09.01.2022 *Tanning tip Tuesday Hi guys, just want to touch on a subject that many tanning techs are facing in the spray tan world. Im not saying that this is a problem of mine, and really what you do in the shower is none of my business well it shouldnt be!... The subject that I am going to make you aware of is PEEING IN THE SHOWER Like I said, what you do in the shower is your own business. However when you pee in the shower when rinsing off your tan, it kind of puts us in a position where it becomes our business too. This can be a disaster. After researching this subject I have discovered that there are apparently many benefits to weeing in the shower, but at this particular time its not. When rinsing your tan, you also should not be using any products like soap, shampoo or conditioners. Just a quick 60 second rinse off. When you tinkle in the shower whilst rinsing off your awesome tan, you could also be stripping it causing flow lines down your legs. This can strip the tan as the tan is still developing and your urine can be acidic due to diet. Flow lines from water can also happen when rinsing your tan if you dont rinse the tan off properly, but those can usually fix themselves in another rinse off so that all the excess bronzer is off. The classic signs for knowing that you have peed in the shower are that after discovering that you have flow lines and they wont come off in another rinse off, and well, you know you peed in the shower, you also have lines running down your legs starting from your top inner thighs, going down either the back or front of your inner legs. So next time you get a spray tan, please try to hold off peeing in the shower. Us spray tanning techs really dont want to ever have to ask about your shower business because its your business not ours ~ Happy showering Cheers Jules

07.01.2022 *Tanning tip Tuesday I often see the question being asked about shaving and what to do to get the pores to close in time so that spotting doesnt occur when being spray tanned.... The pores arent so much the issue when shaving right before a spray tan, but the issue lies with the product that has been used on the skin to shave the legs. The golden rule that all spray tanners should be reiterating to their clients is; NO PRODUCTS SHOULD BE PLACED ON THE SKIN THE DAY OF THE SPRAY TAN APPOINTMENT. This includes body wash/soap, moisturisers, deodorants, perfume or makeup. Firstly, because products like body washes/soaps etc have a very high pH level (alkaline) and they raise the pH level of the skin. The higher the pH level of the skin the more chance you have of the tan turning golden or orange. Secondly, because products like body washes/soaps/shaving creams etc can dry out the skin especially in areas where the skin is thinner (ie shins). Placing a product like spray tan solution on the skin straight after shaving will result in a dryer result and will end up with a spray tan result that will crack in a day or two. With those solutions that contain alcohol/ethanol in the solution formulation can sting the skin if its been freshly shaved as well and potentially irritate the skin. The reason why we need to shave the day before the appointment is to allow the moisture back into the skin, by its natural excretion of sebum, which is a natural lubricant that helps moisturise and protect our skin. Shaving the day before also allows us to moisturise the day prior to the appointment to ensure the skin is ready for the spray tan appointment (never moisturise the day of the appointment). Thirdly, because the product may leave a barrier on the skin resulting in a lighter result in spray tan colour. Spray tan results are lighter in areas where the skin is thinner anyway; ie the shins, the chest area, and why fake boobs tan lighter (especially when they are new) because the skin is stretched and thinner of this area). Pores dont have muscles, so they cant open and close. Some people just have larger pores than others and thats why some people will clog with spray tan bronzer and others dont. It doesnt happen to everybody. The function of the pore is to allow us to sweat and keep our body temperature normal. Hot water doesnt actually change the size of the pores, but you can release blocked pores by steaming or hot water as it helps get rid of the debris that is stuck in the pores. Cold water wont close them. People with larger pores or those people who tend to get a spotty result when they spray tan and want to train their pores to be less noticeable should try washing more regularly, especially after anything that makes them sweat, like exercise. People with larger pores should exfoliate more often as well as this will help tame the size of the pore. Cheers Jules
