, and T for Truck not L for Lorry, because this is what Port hedland children see and can relate to. Teaching the alphabet at home? This could be a new teaching resource and then take the ABC tour around town to spot the pics in the book. A great little book that serves as a memory of your time in Port Hedland when you move on. $15 . PM me if you are interested in this book

16.01.2022 It was a pleasure to work with this pair of lovebirds to personalise a simple wedding for them. They came to me in February before the social and physical distancing with COVID 19 started. Congratulations.
15.01.2022 Happy Easter, Enjoy an Easter story I wrote and illustrated (poorly) for my Grandchildren in 2015. Children get so many eggs from everyone now so I thought I would give them something that lasted a bit longer. Self published on Blurb, now called Bookright. Enjoy

12.01.2022 It is still exciting that I have couples that had booked their wedding ceremony long before CoronaVirus was a thing and they are determined to get married on their chosen date and work within all the new laws about how many people can attend. Just 5 the couple, the witnesses and the celebrant. Love is love. The good thing is that the ceremony can be live streamed to family and friends that are not present so they can still see the love and joy of the couple as they mak...e their vows. Then if the couple wish to have the all the bells and whistles celebration later they can have a Commitment ceremony where it is just like a wedding ( but they are already married ) with bridesmaids etc and then have the reception they originally planned.
11.01.2022 This year I have been working with a gorgeous self taught illustrator- Agnes Ponco, to create a childrens Christmas book for children of Port Hedland and the Pilbara. Agnes has done an amazing job to bring the book alive and we are almost finished and ready to send to the printer. The title if the book is Santas visit to Port Hedland. ... Contact me or Agnes to preorder your copy. No price available yet
10.01.2022 I believe there were more than 30 attendees at the candidate information session on Monday night. This makes for an interesting election as there are probably many more that are playing their cards close to their chests before nominations close next week. Council elections used to be held annually and there was much jockeying and underhandedness that went before the actual day. In 1974 one of the candidates was murdered in Wedgefield on the night before the elections thus... causing the election to be postponed. This story and many others written by my father Jack Haynes is in my book Jack of all Trades - Council Carry on. Just $25 - it is a good read to get an understanding of how/why some things are the way they are in Port Hedland. Pm me to find out where you can get your copy.
09.01.2022 I am enjoying isolation. I have had plenty of time to do crafts and writing books. This is a few stained glass suncatchers I made over the weekend. These are for sale now or they will be at markets once we are open for business again. Pm to come around and check out a suncatcher for Mothers Day.

08.01.2022 This morning I ordered a wreath for ANZAC Day in a weeks time, and I will take it to the War Memorial after we have our Driveway ANZAC dawn service. So different to any other ANZAC day that has ever been commemorated in Australia, ever. ANZAC Day has always been the most important National Day in my family, with generations of serving members. As such we were all actively involved in organising and participating on the days, in years gone by. ... In Port Hedland, in the 60s, 70s and 80s when we had many veterans living amongst us they came together to remember those who did not come home but also celebrated that they did survive. After many drinks, there were many shenanigans among the vets by the end of the day. My dad, Jack Haynes was heavily involved in some of those shenanigans and captured them in stories which I have put together in my book Jack of all Trades - Remembering Soldiers Lost. Contact me for a copy to read Port Hedland did ANZAC Day back then. Just $15 and I can deliver to you for some isolation ANZAC day weekend reading
08.01.2022 I hope you all had a nice quiet Easter and caught up with family and friend via FaceTime, Zoom and Skype etc. I took advantage of the cooler weather to do a little bit of crafting, making copper foil suncatchers. I chose to make Angels to give to my friends and family as Guardian Angels to keep the healthy and safe. On Monday we spent at the beach on the Spoilbank where I was really impressed with Port Hedlanders social distancing with cars equally spaced about 50 metres.
07.01.2022 We know your international passport may stay locked away for awhile, so we have a local passport for local travel. Purchase from the PH Visitors Centre before you head off on your Pilbara trip. Get your first stamp from us.
07.01.2022 Sick of staying at home but not too sure of where to go and what to do in Port Hedland and the Pilbara? Why not pop into the Visitors Centre and talk to the lo...vely staff for some information for free things to see and do in Port Hedland. Support our small business by having brunch and then go Sunday driving. See you soon. See more
05.01.2022 Celebrants can perform ceremonies for many life events and most of the ceremonies are joyous events. Marriages, Renewal of Vows, anniversaries, graduations and Baby Naming Ceremonies to name a few. What is a Baby Naming Ceremony? A Baby Naming ceremony is usually held to celebrate the arrival and naming of a new baby. Mostly they are held at the same time as a 1st Birthday Party. A Celebrant performs a non-religious Ceremony where the child is welcomed into the family a...nd the wider community. The parents make promises, grandparents may also be involved and good friends or family members nominated as Life Guardians. These sort of celebrations have been around in different cultures for centuries. There are no legalities involved with Baby Naming ceremony, they are more just a recognition of the gift of life and love and the miracle of birth. These special events are being celebrated more and more as a party rather than just a Ceremony, although many rituals are still performed. Sand Ceremonies, the lighting of candles, wish books and trees, balloon releases, rose petal blessing, fairy dust blessing or the writing of a poem about the child. I would love to help you organise your Baby Naming Ceremony after the COVID19 restricitons have eased, so feel free to call and have a chat.
03.01.2022 ANZAC Driveway Dawn Service and gunfire breakfast and then to the War Memorial to lay a wreath. Lest we Forget
03.01.2022 As I was preparing for ANZAC day this Saturday, I bought out the framed photos of my father in the Airforce in WW2 and Grandfather as he enlisted to go to Gallipoli. My Grandfathers enlistment papers day he was 20 when he signed up, he listed his next of kin as his mother Mrs Haynes. Can you imagine putting that on a document now. You have to give so much identification to get loyalty card at a supermarket. My Grandfather John Harold Haynes was going to the other d...ie of the world to fight for his country. I am proud of the fact that my mother was also in the Airforce as an instrument mechanic but unfortunately the family do not have any photos of her in her uniform. My daughter proudly wears her medals each year and will do so again this year in her driveway dawn service
03.01.2022 I have had a couple of queries about how I go about writing a book, getting a book published, Where to start etc. There is a book inside of everyone it is said. What better time to start to get that story out than during this time of enforced time at home. A few brief ideas to get you started. You may have been delaying starting for years. I did. I had the idea and it took 10 years before I started. Start with dot points Add your ideas when they come to you... Spend at least 15 minutes each week building on it. I self published my books which meant that the cost and marketing is up to me as opposed to an agent where, should they agree to print your book, pay the printing and marketing and you get a small part of the earnings. There is always digital publishing where your book is an ebook and can be purchased by anyone around the world by amazon etc. Have a go. Looking forward to seeing many more Port Hedland writers and authors printed and published.
02.01.2022 How nice was that rain last night? we got 4 mm in our rain gauge. This is a great start to the vege growing season. and with the temps coming down we can just about get our seeds/seedlings in. I can hear the little birds chirping outside as well so they must have enjoyed it too. Without having to attend meetings and coming home too tired our gardens have never had so much attention. ... I think Autumn has arrived. yay
