25.01.2022 Some cool pre-production work from our man Bruno Borio!
24.01.2022 2D? 3D? What made you think you had to pick? With #celshading, it's possible to fill a 3D rig with a single flat colour, mimicking the appearance of a 2D illustration. "That'll allow us to manipulate the assets more fluidly with minimal work. For example, when we're trying to get a character to turn its head, celshading will trick the viewer's eye into thinking we've drawn each individual frame of the turn when we haven't; the rig we've built is turning and taking the shading with it," says creative director Oz Smith. "It's economical animation." See cel shading in action for yourself, in this little piece of R&D we've been working on for a client...
24.01.2022 Keen to explore a career in animation but don't know where to start? Jumbla Academy can help. Here's an interview snippet with recent graduate Rachel Gyan about her experience learning in-studio with us (she was a total newbie when she started). She's now kicking a## as Jumbla's newest intern! Watch the full interview and see how Jumbla Academy can change the course of your career in just six months --> https://jumbla.me/rachel-academy

23.01.2022 If you're aged between 18 and 34 you probably don't mind escaping into a video game or two (you're in good company, trust us). So what kind of advertising makes you sit up and take notice? It's a question we asked some of Australia's leading esports brands, and the answer should be a wake-up call for marketers...... www.jumbla.me/esportsads
23.01.2022 When Sonic: the Movie or more precisely Sonic himself was first unveiled in early May, the internet greeted it with widespread derision. Why was he so uncomfortably anthropomorphic? Sonic's release date has since been pushed back three months to allow for changes, but it's gotten us thinking. We asked Jumbla character animator Rich Shilling: what kind of pressures does a company face in reinventing an icon? And how could you get it so wrong in the first place?... https://jumbla.me/whathappenedtosonic
22.01.2022 Hand-selected a team of six for this high-end service video for agency Seesaw Studio and its client, HomePal. The beautiful, illustrated characters and detailed texturing aligned nicely with the HomePal brand.
22.01.2022 "I like breaking the illusion of predictability in storytelling," says Jumbla creative manager Cornel. "It's something I always try to achieve with Jumbla as well. Well help clients come up with different versions of their idea by polishing it, twisting it around or mutating it; branching into two, three, four different iterations to see which works the best." This is Cornel's story: jumbla.me/thecreativityequation
20.01.2022 So, here's a quick one that might be interesting if you're keen to learn a little more about the animation process. Here's how one of our designers, Jeric, worked with the splashes in this scene
19.01.2022 Its showreel time. Sit back, relax, and enjoy Jumblas finest cuts from 2019
19.01.2022 Wonderful ... umm ... experiments by Cornel Swoboda with sound by Sean Crowley Music.

18.01.2022 They say inspiration is unconscious; that it comes from the farthest corners of the soul. We think it's simpler than that. Take this character, for instance. No guessing where our animators drew inspiration here ... #artofmindblowing #topsecretpassionproject
18.01.2022 Want to know how to animate a cyclist in #aftereffects? Check this out!
17.01.2022 Here's a looping animation of Red Riding Hood texting her buddies. She's like 'Yo, what up, gangstas?' and they're all like 'OMG - it's Friday, I cannot wait for the weekend!' and she's like 'Yes, I like Saturday'. It's a riveting conversation. .
17.01.2022 Had loads of fun working with @chillvibes and the @iyovisuals team on @allscrewedup - the visual tribute for DJ Screw. Releasing today!! 16.01.2022 Stoked with a bronze trophy at the #AEAFawards for our 'extreme heat' piece (client: Department of Health and Human Services). We painted all the 3D assets in Photoshop directly onto the 3D models, marrying that with traditional 2D illustrations - ensuring all the visuals were seamless. Lots of layers and camera movement gave the impression of movement to relatively static illustrations in After Effects.... Models of body organs were rendered in Element 3D and then textured in Photoshop. Some additional modelling was done in Maya. Full video --> https://jumbla.me/extreme
15.01.2022 Do not press this button ... but do press stream on Southern FM (88.3FM) at 6PM to catch Jumbla creative director Oz Smith talking all things tech, entertainment, and innovation.
14.01.2022 Stoked to have worked with Foxtrot Papa to create three short films for Jaguar. We learned a lot about photorealism on these ones! First up, the F-Pace! Here’s the director's cut. - @borio4d @ozsmith @seancrowleymusic
14.01.2022 From time to time, we like to create work for clients that haven't fallen into our laps yet (but we're sure they eventually will). And we like to... have a little fun with them. See for yourself, in Cornel Swoboda's surreal take on Nike Air. To read about the genesis of this concept, go to: jumbla.me/surrealnike
14.01.2022 Hey Sean... just sit there and play something... Tracey's entry for LoopdeLoop tonight! The theme is 'instrument' and our soundie Sean plays lots of instruments, so here's a loop of him playing one in the studio!... . . @traceydraws (IG) @seancrowleymusic (IG) See more
14.01.2022 Special shout-out to the Jumbla mo-bros. Some did it tougher than others, and there's suspicions around performance-enhancing mo-growth factors being present in the bloodstream of a few. Regardless of mo-doping status, cracking effort fellas ! #movember #mobros #mogrowthfactor #modoping
12.01.2022 Curious about what it takes to go from scribbler to hired set of illustrative hands? Thinking about sending your CV into an agency? Wondering what exactly happens at our top animators desks? Come have your questions answered by Jumbla Creative Director Oz Smith, wholl be speaking this Saturday afternoon at Australian Film Television and Radio School Make It conference. Ozs journey from aspiring animator to Jumbla Creative Director first began in England, where he graduate...d with a degree in graphic design. He quickly impressed and then added a range of high-profile clients to CV, including the BBC, ITV, MTV Finland and Discovery. His favourite? Designing program titles for the iconic BBC News, as well as the titles and graphics for the Eurovision Song Contest, which were viewed by over 300m people. Never one to let boundaries (literal or imagined) stop him, Oz then made the journey down under. He joined Jumbla as creative director in 2015 where he now leads and directs on a range of projects including TVCs, character animation and video game cinematics. His skills lie in creative conceptualization and design and animation across both 2D and 3D. He loves the challenge of making things from scratch, telling stories, and executing ideas. 12.01.2022 Here's a sneak peek (shhhh ) into a side project our Creative Director Callan Woolcock is working on. The final story will include detectives, robots and a bunch of techniques like 2D, 3D and cel animation.
11.01.2022 How often do you think about your socks? Unless it's raining we'd wager ... not often? In this job for @2XU, we quickly learnt about the layers of science that go into producing a sock. Our task was to make that clear and compelling for everyone via a range of impressive photorealistic 3D sock rigs. See how the final piece came together: jumbla.me/2xusocks
10.01.2022 You see Film Victoria's logo everywhere -- film festivals, award-winning films, grant application forms ... So when they came to us to help reinvent their iconic logo animation, we knew we had to make a splash. Read about our process: https://jumbla.me/filmvic
10.01.2022 Bruce Munro's latest exhibition, Tropical Light, opens in the Northern Territory today. In the weeks leading up to its launch date, you might've seen ads for the exhibition, featuring a great ball of light travelling throughout Darwin? That's us on your screens! (Thanks to a request from our friends at Atomic 212.) Lead animator Bruno Borio takes you behind the keyframes of the project, including what the ball represents and how we carefully recreated 3D versions of Darwin from still images:
09.01.2022 It's the first Friday of December and that means you should enjoy this loop of a recent project we knocked out. K, thanks. Directed by @ozsmith (IG)
08.01.2022 Phoenix Tapware came to us with a unique problem: they needed to clearly display the one of a kind, inspired-by-nature waterflow of their luxury showerheads. But if you know a thing or two about water (which we're sure you do), you'll know capturing the pattern of individual water droplets ... is very ... difficult. Here's how we solved their problem - with the help of a couple of RealFlow particles, some atmospheric lighting and a killer soundtrack. Read more on the website: jumbla.me/phoenixtapware
07.01.2022 "In animation, you look for the arcs," says Jumbla Creative Manager Jeric. "They're everywhere in life, so they should be everywhere in your work as well." #animationprinciples #behindthescenes #characterrigging
07.01.2022 Just what does it take to make in the games music industry? Our in-house composer and sound designer Sean Crowley Music went to a game sound design conference to find out. Sean's perspective as a seasoned 'linear' soundie provides some great insight into what needs to happen to make it in this parallel industry! http://jumbla.me/gamesaudio

04.01.2022 We love mixing styles, like these frame-by-frame effects Robbie created for our recent Navy Health TVC. Here's how it all came together.
04.01.2022 If you want your movie to be a box office hit, you dont just cast any old Tom, Dick or Hannah to play the leading role. The same goes with animation. For Boost, we were given the challenge of making their video's hero a graffiti-minded peanut. It needed to be naughty, but likeable. Thats not to mention the other personalities and looks we tried before Boost gave our leading legume the green light. And at the very last minute, an audio change meant we needed to reconfigure just exactly what lines of dialogue were being said. Want to know how our peanut performed under the spotlight? Go to: www.jumbla.me/peanut
03.01.2022 Ever been to Slough? You know - the place where the UK version of The Office is set? If not, we've saved you the trouble by asking former local and current Jumbla Creative Director Oz Smith about his experiences there. Oz also opens up about how the animation industry has changed since he cut his teeth as a designer, and spins a yarn around his winning tender to produce the 2011 Eurovision opening titles (in 3D), without any 3D experience. Sweet !

02.01.2022 It takes a lot to bring a new app into the world and if were being honest, most products live or die based on their marketing. So what was it like to work with the start-up gurus behind Envato - Cyan and Collis Taeed - on marketing their latest app? Find out: https://www.jumbla.com/news/milkshaking-it-up
02.01.2022 Animation's often associated with hand-painting frames, like in the Disney films of yore. But did you know that beautiful, handpainted frames are also a great way to add colour, character and encourage engagement? As an added bonus: they're also thrilling to watch. Find out how this style elevates DHHS' fire safety warning: jumbla.me/dhhs
02.01.2022 Origin stories -- whether it's for a brand, or a movie series -- are important. But you've got to tell them just right. So when charity The Polished Man, who aim to stop violence against children, came to us to illustrate their founder's story, we sunk every available mind into coming up with the right concept and tone. Find out why we settled on a storybook style, and the symbolism behind this choice on the website: jumbla.me/polishedman
