25.01.2022 This made me laugh, anyone willing to give this a go?

25.01.2022 Are you confused about sugar?

23.01.2022 Follow this formula to create a healthy lunchbox.

23.01.2022 The WHO recently suggested we shouldn't be having more than 6 teaspoons of added sugar per day. It is easy to check how much sugar you are having by looking at the nutrition information panel and reading amount of sugar per serve. 1 teaspoon of sugar is about 4.5g. Be sure to compare the amount you eat with what the packet says is a recommended serve.

20.01.2022 An interesting read that will convince you fat is not as evil as we have believed it to be.

19.01.2022 You won’t find many processed foods without added sugar. It is worth reading the labels though to see how much sugar is in the serve of food you or your child is about to eat. The calculation is simple.... divide the grams of sugar per serve by 4.

19.01.2022 Food School has commenced for 2017. Last week we held the first of our informative parent sessions and we look forward to working with their children at session 2 in two weeks time. Please feel free to contact us to find out about our food school program.

18.01.2022 Has your Gp ever told you that you have a fatty liver. It’s a leading cause of diabetes and heart disease. Many people with excessive abdominal fat have a fatty liver but don’t realise it... fortunately it can be easily reversed with the correct diet.

18.01.2022 Back to school means preparing lunch boxes agaib. Whether you prepare the night before or first thing in the morning healthy lunches require thought and planning. When you know your child's likes and dislikes you can plan ahead... cut some fruit up at the start of the week, freeze sandwiches, bake a cake and use half for one week and freeze the other half for another week. Think about all the prep you can do at the start of the week to reduce the time it takes each day

17.01.2022 Millennial cooks are apparently loving these quick paced step by step video recipes. So am I! They are satisfying to watch and make cooking look easy.

16.01.2022 This Dad has the right idea. Food allergies can be scary for many children and their parents. Making food fun is a great way to help your child eat.

16.01.2022 A truly delicious healthy cake for school lunch boxes. Highly recommend it. http://www.abc.net.au/local/recipes/2014/01/29/3934279.htm

16.01.2022 It is refreshing to think that diabetes may be a reversal disease. Reducing carbohydrates may not be right for everyone but there is growing evidence to suggest that for some people a low carbohydrate diet can dramatically improve if not reverse their diabetes.

15.01.2022 Insulin resistance can be the driving force behind type 2 diabetes and heart disease. It can be better managed by reducing added sugars and processed carbohydrates. Herman Brot produces a great lower carb alternative to regular bread.

14.01.2022 The impact of sugar on our bodies is quite simple. We eat it, we crave it and we eat some more and during the process it is creating a plethora of diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, fatty liver and of course obesity. Sadly these diseases are not linked just to adulthood. Many children now display early signs of these diseases.

14.01.2022 What am I... I am often a 'natural' blue, red, yellow or orange I contain at least 10 tsp of sugar!!!!! I am full of preservatives Have have less potassium than a banana... and am too frequently seen on the side of a young child's sport field? I am an energy drink What is just as good as me?..... a banana and a glass of water! See more

13.01.2022 Sugar in 250 mls of Coke is less than in the same volume of juice. Removing the juice from your child's lunch box can remove 6 teaspoons of sugar.

11.01.2022 Never judge a book by its cover. Eating disorders come in all shapes and sizes and we need to remember that people in larger bodies can suffering from the same devastating medical complications as those who are very underweight

10.01.2022 If you are having trouble controlling your blood sugar levels, it may be time to rethink breakfast https://theconversation.com/forget-toast-and-oatmeal-low-ca

10.01.2022 For children with allergies and intolerances this Easter

09.01.2022 Many of my clients are familiar with the RPAH chemical elimination diet. The new edition of this cookbook is now available at www.slhd.nsw.gov.au

08.01.2022 Easy rusk recipe for your baby.

08.01.2022 Homegrown food from my son's agriculture class. One of the best things he has learned at school so far

08.01.2022 A simple reminder of what sugar does to our health

07.01.2022 It's always helpful to know where to direct a newly diagnosed coeliac.

06.01.2022 Do you want to get your child to eat vegetables? If your child refuses to eat them, then just play. Keep it as simple as that. This will turn something that fills your child with dread and fear into something fun. Don't push them to eat just yet, just play.

06.01.2022 If you have diabetes or are having trouble losing weight around your middle it can help to reduce the quantity of carbohydrates you eat. This doesn't mean eliminating all your favourite foods all of the time. The Protein Bread Mix company has some great low carb alternatives that are also gluten free.

05.01.2022 Many children eat very little at school and bring home nearly full lunch boxes. There can be many reasons for this and it is sometimes not such an easy problem ...to solve. Here are some helpful tips to think about? 1. Are you packing too much? - is your child overwhelmed by choice. Sometimes packing less makes it easier to choose. 2. Would it help to have two small lunch boxes - one for morning tea and one for lunch? 3. Is there too much pressure to eat quickly to go and play? -try peeling the mandarin, cut food into smaller bite size pieces 4. Are you packing foods your child doesn't like to eat? - ask your child to help you pack the lunch boxes

05.01.2022 We all know fruit is healthy but many of us eat way too much. Too much sugar will raise our sugar levels and will contribute to 'sugar cravings'. Try to limit your fruit to two pieces per day and choose one piece from the low sugar group

04.01.2022 How many times have you told your child to have a piece of fruit when they are hungry? Many children are constantly hungry because they eat too many packaged and processed foods. The problem with these foods are they are low in fat and high in sugar. These foods are often used quickly for energy and are therefore not very filling. Going back to full fat dairy and serving some protein with each meal can stop your child from feeling hungry outside of their meal time.

03.01.2022 Margarine with added butter and Coke with added fibre... seriously??

03.01.2022 Anyone else confused? Full fat foods are often lower in sugar, more satisfying keeping you feeling fuller for longer and require less processing

02.01.2022 Could your child’s behaviour be caused by food? 160b also known as annatto is a natural food dye used to colour foods. It is one of the few natural colours known to cause adverse reactions in sensitive children. It is often used to colour foods a ‘buttery’ colour so is frequently found in margarines, custards, ice creams and yoghurts.

02.01.2022 A kind deed from Gordon Ramsay.

02.01.2022 Today the members of Maroochy Men's Shed put down the tools and engaged in Home Instead's first Cooking & Nutrition Workshop. A big thank you to the President o...f the organisation, the members in attendance, Alice from Sunshine Coast Family Dietitian & to our amazing CAREGiver Anne who prepared the food and led us through the cooking demonstration like a pro! This first session included an expert presentation on "Heart Healthy Eating", an introduction to accessing in-home care services and a cooking class on how to prepare some simple and nutritious meals. Acknowledging the real link between a healthy diet and general health and wellbeing, its hoped that this program will promote maintaining long-term independence and break some of the stigmas associated to men's health ! 01.01.2022 Such an important message. So much research now pointing at sugar as the cause of heart disease

01.01.2022 A very good read on how to promote healthy eating in children, and a reminder of some of our behaviours that may impact their thoughts on food, weight and dieting
