22.01.2022 For this week’s #MonthoftheArtist spotlight, we’re highlighting the work of Julius Csotonyi. Julius grew up in Alberta, earning a Masters in Ecology from the Un...iversity of Alberta, followed by a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Manitoba. During his education, he spent some of his free time creating illustrations for publications. Our Museum regularly works with Julius to produce exhibit art, illustrations for new scientific discoveries, and more. He has also created art for the Royal Ontario Museum, Royal Canadian Mint, and National Geographic. What is your favourite piece by Julius? See more

16.01.2022 Thank you North Star for hosting the Jurassic Joe Show. It was yet another great audience of Roars, Claws and Dinosaurs. https://m.facebook.com/northstarholidayresort/?tsid=0.7807333838186306&source=result

14.01.2022 Here they come! The tracks we are getting replicas of were made by theropod, ornithopod, sauropod and thyreophoran dinosaurs. All of these tracks have been be...en formally described and given scientific names (except for one of the sauropod tracks; see below). The theropod track (A) is named Megalosauropus broomensis, and was made by a meat-eating dinosaur that was about 1.5 m high at the hip. The ornithopod track (B) is named Wintonpus middletonae, and was made by a two-legged herbivore that was about 1 m high at the hips. There are two types of sauropod tracks. The first (C) is currently under study, and potentially represents a new type of track. There are both pedal (p = foot) and manual (m = hand) tracks assigned to this track type, which was made by an animal that was about 3.5 metres at the hips. The second sauropod track (D) is currently known as 'Broome sauropod morphotype A', and is also known by both pedal (p = foot) and manual (m = hand) tracks, made by a sauropod of equivalent size to the first one. The thyreophoran track is named Luluichnus mueckei (E), and includes both pedal and manual tracks. Luluichnus mueckei was probably made by a small stegosaur that was about 1 m at the hips. Track and trackmaker illustrations by Anthony Romilio, from Salisbury et al. (2017), Romilio et al. (2017) and Salisbury and Romilio (2019).

14.01.2022 In case y’all weren’t aware: Earlier this year, the Chicago Field Museum premiered a model of Sue (one of the largest and most complete T-Rex skeletons ever fou...nd) accurate down to the scars and injuries. Note the binocular eyes, fleshy lips, scutes above the eyes on on the cheeks, and her overall CHONKiness - truely a modern masterpiece EDIT: The statue was created by the artists at Blue Rhino Studio, they make tons of amazing models like this!

12.01.2022 Exercise and Learn with Dinosaurs We have put together some home-schooling dinosaur track activities for Kindy to P 5 children and would like some feedback abou...t what works and what does not before finalising them. Some activities you can do at home, and there are lots to do on the beach (provided you comply with social-distancing requirements). If your family would like to have a go contact [email protected] and put in the subject line ‘Dinosaur Activities Trial’. We’ll send the activities package to you within a day, remember to let us know how things went. If you are not confident about identifying dinosaur tracks, don’t worry we give you a link to a useful guide. Thanks to Lotterywest for funding this initiative.
