19.01.2022 How is Arthritis Diagnosed, treated, managed and prevented? Diagnosis and Treatment: In order to be correct and be able to treat your pet well, your vet will conduct a thorough examination, observe his\her movement and behavior. The vet will also have to perform some tests like X-ray, blood count, a thyroid test or kidney, liver test, etc. With many different treatments available now a days, it is more important to match the exact needs of your pet’s condition. Your vet would... be the best judge of the treatment and management. Remember, Arthritis is common and has worst effects in obese\overweight dogs. Thus the vet may suggest weight management and some exercise. Parts of the treatment are medication, diet management so that you satisfy their nutritional needs, supplements and in some cases surgery. Prevention: While arthritis can be tricky to prevent, you can always help by reducing the risk and\or severity. Regular exercise, proper diet and nutrition, weight management. With the advancements in the vet industry and the vet medicines, there are a lot of advance medicines that can help your dog. Thus, your vet is the best to contact as he\she knows the best for the health and wellbeing of your pet.
18.01.2022 WOW that's a lot of Cats Remember, July is Discounted Desexing Month. Make the best decision for your pet! Please call 6922 5375 to book them a Desexing appointment.
15.01.2022 *****BREAKING NEWS***** To honour National Desexing Month as set by the National Desexing Network. We are offering discounted desexing services on the 1st and 3...rd Monday of September i.e. on Monday 7th Sept 2020 and on 21st Sept 2020. Call us on 6922 5375 to make an appointment. REMEMBER: BENEFITS OF DESEXING There are many reasons why pet owners should desex their pets. As well as helping to stop pet overpopulation, the following are some of the other benefits associated with desexing cats and dogs. Health Reduced risk of getting cancer or other diseases of the reproductive organs, such as testicular cancer, prostate cancer/disorders in males, and cystic ovaries, ovarian tumours, acute uterine infections and breast cancer in females, and also other diseases like mammary cancer, perianal tumours and perianal Hamas. Females can suffer from physical and nutritional exhaustion if continually breeding. Pets generally live longer and healthier lives. Behavioural Pets are less prone to wander, fight, and are less likely to get lost or injured. Reduces territorial behaviour such as spraying indoors. Less likely to suffer from anti-social behaviours. They become more affectionate and become better companions. Eliminates heat cycles in female cats and their efforts to get outside in search of a mate. Eliminates male dogs’ urge to mount people’s legs. Cost Reduces the cost to the community of having to care for unwanted puppies and kittens in pounds and shelters. No additional food or vet bills for the offspring. No need to find homes for unwanted or unexpected litters of puppies or kittens. Save money from expensive surgeries from car accidents or fights, which are less likely to occur if your pet doesn’t roam around. Dumping puppies and kittens is an ethical cost, as well as being illegal and inhumane. The price of desexing is more affordable to those in financial need with the assistance of organisations such as NDN.

13.01.2022 March is Heartworm Awareness Month Heartworm, or Dirofilaria immitis, is a parasite that is spread by mosquitoes, so you pet does not even need to be in contact with other pets to become infected! Heartworm has a complicated life cycle. Infected dogs have microfilaria, an immature form of heartworm, circulating in their bloodstream. Microfilariae are sucked up by mosquitoes when feeding on the blood of infected dogs. The immature parasite develops into a heartworm larva ins...ide the mosquito, then a single bite from a carrier mosquito can infect your pet (dog or cat). As the worms mature in the heart they can cause a physical blockage as well as thickening of the heart and associated blood vessels. In the early stages of infection there may be no visible signs, however, infection may eventually lead to signs of heart failure (reluctance to exercise, lethargy, coughing) and even death. Heartworm is present throughout most of Australia (except Tasmania and arid areas). Thankfully, heartworm is very easy to prevent with a once a year injection and should form part of your pet health care routine. If your pet has not been on heartworm prevention a heartworm test is required prior to starting a prevention program. To benefit you and your pets, we are offering a FREE heartworm test for dogs aged >6 months in the month of March 2021 when in conjunction with starting your dog on heartworm injections for the first time giving them complete protection. We are also offering 10% OFF vaccination for puppies (<6 months old) receiving their 1st Heartworm injection. Call us on 02 6922 5375 to make an appointment.

06.01.2022 Vaccination has revolutionised control of infectious disease in our pets. It is essential that all pets are adequately vaccinated to help protect the pet population as a whole. Responsible pet care requires puppies and kittens to be given their initial course of vaccinations, but this cannot protect them for the rest of their lives. Adult dogs and cats require regular vaccination to maintain immunity against dangerous diseases. Please give us a call on 6922 5375 to discuss a suitable vaccination regime for your furry friend.

01.01.2022 Canine parvovirus is a disease that affects dogs of all ages but is most serious in young pups and older dogs. The virus attacks the intestines causing bloodstained diarrhoea, uncontrollable vomiting and severe abdominal pain. Some infected dogs will die from parvovirus, even if they receiveintensive veterinary care. Parvovirus is spread via dog faeces and is very persistent in the environment even after the faeces has been cleaned away. For this reason, it is not necessary t...o have direct contact with other dogs for the disease to be spread. The virus is so persistent that an infected dog’s environment needs to be cleaned with a potent disinfectant to prevent spread to other dogs. Outbreaks occur regularly especially in summer, with an estimated 20,000 dogs infected every year in Australia. To make a vaccination appointment for your furry friend, call us on 6922 5375. #vaccinatepets #parvo #parvokills #parvoawareness #parvoalert #junee #wagga #petvaccination #veterinary #puppies #dogs #petcare
