25.01.2022 Not many people in Western Sydney have seen as much footy as this man. The nephew of the great John McLaughlin, Chris has been around footy his entire life. Chris is a passionate coach with a contribution to junior footy of over 10 years, and now continues on his coaching journey with the senior club. He'll lead the U19s and will again mentor many players he's guided through their junior footy careers. Thanks for your contribution to not only our club Chris, but junior footy in general. Good luck with the next phase of your coaching journey.

19.01.2022 Hi Goannas, At this stage we do not know how this will affect community AFL. The AFL are seeking further clarification with an update as soon as possible. We ask you to stand by and we will update you as soon as we know anything further. Training will continue as normal for the time being. ... Please be careful with what media you share and go by the advice on the AFLNSWACT and AFL Sydney Juniors pages or what is passed on through the appropriate channels.
19.01.2022 Good News. Footy will go ahead this weekend with no changes to fixtures. However, we will take this opportunity to remind everyone to adhere to the following:... Arrive dressed and ready to train/play. No changerooms or showers will be accessible. The clubroom MAY NOT be used as a change room substitute. Shower at home. Sanitiser must be used prior to and after training/games. Coaches to wipe down all equipment used after each session (If you need wipes see Renee or Simon). 1.5m social distancing must be observed. This includes between players and officials and between teams. No handshakes (ADULTS TOO) or high fives. Team celebrations and songs must be socially distanced (no huddles). Saliva becomes airborne when we shout or sing (particularly when done with passion). 1 Strictly one parent or carer per child only (except for instances where both parents are also officials). No additional family members or friends. This means no siblings, grandparents, cousins, aunties and uncles or extended family members. All spectators and team officials MUST sign in no matter which ground you are attending. Most clubs are using the QR code system or paper sign in. Players will be recorded on team sheets. No personal information is kept by the clubs. The check in information is only accessible by NSW Health and the QR code sites in the event of a COVID case being identified. Follow the strict arrive, play, leave messaging set out by the AFL. No socialising before or after the game (no post game car park conversations/gatherings or social activities). Avoid carpooling where possible and mixing with other households. Officials ONLY allowed on the field or bench areas. Officials MUST also exercise social distancing and use sanitiser (if your team manager or coach does not have any, see Renee or Simon or ask the club you are visiting) We appreciate this is not ideal and the AFL are seeking further clarification on the conditions outlined by the Chief Medical Officer during the week. Priority is for our kids to be able to continue playing football and for that to happen we all need to play our part. Greystanes Goannas and the other Western Sydney junior AFL clubs appreciate your support in these matters to ensure footy can be played each week. 19.01.2022 These two typify what our club is about. This year, they both notched up 150 club games and over the years have developed into quality young men. Their commitment from U9's all the way through to U17's has also seen some pretty impressive highlights including premierships, rep footy, bags of goals and friendships they'll value forever. Thank you Julian and Blake, you boys are great role models for our younger crop coming through. Good luck with your footy journey.
18.01.2022 Watching from all around town. Congrats Goannas. We couldn't be prouder. Thanks so much being for such great role models for our girls. Can't wait to continue what we started in 2021 and hopefully bring the boys along for the ride too.
18.01.2022 To all our Goannas Dads, we say thank you for all that you do for us and hope you have had a great day.
18.01.2022 Did you know ALL players, officials and spectators are bound by a code of conduct? As we come to the final weeks of the 2020 season we are issuing a friendly reminder to refarmiliarise yourself with the appropriate codes of conduct. At all times, we expect our members and their families to behave in a way that upholds the good name of our club. We thank you all for your cooperation and remind everyone that all officials (coaches, umpires, ground managers, team managers, runners and medics) are volunteers (that's right, we do not get paid and this is not our regular occupation). We are human beings.
18.01.2022 Registrations opening soon. Girls training already commenced and our boys dates to be announced shortly. Stay tuned for more info.
18.01.2022 Thanks to our Stockland grant we were able to purchase equipment and run sessions like this to teach our kids how to protect themselves in a tackle and when picking up the footy.

We would also like to get a feel for who is returning in 2021 so we can forward our plans on to AFL NSW. ... 10.01.2022 Footy in the rain? Yes please! 2020 still delivering. Gipps is open and so are we.
10.01.2022 6 players had never played footy before, 10 played up an age or 2 and 9 first time Goannas, these young ladies had an exceptional year together and have started a culture where everyone belongs. With a goal of playing finals footy, only covid impacted this with the girls finishing 4th (HUGE), but only the top 2 going through to the big dance. Our girls forged relationships with the Goannas women's teams, where they held combined training sessions, watched each others games,... and are already looking to taking that to the next level! They are already into their 2021 preparations, with every player who played the last game returning for the first session and a few more additions to the team. Bring on 2021! #becomepartofsomethingbig #mixinitup #iseeitbutidontbelieveit #juniorgoeys #morethanagame #PeopleFirst
10.01.2022 The Greystanes Goannas were saddened today to learn of the passing of local teacher and mentor to many Goannas, Karen Akhurst. Our committee, parents and playing group pass on our condolences to the Akhurst family, Karen's colleagues, friends and the hundreds of students and families she mentored over her teaching years. R.I.P Karen, our community and the people in it are better for having you apart of our lives. ... https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=4220108557999703&id=357098387634092
08.01.2022 On behalf of the Goannas U14s Youth Girls team, we wanted to pass on our thanks for your support this year and allowing our girls to get a taste of the hard wor...k that has gone into your success to date. When we found out that we couldn't be there tomorrow to reciprocate the support, we decided to make a quick video with a message from each of the girls. We are looking forward to watching your best 4 quarters of footy for the year via the live stream. Thanks again, go well!
08.01.2022 Want something to do this afternoon? We got you covered.
07.01.2022 GROUNDS ARE CLOSED - No training tonight. Rest and recover ready for Friday's training.
07.01.2022 Congratulations to our U11s, U12s, U14YG and U17s who had a clean sweep this round. #gogoannas
07.01.2022 Our girls program are already 3 weeks into their 2021 preparations. After last years success, every player that played in the last game last season arrived for week 1 ready to go again and we've already boosted our numbers for the coming season. The girls (and a few of the boys) were lucky enough to have a skills session with #afl legend @dickynavis02 and fitness with @repsandrounds. This week they are hitting the pools at @royallifesaving Aquatic Academy and then the famous sand hills at Cronulla with @therunningcoach_ for their last session and team Christmas party. #becomepartofsomethingbig #mixinitup #iseeitbutidontbelieveit #juniorgoeys #morethanagame #PeopleFirst

05.01.2022 Amalia reached her 50 game milestone this season. On permit to us from Fairfield Falcons, we were super glad to share this special occasion with her this year as part of the Goannas U14YG squad.
04.01.2022 ATTENTION ALL Training time for Under 9s and Under 11s (tomorrow only) will commence from 5:00pm to line up with the AFL's Come and Try Night which had previously been postponed due to all the rain. If you cannot make it this early that is ok. Simply turn up at 5:30pm your usual time or as soon as you can get there. We will look to adjusting our training times after the Easter Holidays. Under 13s will commence from 5:30pm as usual and you will train with your coach Ta...kirah. U14s YG and U16s YG will start at the usual time as per coach Michael's instructions. As the AFL will have activities set up down one end we ask that you keep to one half of the field just for this week. Under 9s and Under 11s as this night is specifically to recruit for your teams and Auskick we ask that you join in with the AFL's activities and follow their instructions. We will end the night with a BBQ for our guests and we invite each club player to join in too. You will be provided with a sausage on a roll (Halal option available) and a juice popper or water. We are looking for volunteers to help cook the BBQ whilst the children play. Come see me at training if you are able to help. We will organise a uniform collection day in the second week of the holidays. Please note some of our uniforms may arrive later, but all our guernseys are ready to go. For continuing players you may need to wear previous socks, shorts and warm up tops for the first week or two. Lastly, if you have old clothing that you no longer need feel free to drop it to us and we can redistribute to families who may need them for now. Any old boots that are still in good condition and can be re-homed are also welcome. We will set up a tub just outside the canteen. See you tomorrow. Renee :)
04.01.2022 ICYMI - Some of our talented young men got a mention in the Kevin Sheedy Medal top 10. Shout out to Julian Dilorio, Will Lockett and huge congrats to runner up Jamal Bednarz.

03.01.2022 Thinking of our mates out at the Hawkesbury Saints JAFC as they feel the full effects of the floods out their way. This image is of the Benson's Lane precinct, posted by the Hawkesbury Cricket Club who share the facilities with the Saints. To put it in perspective, the building you can see is the clubroom, changerooms and canteen which is a 2 storey building. Thinking of you all. We're here to support however possible.
03.01.2022 Community is what we are all about. For anyone who is interested in getting involved in local community projects take a look below.
02.01.2022 One week to go Goannas. The count down is on.
01.01.2022 This Sunday, the Goannas will be participating in a charity walk to support a teacher from our local community. One of our core values is Community and all Goannas Families are invited to support a wonderful person and cause. A dedicated primary school teacher for over 20 years, Karen is the first person to offer help and support to anyone who is in need. Karen has taught and mentored many Goannas in her years at Beresford Road Public School. In 2017 Karen was diagnosed with... a rare form of Appendix cancer which only affects 6 people per 500,000 each year. Following major surgery, 12 rounds of chemotherapy she was finally in remission in 2018, all believing she was cleared of the disease. However just 18 months later the cancer had returned. Karen showed her true character and began the fight again with another 12 months of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Unfortunately her fight has become harder and harder. Karen recently started Palliative care at home with the help of Mt Druitt Hospital. To show Karen how much she means to everyone and support her family, the Wakefield’s have organised a Ride/Run/Walk at Parramatta Park on the 14th of February starting at 7am to raise money for her chosen Charity Rare Cancers Australia.
01.01.2022 Today marked the offical last game as juniors for Julian and Blake from our U17s squad. Julian has been a Goanna for 9 years and Blake for 10 years. We wish these two the best of luck as they move beyond their junior footy years. Thank you for your sportsmanship and your loyalty to the Goannas club. Fine young men and fabulous footy players too.
01.01.2022 W E // A R E // B A C K Training resumes this Wednesday night at Gipps Road Sporting Complex (Goanna Park). Boys aged 8 - 16 and Girls aged 9 - 12 encouraged to join. ... Please bring your footy boots and a drink bottle. Get your mates together!
