24.01.2022 UPCOMING ONLINE COMMUNITY INFORMATION SESSION - INLAND RAIL PROJECT ILLABO TO STOCKINBINGAL Inland Rail is a 1,700km fast freight backbone providing transit times of less than 24 hours for freight trains from Melbourne to Brisbane. Once complete, Inland Rail will transform how we move goods around Australia, better link businesses, farmers and producers to national and global markets and generate new opportunities for industries and regions. ... Over the last few months, Inland Rail has been undertaking a design refinement exercise of the Illabo to Stockinbingal section. This exercise identified a range of technical, environmental and budget challenges and opportunities and they are seeking input from landowners and stakeholders. On the below map, the dark blue line in the map shows the previous alignment 2019 design including bridges and level crossings. The light green line (optimised alignment) indicates the preferred refined design. The optimised alignment is not at the design level as the previous alignment and therefore does not include bridges over creeks. The orange lines located at Stockinbingal indicates the proposed bridge over the rail line and the rail connections to the existing east west rail line. SESSION DETAILS The online sessions will be held on: Thursday 17 Sept, 10am to 11.30am and 6pm to 7.30pm Saturday 19 Sept, 10am to 11.30am Tuesday 22 Sept, 10am to 11.30am and 6pm to 7.30pm REGISTER YOUR INTEREST To register for these briefings email [email protected] or call on 1800 732 761. They will send you a link when you register. For more information on the Illabo to Stockinbingal download the factsheet here: https://inlandrail.artc.com.au///documents/111005/download

22.01.2022 INTRODUCING EPETITIONS THE NEW ONLINE WAY TO BE HEARD BY NSW PARLIAMENT In an historic first, Cootamundra electorate residents are now able to petition the NSW Parliament online, following the introduction of ePetitions. Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said the digital move would make it easier for people to create, share and submit a petition, and could not come at a better time given the COVID-19 pandemic has forced communities to avoid in-person meetings, and instead ...find safe, non-physical ways to be heard by their elected representatives. Ms Cooke said while the people of the Cootamundra electorate will still be able to submit paper petitions to the NSW Legislative Assembly, the introduction of ePetitions provides a second, simple, online option to get their message to the NSW Parliament. Petitions are so important and help everyone to have their say on the issues that matter to our communities. This is a way everyone can have an easy, online way of connecting with their Parliament, Ms Cooke said. The petitions are created online, signed online and can be shared online, including on social media. The ePetitions platform has been custom-built with safety and security in mind, which means neither the public nor members can see who’s signed the online petition, and email addresses required to sign the petition are only used to inform signatories of its progress, and then deleted after six months, Ms Cooke said. Once a petition closes, a copy is provided to the relevant Minister. If the petition has more than 500 signatures the Minister must provide a written response. If an ePetition has more than 20,000 signatures, it will attract time in the Chamber, and arrangements will be made for Members to debate it in the House. For paper petitions, the threshold to spark a debate is 10,000 signatures. Petitions are an important tool in raising local issues, stimulating discussion and can often lead to action, Ms Cooke said. The NSW Parliament's ePetitions platform is unique in Australia it's fully online and almost entirely automated. It connects petitioners, through a presenting Member, to the Parliament itself. NSW is also the only jurisdiction in the country where citizens have the chance to have their petition debated by parliamentarians. The Speaker of the NSW Legislative Assembly, Jonathan O’Dea, said the introduction of ePetitions highlights the Parliament’s desire to modernise, and become better connected with citizens. We want Parliament to be a place that’s accessible and easy to navigate, and I congratulate the staff of the Legislative Assembly and Department of Parliamentary Services for developing this new online platform to better serve the people of NSW, he said. I look forward to seeing the new ePetitions roll in from across NSW, he said. For more information about ePetitions, go to: www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/epetitions Steph Cooke MP signing petition on Cowra Hospital

14.01.2022 SCHOOL FORMALS TO GO AHEAD Year 12 students in the Cootamundra electorate will be able to celebrate finishing school the traditional way with COVID-19 safe graduation ceremonies and formals being allowed to take place during Term 4. NSW Nationals Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said year 12 formals were an important milestone for students, and it would not be fair for the current crop of school leavers to miss out on the experience. ... I had several parents and grandparents reach out to me to express how important school formals are not only for students, but for our entire communities. Local hairdressers, dress shops, beauticians and other businesses look forward to school formals and helping our young people celebrate this important rite of passage, Ms Cooke said. I am so pleased our school leavers will be able to celebrate and come together with their friends as they embark on the next chapter of their lives. Our students who are currently studying for their HSC deserve to have something to look forward to after their exams. Schools across NSW will receive the COVID-19 safety plan guidance for Year 12 graduations and school formals by 11 September. Year 12 students requiring a COVID-19 test should tell their GP or testing clinic they are currently doing their HSC. This will ensure their test results are prioritised, minimising any disruption to their schooling and study. The NSW Government will also provide COVID safe guidance to students wanting to participate in schoolies under the current restrictions and health advice.
