18.01.2022 Rural Revisited ... The Nuggetty Project: A glimpse of contemporary life in a small rural community. ‘Nuggetty and Beyond’ A 2015/16 collaborative project with ...Nuggetty Land Protection Group to record the social, farming and landscape history of the Nuggetty area. #3 .. Ross Dohnt: Ross Dohnt is a 2nd generation farmer whose parents Ern and Phyllis bought ‘Woodside’ farm at Neereman in 1947. His father came from St Arnaud area but his mother’s family had been at nearby Bells Swamp for 3 generations. Originally ‘Woodside’ was a mixed farm, however, today Ross breeds Merinos and cross-bred ewes for wool and fat lamb production. He also concentrates on growing barley and oats for crop. Ross is a qualified wool classer who also works around the district as a rouseabout with at least eight farmers in the Nuggetty area. In the past he was a shearer and estimates that he has shorn around 100,000 sheep in this lifetime. Above info sourced from NLPG Footnote: ‘Rosco’ as he is locally known, is also a Baringyup Fire Brigade veteran of almost 50 years serving the community as a volunteer firefighter. He has held numerous positions during this time including Lieutenant, Secretary, DGO (Deputy Group Officer) GCO (Group Communications Officer) and GO (Group Officer) He currently holds the postion as one of the DGO’s with the Strathloddon Group. Also of note was his football achievement. During the 1970’s he was a 3 time premiership player with the Maldon Football Club, the only player to do so. This year also brings another milestone, 50 years working in Barry McKnight’s shearing shed, 15 of those shearing and the rest as a rouseabout (ongoing). Now that’s a great achievement! #ruralrevisited #fromthearchive #nuggettyproject #farming #sheepandcroppingproperty #rurallife #neeraman #nuggettyranges #localfarmer #socialfamilyhistory #farmingcommunity #saltoftheearthfarmers #contemporaryfarminglife #shearing #merinosheep #documentaryphotographer @rmwilliamsoutbackmagazine

14.01.2022 In this year of the Coronavirus pandemic, only a small number of RSL members gathered at the Cenotaph in Castlemaine to pay tribute to our servicemen and women. A sobering experience as the Ode was read and the Last Post played to a deserted street devoid of people.Following tradition, bugler Robert Thompson once again delivered the Last Post, this year in isolation at the Peace cairn at Nuggetty near Maldon. 'They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall ...not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.' ...... Lest We Forget ......
