24.01.2022 Strength work..to fix chronic pain Yes I have had back pain for about 20 years. I need to fix it. I have started seeing a functional pilates trainer to re-train the way I move. He strips it down to basics, working on my gait, checking my range of movement, watching my tendencies and correcting them.... He creates initial instability to create stability overtime. He creates an emotional connection with movement. His job is to re-pattern the way I move: Observe how you load limbs Which muscles you favour Re-align old movement patterns Stabilise to prevent injuries and falls while increasing awareness. If you live East in Sydney, I recommend Tom Roman, otherwise please find yourself someone who can fix your movement habits if you suffer from any chronic pain or you always have injuries. Remember that there is a lot of self esteem tied into movement. Pain is a great inhibitor



24.01.2022 MY TOOLKIT for getting out of a funk = my 3 M’s to change my MOOD 1. Music 2. Movement 3. Meditation... I don’t have to do all of them BUT i have to do at least one of them if I want to change my mood. yes I know sometimes it’s nice to indulge the stillness or the quiet when you can. Yes I use essential oils in the house to lift my spirits on a daily basis. But If I’m out and about and need a quick pick me up..one of my M’s will always to the trick. If I don’t work on changing my mood, I reach for chocolate, another coffee or am generally surly..no fun to be around during school holidays thats for sure ;) Any mood hacks that work for you?

23.01.2022 SCHOOL DAY FOOD JOURNAL: for the kids..quite different from the parents 4 meals in total to keep them satiated 1. Quick breakfast: corn tortillas with scrambled eggs, nitrate free bacon and broccoli sprouts (the boy had 2)... 2. School morning tea: organic fruit, broccoli sprouts, veg and Jamon 3. School lunch: veggie soup and my incredible new salt from @phycohealth 4. Family dinner: whole lamb chops, kale chips, carrot and apple salad, baked beetroot chips and kraut. 5. Kid dessert: made by the hungry 7 year old: egg yolks from our pastured chickens, banana and cinnamon bark essential oil (in the thermomix in about 4 minutes)Lamb from @wholebeastbutchery - bought as a whole lamb for the freezer..you want nose to tail? you got it!! (yes its a real photo) Please get rid off a cupboard full of toxic cleaners that harm the planet and harm the family You could replace all these cleaners with ONE, LOW TOX, CHEAP, POWERFUL, ... 17.01.2022 School holiday breakfast plate for hungry kids: Poached egg from their own chickens (one of their hens just started laying) Smoked Salmon (wild caught if possible, not farmed) thank you @thecanadianwayau Capers... Good quality cream Kraut Token Veggies from the garden Umeboshi plum They planted a lot of the veggies, they care for the chicks, they negotiated with me when I bought the smoked salmon, they helped make the kraut. We have the time now to do all these things and the more connected they are to their food and the food source, the more readily they eat everything! Master 7 has struggled with smoked salmon but once we added the thick cream and capers, he nailed it!! Loving school holidays and time.

17.01.2022 Slowly figuring out what fear really is

17.01.2022 DINNERS Family time. We always try and eat together so dinners end up happening at 630pm. We pick a favourite the kids will eat fast..this week it was carrot and apple salad with good egg mayo and sesame seeds, or home made coleslaw.... Pick a protein: this is a building block for kidsgreat for brain health, building and repairing muscles and mood stabilisation. This week we had barramundi cooked in ghee, chicken dummies coated in tapioca flour (our version of KFC) and OX TONGUE (slow cooked version gifted to us by @staraniseorganic that we sliced up and refried in chicken fat ) Lots of greens, various carbs like beetroot chips, potato with yoghurt or sweet potatoe. Kraut and beet kvass (great for blood and blood pressure). It’s a myth that kids need plenty of grains/ carbs to function properly. This week they had oat porridge some mornings, oat porridge pancakes, seed breads, occasional rice crackers (with a fatty topping). The secret here is: the kids don’t know any different. This is what dinner is. There are no other choices. poor kids eh ;) @ Sydney, Australia

If a mother or grandmother ever needs an excuse to connect with her child, this is it. Connection in nature is a double serotonin hit as green time decreases cortisol levels and anxiety while physical connection improves the bond with your child, while lowering blood pressure. The boys built fires, cooked some food and served dinner!!

09.01.2022 Do you have a weekly, non-negotiable family activity?? I know of families that do a weekly: movie night restaurant night... cinema night morning swim (rain hail or shine) boat adventure bushwalk bikeride. We do a Sunday family adventure day. We take it in turns to decide if its a bushwalk, swim, urban hike or beach day. Today was a 3 hour stroll through a harbour side National Park, past a nudist beach (lots of jokes about biggus dicous) and a swim in the harbour. I know this time together is priceless and the fact the kids are still agreeing to go is amazing. I am filled with gratitude today for this beautiful city and for my family. My favourite part was a very chaotic DIY with about 30 people. We were speaking about the how and the why of kicking chemicals aside and embracing low/no tox living. 05.01.2022 Lightness I can’t be the light for my kids but I can certainly be the lightness. Since the change that we are all experiencing, I decided a few months back to call in my skills.... I love play, i love fun, I love to move and and make up silly games. Not everything has to be serious. Every time i find that I start getting a heavy heart, I focus on the lightness. Most times when my kids are arguing..I try to break it up with laughter, movement or simple adoration. It’s a learning curve yet every day I practise lightness, it gets easier. Just like gratitude. The more discussions I have with my friends and clients, the more I realise that the majority of us need to LIGHTEN UP, one way or the other!! Let me know what lightening up means to you?

03.01.2022 Gratitude for my kids this week, showing me how to re-connect with my inner child. See, there are benefits to having kids as an older mum ;). I would have never rediscovered mountain biking if it wasn’t for the crazy 8 year old.... Doing my last run through the pine forrest, I had such a massive smile on my face. I was no longer doing this for my kids but I was doing this for me. 02.01.2022 control I had incredible plans for my day..work, exercise, meditation, 2 zoom calls and a client and thenlife happened. My little boy who was meant to be away for 24 hours ended up staying home insteadplans change. The initial annoyance and subsequent cancellations were outweighed by the most amazing, unplanned, unstructured day of sitting in caves reading books to each other, building tunnels on the beach and pushing each other off the Bronte sidewalks.... I am slowly relinquishing control of what I want and trying to embrace what life has in store for me..without guilt and without frustration. 01.01.2022 REFRAME I had a big day planned today BUT my little guy had to stay home,,, I felt myself get frustrated as I had to change many plans, rebook, reschedule, pull favours and cancel things.... After I got over myself, zoomed out and saw that it was an opportunity to re-connect and do something fun with my 7 year old.I ended up having a fantastic day. Take time to reframe, put a positive spin on the situation or change perspective and all will be well.it may even be better ;)
