25.01.2022 My word for 2021 is HUMOUR. Growing up, there was a lot of Blackadder, Only Fools & Horses, Mr Bean and Monty Python movies in my home. My Dad Jimmy and my brothers couldn’t get enough and are still able to recite all the one-liners (‘Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition’ is regularly trotted out). While my family was howling with laughter, I sat stony-faced because I didn’t find those shows that funny, and worried I was a bit odd for being out of step. Over the yea...rs, I’ve discovered that of course..I do have a sense of humour (everyone does!). I just needed to unearth what made me laugh. For the record, I’m a fan of female comics like Amy Schumer and Katherine Ryan who do observational comedy, blue comedy, sketch comedy and insult comedy about relationships and every-day life. Nowadays, I use lots of light-hearted humour in my ceremonies because even though weddings are essentially about romance, there needs to a balance to make them engaging and memorable - I enjoy bringing the light and the shade (sometimes lots of shade if the couple give me permission to go to town on them!) In my meetings with my couples, I listen carefully. The jokes they make and what makes them laugh reveal a lot about them, and I use this to inform my approach to their ceremony. I’m always looking to grow as a person (self-help book junkie here) and in my business (that’s why I hang out with this funny fucker Holymatrimonty - Young, Fun, Marriage Celebrant). So.... it’s time to get out of my rut and try some new things. I’m hoping a healthy dose of humour will improve my ceremony writing skills AND will help me get through whatever this year throws at me. With a new baby, and a fully booked wedding schedule, I’m going to need some laughs to keep my stress levels low and my mood upbeat. I’m looking for recommendations to intentionally mix up my comedy intake. So please hit me up with your favourite comedy tv shows, stand-ups, podcasts, memes, websites, social media pages, journalism websites etc that I should check out: the more varied the better all genres welcome. 23.01.2022 If you love a natural colour palette and enjoy wood, lace and hessian, then you are probably considering a rustic themed wedding. For that, you are going to need a barn! This list is a great place to start if you want a barn venue in the Hunter Valley. It contains several of my FAVOURITE venues including The Woodhouse Wollombi , Moravia Park, Albion Farm Gardens, Redleaf, Ben Ean

20.01.2022 Stressed? Take a break and watch this beaver eat his lunch.

17.01.2022 I'm thrilled to get so many wonderful reviews......... but do you know what I also get? So many wonderful EMAILS from couples after their wedding. Here is a behind the scenes look at a side of my business not often shared - an email I got from last Saturdays' couple: the gorgeous Emily & Nic, just a few days after their wedding in Swansea. ... "Hi Julie, Thank you so much again for everything. All of our guests kept commenting on how incredible our ceremony was and how bloody good you were!! We couldn’t be more grateful. The reception was incredible. We think way better than if it was our previous plan. It was the perfect relaxed vibe we were going for! We shall look forward to getting our certificate when we get back from our honeymoon! Also we look forward to following your name change checklist, thank you! Here is a link to the sneak peak album our photographer Caitlin has sent us. We will absolutely send you through the album link when we have them all back :) You’re more than welcome to share our vows with your future couples - it was their examples that helped us get in the vibe for ours so would absolutely love to pay to forward to others! We will absolutely leave a review (1000 stars). We are glad you enjoyed our little gift to you and your husband and future little one. You are at the top of our list for future baby naming day ;) Love, Em & Nic xx Fab Photo by Caitlin Schokker Photographer & Filmmaker #happycouplehappycelebrant #celebrantloveletters #newcastlecelebrant #lakemacquariecelebrant

17.01.2022 I'm just doing a bit of research for a ceremony. The groom is a big South Park fan. Thanks to Dann The Celebrant Man for pointing me the right direction. HIs suggestion was.... If you need to talk about COVID19 restrictions make sure everyone has their chin diaper GOLD

16.01.2022 The much-anticipated, much-loved BABY arrived without a hitch and he is thriving. Me, on the other hand, I’m sleep deprived (but happy!) I hope I didn’t alarm anyone with my lack of an announcement post. My hubby isn’t a fan of social media, so it’s likely I won’t be posting any photos of our son here while we figure out how to raise a child in the era of social media. For now, I’m following the lead of Gigi Hadid and won’t be posting a photo of his face on my feed. M...aybe I’ll just sneak one in, of the back of his cute head. Or maybe I’ll cave against my husband’s wishes and start spamming everyone. I'd probably get away with it as he isn’t even on Insta Instead, I’ll post a selection of incredible photos of my pregnancy belly which were taken by my talented friend Katy from @ropeandpulley. She made me feel like a goddess: the epitome of beauty, love, sexuality, motherhood and fertility. It was a very empowering way to finish my pregnancy. @ropeandpulley See more

15.01.2022 I got this fabulous long review from Emily & Bill that I've got two major issues with. 1. My head won't fit through the door anymore 2. I'm worried about how I'm going to fit all this amazing-ness onto ONE Instagram tile!

14.01.2022 Carbon Positive Australia is the new name for the Carbon Neutral Charitable Fund. For the last 5 years, I've been donating to them EVERY time I take a new booking, helping me to offset my business carbon footprint by planting trees and revegetating degraded land. 13.01.2022 HISTORY LESSON I have a lot of empathy for the plight for the Aboriginal peoples. As an Irish person, I know all too well the effects of British imperialism. Before the English colonised my country, the Irish people lived a semi-nomadic life, spoke little or no English, had no loyalty to the Crown, and generally rebuffed any claim held over them by the British monarchy.... The British referred to us as being ‘a rude and savage people’ and ‘a degenerate race’. The first British Law enacted in Ireland specifically banned the use of the Irish language. And so began the English government’s desire to wipe out the unique Irish culture. From the twelfth century on, the English did everything in their power to make the Irish more ‘English’, including teaching them tiddlywinks, making them eat Yorkshire pudding and, when all else failed . taking their lives. The parallel lines are easy to draw. It pains me to see the degradation of any Indigenous culture. Today I chose to celebrate Australia Day by cooking with an indigenous Australian tree plant used for 40,000 years by Aboriginals: lemon myrtle picked from my front garden. #australiaday #indigenousculture #alwayswasalwayswillbe #invasionday #survivalday #lemonmyrtle #irishhistory #sheaintmyqueen

12.01.2022 Ding - Notification. I've got a new review. I get goosebumps with anticipation. It's from Emily & Nic. The last couple I married before giving birth.

11.01.2022 HEY SUGAR A beautiful bride of mine Kathryn (see for yourself how god-damn gorgeous she is) has recently moved back to Newy after living in Brisbane and she has brought her cake-making business with her. Hallelujah! She is one very talented creative. For years I have been drooling over her baked creations and wishing I lived closer so I could get my greedy paws on her sugary goodness. ... Kathryn is the sister of Max the owner of Miss Mays Picnics What a talented family of food lovers. I want to be invited to one of their 'casual' bring-a-plate dinners ;) Could you imagine?! Valentine's Day is just around the corner I'll be dropping some major hints to hubbie that he can pre-order a box of treats now, in time for delivery next week. 10.01.2022 Surprise Gift from Fleurette Aromatherapy, a wonderful Hunter Valley based Company: so unexpected, so thoughtful, so generous - very much appreciated.

07.01.2022 Like many couples, Emily & Tom faced a tough decision when Covid restrictions limited their guest numbers to 20. They decided to go ahead and get married with minimal guests, using most of their original vendors with the addition of LIVE STREAMING videography ...... The best part is, they decided to bring the whole team back together in 2021 to have ANOTHER ceremony and a big party. How special to have two wedding celebrations?! ... Andy did a great job on pulling together their highlights video. I love how he interviewed them in the morning and used what they said about their first impressions of each other and combined that with their personalised vows to give the video maximum emotional impact. It hepls that their vows pack a punch. The couple plan on saying their vows again this year but they've reserved the right to tweak them. They'll be a little older and hopefully a little wiser, and a little further into their marriage by then. Honestly though, I don't think they need to change a thing, they were that good. 03.01.2022 I’m about to undergo a dramatic change.I’m getting ready to become a parent! I’ve been focusing a lot on the labour and the few weeks afterwards. I’ve heard a tonne of stories about the pain of childbirth and ensuing sleepless nights. I’m keen to find out what my birth story will be and wonder how I’ll juggle running my business while caring for a newborn. I’ve been planning as much as I can but have no idea how it’s actually going to pan out. What I know for certain is tha...t I have the support of my incredible husband and an amazing network of friends and family who will keep me buoyant through the challenges. There is another shift happening too. Something a bit deeper, a bit harder to articulate. I’m realising my whole world is about to change. Motherhood here I come!!! Thank you to the talented Rhys from Hungry Hearts Co for documenting this special time in my life.

01.01.2022 Welcome! If you’re new to my page, take a minute to watch this short video about about me and how I work.
