25.01.2022 These weeks, this year, it’s all going so fast. It’s now week ten of this impermanent art project and the aim is to slow you down to enjoy those passing moments. This week, the second week of September is early Spring or early Autumn depending on where you are in the world and these particular seasons bring me to think about light. Of shadows, of touch or the weight of something. Light as a feather, walking lightly through nature, floating on a breeze. Light is important. It’s what the impressionists painted. Light and dark is the key part of photography too. This theme is a little more abstract than the others but also encompasses a great deal of interpretation. And you’ve got seven days to explore. Go forth and discover the light.

25.01.2022 Mountain landscape on porcelain. Coming soon.

24.01.2022 Painting the background in with a left over pot of burnt ginger house paint.

23.01.2022 Flowering Casurina and pink boronia from our garden.

22.01.2022 Ten sketches from the last five days

21.01.2022 And the second flannel flower one is finished. This one is painted on cardboard with bees wax and oil paint to get a bit of patina happening on the surface. It was feeling a bit too clean before. Happy with today’s work. Time for a glass of wine next to the fire now. It’s blowing a gale outside.

20.01.2022 Morning light in the old woolshed , Lone Pine.

20.01.2022 #Repost @everysevendays2021 Week ten! And we are moving right along into full autumn here in Australia. Cool mornings and chilly nights and the plants are starting to set their seeds. These are seed pods from a mature Callistimon bush in the garden out at Temora NSW where I’ve been hanging this past week. The background is a faded piece of lino from the old house. #everysevendays2021 #everysevendays2021seeds

20.01.2022 I’ve done it! Forty pieces ready to show for the History Repeats joint exhibition at Manly Art Gallery, opening on the 4 th Dec. The work will be available to buy in the Gallery and also online via my website so if you’d like a preview, sign up to my newsletter and you’ll get a link a couple of days before the show goes live. Head to Juliepaterson.com.au to sign up.

19.01.2022 More of what I’ve been doing. This is the bottom part.

19.01.2022 It’s week nine of #everysevendays2020 and here in Australia it’s the first week of Spring. Soon there will be much yellow and green and sunshine in abundance. And of course in the Northern hemisphere there will also be lots of yellow, from things falling and preparing for winter. I thought that yellow is a rather good symbol for balance, the tipping of the seasons, the turning of the world. The life force, the return to the earth. Bring on the yellow my friends, in all it’s golden hues.

19.01.2022 Half way through number four.

18.01.2022 The exhibition deadline for the beginning of December at Manly is rolling up faster than I’d like. Eek! This piece, as yet untitled, was finished at 11 pm last night and is part of my new addiction - Slow stitching. Why not adopt a new, laboriously slow, yet unexpectedly rewarding ( who knew??) process when a deadline is looming. Makes sense. Not!

18.01.2022 Week eleven and we’re going small. This is a tea tree seed pod - one of hundreds that cluster on the branches of the tea tree bushes that crowd around my frog pond staining the water a beautiful golden brown. Searching for the small things makes you stop and look and reconsider. Small is thoughtful and understated. Small is quiet and strong. ... Remember, this project is a small creative moment in the week for you to connect with nature and improve your well being by making... a simple ephemeral artwork, working with the weekly themes that I set every Monday. If you’re new to the project please check out the guidelines here #everysevendays2020guidelines and to catch up with all eleven themes check them out here - #everysevendays2020themes .... And once you’ve created your composition hashtag #everysevendays2020 and for this week only #everysevendays2020small. And also follow along on @everysevendays2020 See more

18.01.2022 Back on this chap after three days away from the studio. And Im here to tell you that it WILL be finished tomorrow.

17.01.2022 Harry is in the Herald today. Good dog, you’ve come so far from being found running on the Hay plains in the middle of nowhere. #luckydog #sydneymorningherald #saturdaypaper #dogsofinstagram #rescuedog

16.01.2022 Good morning. It’s raining outside. Do we want to get up? No we dont.

15.01.2022 A friend asked me to paint a flannel flower. I’d never done one before so I thought I should practice. I think I’ll give this one to my mother in law.

15.01.2022 #Repost @everysevendays2021 Week Nine. So it’s Easter weekend and I’m running with the hot cross buns theme. I’m not into Easter in any way other than - 1, It’s a long long weekend holiday with generally perfect Autumn weather here in the Blue Mountains and 2, Hot cross buns are delicious. That’s all. #everysevendays2021 #everysevendays2021crisscross

15.01.2022 The Easter long weekend Pop up continues. And for those who can’t make it I’m posting a few choice pieces. For example here we have some 50x70cm offcuts on heavyweight upholstery grade Belgium linen. Spotcheck indigo ( 2 pieces) , Stoney Spinach (2 pieces) and Currawong black ( 4 pieces). Each piece is $45. If you’d like to buy send me a message.

15.01.2022 Hello Coogee flat, it’s really nice to be back. I’ve had this big old scruffy and quirky ground floor flat for over 25 years now. It was originally a corner of the ballroom of an old house built in 1895 that got turned into flats in the 1950’s. It has high ceilings and thick walls and is super quiet and spacious. And two blocks from the beach. We juggle our time here a bit but mostly we are up in the mountains. So we sometimes let friends and acquaintances stay here. I tried renting it out on Air BNB for a while but didn’t like the feel of that. Too impersonal and weird. So now I’m ready to open it up as a weekender for people I like who want a few days in Sydney by the beach. Get in touch directly if you’d like to chat more.

15.01.2022 Today two nice people who make wool paid me a visit during their stay in cabin one. They gave me a little bit of dyed-by-them 5ply and I sewed it into the dots on my big piece ( that’s not quite but very nearly finished) So soft and richly coloured @greatsouthernyarn thank you

15.01.2022 First production run of pots are out of the kiln. whoo hoo!! And they’re looking gooood. In about a month this collaboration between me and @simonreececeramics will all be available to buy in a sydney retail space but you’ll have to wait to find out just where, ‘coz right now it’s a secret...

14.01.2022 Medicine bottles. One of what will be 40 pieces ( two more to go - my god what were we thinking! ) of my work along side 40 pieces of @paper_couture and 40 pieces of @fionakatesimplegorgeous. All created over the past year as a response to covid, quarantine and and the whole crazy malarky that is 2020. The exhibition, called History Repeats, will open on Dec 4 at Manly art gallery and is a collaboration with us, them and Quarantine Station. @magamnsw @qstation

14.01.2022 And in the morning in the garden after a night of mist and light rain this is what we saw

14.01.2022 Hello old friend. We just bought this Rough Rose chair off an old customer who lives down the road from us. I had it upholstered for him about 15 years ago. and it has lasted beautifully.

14.01.2022 Week Eight. Two months in and we’ve got thousands of posts of people participating in my little ephemeral project. Woohoo! I feel honoured I really do. And to celebrate this milestone I thought we might try something a little different. So this week it’s Good Word week. I’m visualising all around the world, words of goodness, of love, compassion and care being spelled out with sticks and stones in public places where strangers come across them and wonder and smile and feel happy and included. Spreading the word - this one is easy so if you’re up for it, do one every day. #everysevendays2020 #everysevendays2020goodword #goodword #spreadtheword #mentalhealthmatters

14.01.2022 Working late, just printed.

13.01.2022 Saturday arvo at Cootamundra station waiting for my ride home.

13.01.2022 #Repost @everysevendays2020 Week twenty one. How’s everyone going? Only a few more weeks for this project - the count down to the end of the year is upon us and what a whacko year it’s been. The layers, the complexities, the hidden surprises, the obvious struggles. We’ve all been through so much. So I thought a bit of introspection might be good for this week and maybe as we build our layered compositions we think back on all the experiences we’ve had these past months and congratulate ourselves that we’ve made it this far. Go us. Yay. #everysevendays2020layers #everysevendays2020

12.01.2022 Amongst all my mad and ridiculously pressing deadlines due over the next few months I’ve got a show that opens next week. The show, developed from my SweetSpot project I started last year is part of #sydneycraftweek. I’ve had the work hanging around nearly finished but not quite for about 9 months and finally this morning I’ve managed to finish the first piece. It’s called Superfast Quiet Spot and I’ve got 20 more to go and the show opens on line only on 9 th October. Lordy... Details to come soon.

12.01.2022 One down twenty five more to go.

12.01.2022 Close up of one of the PeepHoles.

11.01.2022 So come on over to my virtual world. SweetSpot exhibition is up online and the website works at last ( ooh blimey we’ve been having a few technical hitches but it’s all good now. I think...) head to the exhibition link on Juliepaterson.com.au And this project is part of the very excellent #sydneycraftweek and ps it’s my birthday today.

11.01.2022 Affordable housing no 3. Can you believe this took all afternoon to paint? It’s not easy this painting lark. And certainly not quick. Two more to go @magamnsw!

11.01.2022 Harry and Panda. #internationaldogsday

11.01.2022 Monday morning and its wet outside. It’s been raining and cold and windy all weekend here in the Blue Mountains, like winter has returned. But in this damp weather the colours are singing out - the purple and the green and the orange things in my garden all glowing and delicious. Let’s all be saturated with colour this week, yes let’s.

10.01.2022 Number five. I was going to add some stitching but I don’t think this one needs it. Yes or no?

10.01.2022 The light out here is remarkable.

10.01.2022 I’m back on this big one today.

02.01.2022 We’ve just had a very last minute cancellation! So who fancies one or two nights in one of our cabins up here in the Mountains? On the edge of the National Park deep in the bush with just the sounds of the birds and the bees and the wind in the trees. Get in touch here if you fancy a last minute get away this weekend.

02.01.2022 I didn’t win, I came third, but that means a solo show at Shoalhaven regional gallery and that makes me very happy indeed. #meroogalwomensartprize2020 #meroogalartprize
