19.01.2022 LOW BACK PAIN I've had a very sick, grumpy and sleepless 2 year old on my hands for a few weeks and so I've been doing A LOT of video 1 and ended up with a very achy and sore lower back. It's not ideal to be rocking and holding approx a 14kg weight all hours of the day and night but #mumlife ... There's no specific injury or damage occurring, just a case of doing too much of a specific task too often. So I can't modifying the load however there's plenty I can do to help ease the pain. Some basics to start: 1. Alternate positions as much as possible (unless they're alseep then never ever move - you're stuck there for eternity ) 2. Heat pack or a warm shower over where is hurting 3. Get moving! This quick routine (SWIPE ) got my stiff and sore back moving and feeling much better. 4. Go for a walk or swim 5. Drink more coffee Pilates based exercise is a fantastic treatment modality. 16.01.2022 Knowing what hurts or having a diagnosis for your condition is important. As primary healthcare clinicians we can effectively diagnose your problem and guide you on the path to recovery. However a diagnosis is only a label. WHY you have that diagnosis is just as important to us. Is it due to doing too much, too soon, after not enough? Is it due to repetitive tasks or static postures? Addressing those factors in an individual and specific way is how Physiotherapy works Know...ing WHY you've ended up with a specific diagnosis allows us to address the underlying cause of your injury or pain. Because you can treat the symptoms all you want but if you don't address the causative factors you're not going to get better in the long term. We're here to help you get better and work towards self management. Your healthcare provider should only be your guide (albeit a very qualified one) not your hero (*hint you're the hero!) #jurienbayphysio

01.01.2022 Recently I had a patient come in who was in a lot of pain. She had had multiple previous injuries, an extensive history of chronic pain and lots of medical and specialist management. She just wanted to get moving again and also had a trip planned but she was concerned about being able to enjoy the experience at all due to the crippling nature of her pain. With some evidence based education, reassurance, specific and personalised treatment and exercise prescription, steady and... well monitored progressions, plus lots of determination and commitment from the patient, she is doing so well and enjoying her life again. AND she swam with the whale sharks on her holiday! Something she didn’t think would be possible due to her pain just a few short weeks ago. It’s not only the number of calf raises or squats that you can do that shows your improvement from good physiotherapy. It’s the everyday achievements that may not have been possible before.
