25.01.2022 Oh my goodness! Marigold went shopping for some new stock today, & came back with some interesting tomatoes, a bit more basil... some raspberries... roses, peonies, some pretty potted flowers and divine foliage plants... Too many things to list here, but they will all go on our website, as soon as possible. Click & collect is at the shop tomorrow, 11am-3pm, and deliveries will go out late afternoon. Remember, we’re doing free delivery for orders over $50 in Moreland and Yarra Ranges. Place orders on www.junglejaneshop.com

24.01.2022 Alocasia Amazonica can be yours, if you’re quick! Supply is extremely limited, and we’re really proud to offer you these incredible plants at $45 Look at the amazing markings on the fleshy leaves!

24.01.2022 Meet Jane. Jungle Jane! We often describe our business as "where horticulture meets art". Our intention is to provide a space for local creators to connect and collaborate. Big thanks to @maycchino for our amazing logo artwork.

23.01.2022 Guess what we got today? A beautiful, fresh collection of #poinsettiasforchristmas ! So gorgeous!

22.01.2022 We got a proper seed rack today! Yippee! Thankyou very much, #goodmanseeds ! We can see the great selection, & the coloured packets look great against the white walls in our shop! Growing from seed really suits some crops, as opposed to purchased seedlings. The reason is, some plants, like corn, beans & peas actually resent being moved, because they don’t like too much root disturbance. Raising plants from seed is also more economical, and you can share and swap them with friends and neighbours, because you usually get quite a few in a packet! However, for people short on time, or maybe just starting gardening, bought seedlings are great, too, and at Jungle Jane, we stock both, in best quality and fairest prices available.

22.01.2022 We have posted a little feature on hydrangeas in our private Facebook group: JungleJaneFriends, because we are very excited to have taken delivery of our first hydrangeas for the season today. If you would like to receive free garden tips, share garden stories, ask gardening questions, get exclusive discounts & be first to know about special events, just send us a joining request! The photo here, is a fabulous display designed by Jungle Jane’s own Marianne Colwell, for The Conservatory, Fitzroy Gardens, Melbourne. So beautiful!

21.01.2022 We’re really jungling it up! A beautiful new range of indoor plants has arrived, and we will list them for you, on our website tomorrow. The first batch of business cards has arrived, too! Woohoo! We will be down at the Brunswick West shop, doing our mail orders and click& collect, tomorrow, so give us a hoy as you mosey past 247 Melville Road!

20.01.2022 It’s a bit cold for these babies outside tonight, so they’re indoors until the sun comes out again. Melbourne weather! Basil is such a popular plant! Anti inflammatory, anti fungal, and according to some sources, antiviral too, Basil is a healthy addition to the diet. Of course, Basil is much enjoyed for its distinctive flavour and aroma! Freshly fragrant, juicy sweet tomatoes and basil are a natural pairing! Add some good black olives, sliced bocconcini, extra virgin olive... oil, salt & cracked black pepper, & you have a beautiful accompaniment to freshly baked bread! Basil & pine nut pesto is a classic! Blend together toasted pine nuts, salt, freshly ground black pepper, a little Parmesan cheese, basil leaves & extra virgin olive oil... heavenly on fresh pasta, spread on crackers, or even in a baked potato! What’s your favourite way to eat this wondrous herb? See more

19.01.2022 They’re back! Gorgeous, lush, maidenhairs, for a bit of green forest romance... we have 2 kinds: Adiantum Aethiopicumb Valley Mist, which has long stems and bigger leaves, and Adiantum Fragrans Maidenhair , which is the dainty little clumping form. Both only $17.50!

18.01.2022 Do you know we have our very own plant doctor in-house, at Jungle Jane? Marianne Colwell, of @petal_2_metal & a partner at Jungle Jane, is a fully qualified & experienced horticulturalist. Today, she showed Wendy, a lovely customer, how to repot her indoor plants, fertilise them, & propagate them as well. Wow! That’s great customer service! At Jungle Jane, we are committed to looking after all your plant needs, & can help you select the right pots, potting mixes, fertilisers and more.

18.01.2022 Here’s a pretty kokedama idea, that’s a creative collaboration between the two business partners behind Jungle Jane. Marianne styles the plants, and Marigold makes the little stoneware bowls. Each artisan designed kokedama they create is one of a kind. They’re made with love, and care, in Melbourne, exclusively for Jungle Jane. You can purchase one for only $30, at www.junglejaneshop.com

15.01.2022 A bit more excitement, today, at Jungle Jane HQ! Our angelic landlord, Michael, has hand painted a sign for us. He even created it using his own hand cut stencils! As you can see, Marianne is absolutely chuffed! Sean, the clever builder of our cute little shed, (he’s no slouch as a gardener, either!) and Michael installed the sign for us. Now we’re getting a little bit easier for you to find... Setting up a new shop during lockdown requires much patience & courage, as well as great support from good friends. We are so grateful to be surrounded by an incredibly helpful, and talented team of family and friends, as well as fabulous customers, who have welcomed us into their neighbourhood so kindly. Feeling the love...

10.01.2022 Lettuces are at their best at this time of year, and birds in the garden are great at keeping down snails and slugs. Read tips on produce perfect lettuces in Jungle Jane’s private Facebook group, Jungle Jane Friends. It’s a place for gardeners, new and experienced, to swap ideas, ask questions, and have a bit of fun. Send a request to join, if it sounds like it’s for you!

09.01.2022 Sooo... here’s a something nice that we prepared before springtime: Italian Parsley, large ($6.50) and small ($3.50) pots. The little ones are a cute kitchen addition for small herb gardens, and would be very suitable for window boxes and bench tops or window sills... the bigger ones can happily sit outside. Both are brimming full of seedlings, so thrifty gardeners can divide them up! We think they make very nice gifts, too... cultivating your wild...

08.01.2022 Warmer in Melbourne, and many gardeners are sowing seed for summer. These are the steps for raising zucchini successfully. Once they’re big enough, and the weather is consistently warm, you can plant them from their containers into your garden. Make sure you give your seedlings protection from marauding cockatoos, bossy king parrots, cold nights, and the heavy rain, that’s still likely! Water to keep moist, but not wet. Marianne has prepared a great instructional piece with her special, natural recipe for treating powdery mildew, which can be a nuisance in warm, damp conditions in spring. Members of our gardener’s group, Jungle Jane Friends, will find it there. If you’re interested in swapping gardening ideas, & like what we’re doing, please don’t hesitate to send a membership request.

05.01.2022 As I watch the snow outside my window, I'm hoping everyone protected their seedling babies, as advised in our September planting guide! The same information is relevant to October, in Melbourne, although we can expect longer days, and shorter nights. We've been very busy with online orders, lately. A huge thank you, to everyone who has supported Jungle Jane, during these very strange trading conditions. We are really so grateful for each and every one of you. 04.01.2022 As you can see, Miss Pickle loves her Pet Grass! At Jungle Jane, we stock quality Pet Grass, (Dactylis Glomerata) grown naturally, without pesticides or any other nasties. Why pet grass? Just like humans, your pets need some nutritional supplements. Pet Grass will assist in the provision of essential vitamins and minerals. It is especially good for dogs and cats although many birds also like it. For house bound animals it will help balance their diet. Very easy to grow, Pe...t Grass grows well in most garden positions but prefers a moist, well drained soil. Can also be grown indoors in pots on the window sill and in trays on the balcony. It needs good light and a well drained potting mix. Fertilise with Seasol or another natural organic plant food. Jungle Jane also stocks Catnip (Nepeta Cataria), A summer flowering shrub that gives cats a natural high. It makes Miss P. A little kittenish, after she rolls in it! But that’s a story for another day... Pet herbs are growing again, now that winter is over, so you can give your birds, dogs and cats a little treat! See more
