24.01.2022 International Men’s Day November 19th. Men often appear to be superheroes but they’re human- just like women and children are. Men need support too but often don’t ask for it. I wish for men to take pride in self-care and if at any time you feel that you need support please reach out. Talk to your family, friends, a counsellor or doctor. ... In Australia you can call Mensline on 1300 789 978 who can assist. 20.01.2022 There is a reason why I gift a journal when I first meet a new client. Journaling can help improve mental and physical wellbeing, financial security, career advancement, relationship harmony, self esteem, boost positivity + creativity, and much more. But don’t just take my word for it - it has been studied and scientifically validated: Effective journaling is a journaling practice that helps you meet your goals or improves your quality of life (Positive Psychology 2019).... Journaling helps control your symptoms and improve your mood by: Helping you prioritize problems, fears, and concerns. Tracking any symptoms day-to-day so that you can recognize triggers and learn ways to better control them (University of Rochester Medical Centre, 2020). You can paint your ideal life picture in it, create vision boards, maps, venn diagrams, set and review periodic goals, write letters of forgiveness, gratitude bombs - anything. Try this magic for yourself. #selfcare #journaling #putitinwriting #wellbeing #mentalhealth #success #julienovaknaturopath #dreams #goals #gratitude #positivity #productivity #creative #art #love #write #drawing #magic Ackerman, 2019. 83 Benefits of Journalling for Depression, Anxiety and Stress. https://positivepsychology.com/benefits-of-journaling/ accessed 21/07/2020 University of Rochester Medical Centre, 2020. 20.01.2022 Cute little fella demonstrating down dog on his mat. Yoga kept me sane and in shape this year, I don’t know what I’d have done without it - or my pal. What keeps you grounded and strong?
19.01.2022 Expectations are not quite being met for many of us right now. We don't want to complain but there is a sense of loss in the air in this time of change. We all know of someone who has lost something very valuable to them, loved ones, livelihoods, plans, safety, education, comfort and well being. It's not even about right or wrong - it just is. I hope you have the time to honour your feelings. ... 19.01.2022 Your external and internal environments often mirror each other. Clearing your physical space can help clear your mind. And we all know that too many emails can be time-wasting and fill us with overwhelm and dread. So as part of the lifestyle and environment detox use the day to unsubscribe from email lists you no longer read, and unfollow pages that no longer suit you, or that make you unhappy. Delete old emails, throw out old cosmetics in the bathroom, old food in the kit...chen and make the most of your home space. A clean car and wardrobe can also feel so luxurious and you can pass on clothing and items that you no longer use to a new home. Try a quick lifestyle and environment detox today by decluttering and see how lixuriously new you feel. #selfcare #wellbeing #clearyourmind #detox #lifestyle #freedom #recycle #julienovaknaturopath #declutter #declutteryourlife

16.01.2022 This hazy full moon has all the feels. Astrologists say the full moon is the end of a six month cycle. Cheers to a new outlook. This was the first night of Spring 2020 here in Melbourne. Onward to brighter days.

14.01.2022 How long can a person survive without food? A few days, depending on circumstances. How long without water? Even shorter than without food. BUT how long would a person survive without air? This is symbolic of just how vital the act of breathing air is yet we often take for granted every moment of every day the way that oxygen charges every cell in our bodies. It is the one thing that is FREE for everybody! (In fact we can tune into our bodies better by concentrating on ...our breathing than by concentrating on a mirror.) Breath has more power over our minds and bodies than we give it credit for. From dental deformities and allergies to blood pressure and nervous system disorders, breathing can affect us for better of worse depending not just on the quality of the air but also on breathing technique. Several books are based on breath and its many breathing techniques- like yogic and Buteyko - but today today let’s focus on how a simple and enjoyable breathing technique can stimulate your vagus nerve to start providing almost instant relief from stress. Breathe in as you slowly count to four . . . breathe out as you slowly count to four . . . repeat for 4 cycles. For added power breathe into your lower belly while doing it then let your chest open (feeling like you are filling a balloon in your abdomen), let your shoulders relax back and down. imagine from the bottom of your spine to the top of your head a string being gently pulled long and upwards. Read my comment below for more on Vagus Nerve. #breathing #relaxation #wellbeing #vagusnerve #calm #oxygen #stressrelief #selfcare #air #breathe #julienovaknaturopath

13.01.2022 Food for thought. Really easy to reach for some salty chips or a packet-meal when you’re tired and in a hurry. Keep some healthy snacks on hand and plan meals ahead to avoid as best you can.... https://www.smh.com.au//what-processed-foods-actually-do-t
11.01.2022 If your recent fruit intake resembles ‘Fruit-bowl B’ then your liver is probably wishing for some attention. If you’ve also combined high fat, high sugar, processed foods in your diet, have taken medications or are overweight then chances are more than good that your liver would benefit enormously from a fresh start. ... Some basic tips are: Lemon water to start the day Increase fibre Increase vegetables (especially cruciferous) and some fruit including citrus and quality pears and apples with the peel. Drink fresh green tea daily. Don’t overeat, or eat too late at night. Your body needs time to digest. When you do eat fatty foods make sure much of that fat is high quality like omega 3 rich fish, seeds, nuts. Fill up your plate with green leafy salads and a drizzle of lemon or lime juice. Include legumes and oats daily in your diet, and Do not eat margarine. Make a commitment to limit alcohol. A short break from alcohol is even better. Stay hydrated and keep moving to help your body detoxify itself. There are many herbs and supplements that can help cleanse the liver while also helping the body to get rid of the toxins safely. They should be taken with guidance of a qualified practitioner who can tailor them to your personal needs. Cleansing your liver can help ease so many other ailments in the body from PMS and joint pain to poor skin and insulin resistance.

07.01.2022 When you hold water in your hand before you drink it - do you take a moment to appreciate the value of it first? Great ways to consume it include with a slice of fruit in your glass or bottle, as herbal or green tea, in soups and certainly as clean filtered or natural spring water. We’re suspended and nurtured in it before birth. We reach for it in the morning, after exercise, when we need a break at work and to socialise. We clean ourselves with it, immerse our bodies i...n it for relaxation and joy, and we release it as tears at some of life’s most powerful moments. We can’t survive more than approx 3 days without it. All human cells, organs and tissues contain water. It regulates body temperature, lubricates joints, lubricates tissues of eyes, nose, mouth and lungs, helps dissolve and transport oxygen and nutrients to the cells and helps remove wastes. But here is the fascinating part. Metabolic and structural water facts aside - have you ever felt the amazing benefits and awe at crashing waves, or the power of a waterfall? The peace of a running stream or of raindrops in a garden or on the roof? There is interesting research on the ability of water to transmit energy such as emotion (check out Dr Masaru Emoto’s work on water for more info on water’s energy. Also Earl Mindell’s The Happiness Effect for water +ions.) There is also research into the ionic benefits of water. Electrolytes have been the main focus of this but there is much more and it has to do with stress and balancing positive ions. More on ionic benefits of water in TOMORROW’S SELF CARE POST ) Water is a source of life and it is what sets this planet apart from others. 04.01.2022 Don’t focus on fats, health stars and other paid marketing strategies. Take it from a naturopath, nutritionist and degree-qualified agriculturist. Focus more on fresh, local and minimally packaged or plastic-free foods. ... If you can get it from your garden - great. Otherwise your local small grocers have the freshest options for vegetables, nuts, organic milks, local honey, relishes and sourdough breads. It honestly tastes better! It is more important than ever before to avoid old stored and imported packaged preserved or rancid foods that have spent months in warehouses, have absorbed plastics, are potentially full of damaged aged oils, mold and leave a massive carbon footprint. Small grocers love their customers. Look around and find one you like. Everything on this plate is crisp, tasty and came from a little green grocer @montyfresh_produce The roses though - they’re mine
02.01.2022 With 1/3 of our lifetime spent in bed it’s vital to analyse the quality, comfort and safety of this piece of furniture - far more than any other. It is where we begin and end each day and should be a place of rejuvenation, wellbeing and intimacy. TIME TO GET DOWN AND DIRTY... 1. Rip off that sheet and shine a bright light on that mattress. Look carefully. Does it make you feel clean, supported and sexy? If the answer is Yes - great! If the answer is Not really - please read on. 2. Hygiene. Place the mattress near a bright window where the UV light can get to work on helping to clean it. You can add an anti microbial spray (hopefully naturally-based). You may even wish to organise a deep steam clean from a trusted cleaner. 3. Support. Your spine, limbs, nerves as well as your muscles all need comfort and support for those long hours rejuvenating each night. Make sure the bed doesn’t sag at the sides or the middle, and that it doesn’t have springs poking you - if it does then it is time to consider a new mattress! 4. The bed itself should be checked for strength and support and cleaned. It should be placed in a position allowing airflow but not cold draughts from windows - nor near heaters or damp areas. (Never sleep in damp or mouldy rooms.) 5.Pillows should have the same hygiene and support inspection as your mattress but should be replaced much more frequently. Your pillows can affect your wellbeing in the form of support for neck and head, teeth and jaw, correct breathing and more. Like a mattress it is something worth investing in the right one for your body. 6. Use cotton pillow protectors and mattress protectors that are washable as this improves hygiene greatly and extends the life of your items. 7. The bedroom itself should set the scene for rest. You can add natural scents, flowers or some plants like aloe which will cleanse the air while you sleep. Relaxing pictures, nice curtains and a beautiful blanket are perfect. Computers and electricals are not items of rest and are best left in other rooms. If they must be there then switch them off and cover them over. PHONES SHOULD NOT BE IN YOUR BEDROOM OR ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR BODY WHILE YOU REST
