23.01.2022 We were lucky with the weather and Mount Fuji during this year's Classic Japan Autumn Tour. https://www.instagram.com/p/B6AedNUj5Z7/

22.01.2022 I spent a fun weekend with some new Japanese friends exploring part of our beautiful state of Western Australia. I told them my favourite time to visit the Pinnacles is at night. This is why.... #justanotherdayinwa #perthisok #perthlife #astrophotography #longexposure #milkyway #nightphotography #nightscape #nightsky

18.01.2022 The Tohoku region is one of my favourite places in Japan. There is so much stunning natural scenery to experience and photograph. I've had the idea for this image for a long time, around the theme "Tohoku Beauty". I was able to create this image last weekend during the peak of the autumn colour season in Aomori prefecture. #Tohoku # #Aomori # #Japan #landscapephotography Tohoku Tourism #JapanRevealed

18.01.2022 I've wanted to visit Hutt Lagoon for many years and it's surreal to see this place in person, even more so from an aerial perspective. The contrast between the pink hues of the lake, the dunes, the ocean and sky is absolutely breathtaking. Hutt Lagoon is one of the famous pink lakes of Western Australia. This is a salt lake that owes its colour to a particular species of algae called Dunaliella salina. This algae is a source of ß-carotene, a food-colouring agent and source of... vitamin A. BASF operates an algae production plant at Hutt Lagoon, which happens to be the largest in the world, covering over 250 hectares! 17.01.2022 I worked with the City of Kitakyushu last year to create an image library for their tourism promotion. It's amazing to see my images of the Old Mitsui OSK Lines Building and Kokura Castle printed up this big for a billboard in Taipei! Kitakyushu is one of the fantastic destinations we visit as part of the Kyushu Japan Tour that I will be leading from late October this year: http://www.incrediblephototours.com/tours/kyushu-japan-tour/... 10.01.2022 I attended the 2019 Mandurah Portrait & Landscape Prize presentation night last Saturday, held at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. I was surprised and very happy to be judged the winner for my image "Symphony of Trees". I guess it was third time lucky having placed 3rd and 2nd in past years! It was great to be able to talk to a few of the other finalists and I was very appreciative of all the kind words being said about my work.... Thank you to the judges and all the amazing sponsors, in particular Mandurah Camera House & Sigma Photo Australia for the generous prize I received. If you do get a chance over the next few weeks, get down to the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre to see all the finalists' work.

09.01.2022 I've been to Kyoto many times and have a great interest in geiko culture. Today was the first time I had a chance to photograph a new geiko on the day of her erikae. A pretty fun day of shooting with plenty of walking! Erikae ("lit. turning of the collar") is a ceremony which marks the graduation of a maiko (apprentice geiko) and her debut as a geiko. Geiko wear a black formal "kuromontsuki" kimono for their erikae, and also begin wearing a wig. This looks really impressive!... During the day of erikae, the new geiko will visit various ochaya, restaurants, and other shops to introduce herself as a new geiko. Today's erikae was for Mameharu from Tama, a famous okiya (geiko house) in the Gion Kobu district. As you might have guessed, a geiko's debut brings about a large number of photographers who all follow her like paparazzi as she walks around. There were easily 20-30 photographers all trying to get the elusive shot of Mameharu looking down the lens. The official erikae photographer had her work cut out for her as she had to follow Mameharu along with the rest of us non-official photographers and capture her during her store visits. It would have been extremely difficult to get shots with clear backgrounds with photographers being everywhere, so I take my hat off to her for her effort! After about 2 hours of walking, I was pretty happy to come away with these shots showing off this confident and poised new geiko. Congratulations Mameharu! #geiko #erikae #geisha #maiko #Kyoto # # # # # # # # # # # #VisitJapan

09.01.2022 The canola season in Western Australia is an amazing time for aerial photography with the intense yellow of the canola crops standing out against everything else. Northam is a particularly good area to see vast fields of canola. I captured this image during the recent peak of the canola season. #aerialphotography #westernaustralia #perthlife #thisiswa #australia #visitnortham #landscape_lovers #EarthVisuals #WeLiveToExplore #beautifuldestinations #landscapephotography #landscape_captures #olympuscamera

08.01.2022 Thank you Windward Balloon Adventures for perfectly posing in front of the sun for me this morning! :)

08.01.2022 ToyToy is an Ainu artist from Hokkaido. The Ainu are an indigenous people from northern Japan and Russia. Their traditional culture is quite different from Japa...nese culture and seeing performances of Ainu culture is rare outside of Hokkaido. ToyToy recently visited Perth to perform at various schools and run workshops aimed at increasing awareness of the Ainu culture. Over 1000 students saw him perform during his 2-week visit. I photographed ToyToy during his visit to Perth and we were able to spend some time in the studio. In this image he is playing a tonkori, a five-string instrument with a beautiful sound. Thank you to @huzzardstudios for providing the studio space! If you get a chance to visit Sapporo, get in touch with ToyToy and participate in one of his workshops and learn more about Ainu culture. 06.01.2022 Very foggy morning on the final day of Northam National Ballooning Championships. Dominic Bareford got closest during the "key grab" contest. The pilots had to try and pop a balloon strung up 10m in the air at Northam Airport. #northamnationals

06.01.2022 Yesterday, just a day after Mameharu's erikae in Gion Kobu, there was a rare double erikae in Miyagawacho district! This featured one of my favourite geiko, Toshiemi () from Komaya Okiya, and Kikuyae () from Hanafusa Okiya. It was a much harder job to shoot yesterday as the two wonderful geiko did their round of introductions around Miyagawacho as new geiko. More photographers compared to the day before and tighter shooting spaces. Toshiemi was the geiko who featured i...n my Classic Japan Autumn Tour this time last year for a private photo session. It was interesting to compare my images from the shoot with my tour group last year with her erikae this year. I was pretty happy to come out with a few decent images along with some behind the scenes shots which will give you an idea of how popular an erikae is in Kyoto. To cap things off, there was also a double misedashi (maiko debut) in Miyagawacho right after Toshiemi and Kikuyae had finished. So a rare double-double in the kagai! Congratulations Toshiemi ()! You looked amazing yesterday and I hope to be able to photograph you again in the future. #geiko #erikae #geisha #maiko #Kyoto #Toshiemi #Kikuyae #Komaya #Miyagawacho # # # # # # # # # # # #VisitJapan

04.01.2022 The 2018 AIPP WA Epson Professional Photography Awards were judged this week and every time I have entered these awards, it's always a last-minute rush to work ...out what images to submit. For me, the judging process is the best part about these AIPP awards. Each image gets judged by a panel of 5 of your fellow professional photography peers. If you can get the judges talking, I've found the feedback they have provided very beneficial in improving my photography. My aim this year was to try and score enough in the Landscape category to be considered a finalist. In the end, I didn't quite get there (really needed another Gold score!), but I'm pleased that I improved on my 2016 results - 2 Golds, and 2 Silvers this time. I'll see if I can get 3 Golds next year! :) Big congratulations to the winners. There is some amazing photographic talent in WA!: http://stateawards.aipp.com.au/WA/2018-wa-awards

02.01.2022 I've wanted to visit the Red Centre of Australia for many years. Uluru is simply amazing and really took my breath away - arguably the best combination of landscape and dark sky anywhere in the world.
