25.01.2022 Northern Theatre Company are holding a preview season before the ARKfest Short Play Festival, and this will be the debut for "A Certain Age" and "More Than A Headstone". They're rounding out the evening with an old favourite, "A Formal Tradition", so if you're in Melbourne, head along and support them!

23.01.2022 My bio for the Madwomen Monologues Looking forward to visiting Melbourne the first weekend of November for this event

21.01.2022 Four of my scripts have been shortlisted for Short+Sweet Sydney - "28 Down, Eight Letters", "Holidazed", "Swingers" and "More Than A Headstone". 175 scripts from over 600 submissions have made this shortlist that directors can choose from if they're looking for a script, so hopefully one of mine will go on to be performed It was extra exciting to find fellow Townsville playwrights Catherine McKernan Doris and Michael Sams in the shortlist - that's a total of 8 scripts from Townsville (and submissions are open to international writers too!) Yay!

21.01.2022 I'm excited to announce that "28 Down, Eight Letters" will be performed in Short+Sweet Theatre Festival South India (Chennai) 12 - 15 July. Director Krishna Kumar. S has kindly sent through some rehearsal photos of Vinod Anand and Shakila Iqbal Arun. Great to hear they're enjoying the script and rehearsals!

20.01.2022 Chookas to the cast & crew taking "28 Down, Eight Letters" to stage in Short+Sweet South India this week!

19.01.2022 We had a great night at the Townsville Theatre Community Gala dinner last night, and I received the Best Local Playwright Award for Displaced. Thanks to everyone who was involved in the script development and production, and those who voted for me.

14.01.2022 Nice little write up for The Hills Players Inc Funny Aussie Shorts, opening this Friday night in Brisbane. Chookas for a great season!

13.01.2022 Congratulations to Krishna Kumar.S and the cast for being awarded Play of the Day for 28 Down, Eight Letters in Short+Sweet South India, and thanks for this lovely feedback: "Thank you, Julie Johnston, for a fantastic play. Audience loved it, lapped it, admired the quiet strength of the script... few had a lump in their throat, by their own personal admission to me day before as well as tonight." - Krishna Kumar. S

12.01.2022 Chookas to Northern Theatre Company in Melbourne who start their run of Three Plays by Julie Johnston tonight. This will be the debut performances for "A Certain Age" and "More Than a Headstone". Have fun! Julie Johnston

12.01.2022 Chookas to everyone involved in the ARKfest Short Play Festival, especially Northern Theatre Company who are performing my plays "A Certain Age" and "More Than A Headstone". Have a great weekend of theatre!

12.01.2022 "Bill Bloody Clinton" has made the shortlist for the Madwomen Monologues 2017 in Melbourne, hopefully it gets selected and is performed in the season later this year

11.01.2022 Brisbane friends might like to head along to support The Hills Players Inc Funny Annual Shorts at the end of this month, where they are performing two of my 10min comedies, "Holidazed" and "Hairdressers' Code". I've seen a few of Hugh O'Brien's plays performed and I am always impressed by the cleverness of his writing, so I am pretty chuffed to see my two shorts hanging next to his on the flyer! Sounds like it will be a fun night :)

10.01.2022 I love seeing rehearsal photos! Thanks Northern Theatre Company for sharing the fun as you rehearse for the ARKfest Short Play Festival next month.

08.01.2022 Chookas to Theatre iNQ for opening night of "Gert and Bess" by Barry Dickins, directed by Terri Brabon and performed by Arminelle Fleming and Kellie Esling. I was honoured to be at the preview last night, and the Q&A afterwards with Barry was inspiring. It's a beautiful, enthralling play with a gorgeous set, and they have already sold out the season and added an extra show!

08.01.2022 I feel so proud, and a little emotional, to see this photo of "A Certain Age" being performed in ARKfest Short Play Festival this morning, and I really wish I could have been there to see it as it is a script I feel quite passionate about. Thank you to Northern Theatre Company and this beautiful, brave actor for reminding everyone that women are beautiful just as they are. Congratulations for making it through the heats and best of luck in the final this afternoon! "When ...a baby is born, we all see such perfection. Every fingernail, lashexactly as it is meant to be. We smile at the naked body of a small child running by, their cute little bottom, the endearing gap between their teeth, the strands of hair too wild to tame. You tell us to love every inch of the child’s body, to see past any imperfection and notice only the pure beauty. So I want to know, at what point, and why, do you suddenly demand that same body becomes anything less?" See more

06.01.2022 "28 Down, Eight Letters" is jet setting again, this time to Kentucky, USA! It will be included in the Middlesborough Little Theatre Evening Of One Acts in September, and I love that proceeds from this event go towards a scholarship fund for high school students active in the community, particularly in drama. Thanks Paula, Shawn and Lisa for choosing this script and your enthusiasm so far, enjoy the rehearsals!

05.01.2022 Excited to be notified today that "Swingers" has been selected for performance in Short +Sweet Sydney 2018! The news was made even sweeter when I found out my fellow Townsville playwrights Catherine McKernan Doris and Michael Sams had their plays selected as well!

05.01.2022 The Hills Players Inc are quite obviously having fun with Hairdressers' Code, look at that hairdo! If you're in Brisbane you can catch Funny Aussie Shorts again next weekend.

03.01.2022 Flying the QLD flag with two scripts, "A Certain Age" and "More Than A Headstone", shortlisted in the inaugural ARKfest Ten Minute Play Festival to be held in the Yarra Ranges next March. Hopefully one will be selected by a director for performance in the festival. Theatre groups have until the 26th November to register and choose a play from this shortlist, so if you're in the area head over to their page and check out the information. Thanks ARKfest for supporting new work!

03.01.2022 Thanks Chris Boek (director), Jacqui Essing (actor) and Baggage Productions for bringing "Bill Bloody Clinton " to life in the Madwomen Monologues 2017! Loved it
