25.01.2022 This message from me is simply a reminder to all of my friends and family in Victoria and in particular greater Melbourne, to remind you that the rest of us outside your borders are with you every step of the way. Its also another reminder about the importance of reaching out and maintaining communication with those outside your 4 walls. Mental health is suffering and people are scared, lonely and overwhelmed. ... If this is you, please call Lifeline, Beyond Blue, Sane and of the other online and telephone support networks that are there to help you through. Lots of love

24.01.2022 Many people like to talk. Few have something to say. For it is courage that is is found in those who are brave enough to truly share their story.... Taking a deep breath and getting prepared to tell you it all. ‘Sobriety delivered everything alcohol promised’. 24.01.2022 LEARN to LET GO! When things aren’t going as you had envisaged and you feel defeated, listen for the lesson. It’s always there. ... When you’re holding on to the negativity of the past how can joy possibly be let in? There is simply no room. LISTEN to what stirs your heart. FEEL for what moves your soul. LOOK for what catches your eye. You already have all the answers. But remember you can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one. IS it your TIME to MOVE on? #sober #recovery #alcohol #epidemic #addiction #dependency #sobermovement #bethechange #mentalhealthawareness #anxiety #ocd #type1D #type1Dathlete#healthymindhealthybody #onelife #fitlife #onlinecoach #mentor #writer #model #fitmum #fitover40 #livingnotjustbreathing #present

24.01.2022 Is it just me or anyone else ready to take their hands off the wheel? Yes, it’s that time. Here are few of my key tips to staying on this side of the sanity fence in the last days of the silly season. ... 1. Do what you can. Now is not the time to bite off more than you can chew. 2. Set boundaries. Say no if you know it’s added pressure you don’t need. 3. Try to eat at least one nutritious meal per day. Your body needs it. 4. Get to bed early. Lights off as soon as you can. Personally I also take a good dose of magnesium and other supplements that calm my nervous system and promote good sleep. 5. Remember what Christmas is really all about without all the material things. Enjoy the time you have with the ones you love. Because that’s what really matters.

24.01.2022 When feeling a little low and in need of a pick me up, do the following: 1. Search through Spotify and find some old tunes that made you giddy in High School. (Reminiscing jolts new and old emotions) 2. Ring a friend that just gets you and is guaranteed to make you laugh. (Laughter cures everything)... 3. Put your runners on and get out amongst nature. (Exercise and oxygen. No better combination) 4. Smile at a stranger at the shops. (To give is to receive) 5. And lastly, jump in your brothers vintage Chevrolet with your metallic silver jacket and aviators and be reminded of that promise you made to yourself when you were 19 that you would somehow change the world. (Because one person at a time I believe my message can). Feel free at add to the list in the comments. . #sober #recovery #alcohol #epidemic #addiction #dependency #sobermovement #bethechange #mentalhealthawareness #anxiety #ocd #type1D #type1Dathlete#healthymindhealthybody #onelife #fitlife #onlinecoach #mentor #writer #model #fitmum #fitover40 #livingnotjustbreathing

21.01.2022 CHOOSE YOUR DOPAMINE HITS WISELY! Kind of like, "pick your poison". Dopamine is a chemical produced by our brains that when released makes us feel pleasure. It's released in our brain whenever we get or expect to get a reward. So many different kinds of real-life rewards result in the release of dopamine. ... Having a super delicious meal, sitting on a deck chair by the pool on holiday, going on a long run, having sex, compliments from a stranger. The lists goes on. And yes, SHOPPING is one of mine. The pleasure associated with dopamine is strong and incredibly addictive and will ultimately motivate your actions, often on an unconscious level, to seek out more of those rewards in the hopes of gaining more pleasure. The complex thing is that not all sources of dopamine are good for us. E.g. Drugs, alcohol, junk foods, risky behaviours. The key to harnessing that feeling is finding a source of dopamine that works for you, not against you. Here are some ways to get your dopamine hit in a non destructive way. *Get out in the sun - Vitamin D works wonders *Increase your physical contact - hugging is AMAZING! *Listen to music - Songs from your teens that makes you giddy. *Take a cold shower - both invigorating and dopamine stimulating. *Exercise regularly - producing serotonin & endorphins as a bonus. And caffeine. Another one of my favourites. Found in coffee, green tea and of course dark chocolate - in moderation of course. What's your favourite HEALTHY dopamine chase? #dopamine #sober #recovery #alcohol #addiction #soberliving #wedorecover #sobrietyissexy #mentalhealthadvocate #anxiety #ocd #type1D #tranformation #healthybodyhealthymind #fitlife #flexibledieting #fitness #onlinecoach #mentor #author #fitmum #fitover40

20.01.2022 MY TOP 5 TIPS for.... Stepping into the social arena 'ALCOHOL FREE'. For most of the population the thought of entering the social arena alcohol free would not be a concept they would ever really consider. After all, we are a drinking nation. In fact we are the largest population (per capita) of social drinkers in the world. It’s become an integrated part of our culture and a very acceptable one at that. ... So when someone comes along and says, hey I’m not drinking today, or even worse, hey, I’m not drinking ever again, the room goes quiet, the panic buttons are hit and all of a sudden that person has a million and one questions fired at them as to why they were bucking against the norm. Alcohol is the only drug you have to justify why you are NOT taking it! For some of us the choice to stop drinking has not come from a happy go lucky voluntary headspace. It’s come from the need to gain back control of our lives, our health and our ability to say ‘no’. So how do we integrate back into society without feeling like a social leper and to be honest, make things a little easier on ourselves? Let's also remember that alcohol is not only chemically addictive, it’s psychologically addictive and therefore we believe we NEED it to be confident and capable. 1. The first few months are tough. To be honest, if you are able to go straight out into social situations where everyone is drinking and you are not with no angst or stress, you’re ‘Superhuman’. The initial phase is a lot about self-protection. You can’t expect to be exposed to these situations with a nil affect. Spend this time distracting yourself with things that benefit your health, like exercise, good nutrition and sleep and reconnecting with the things that you used to love. 2. When you do start to socialize again, choose a time of the day that you know you are least likely to be enticed. For me, that was always breakfast or brunch. That time of the day you are less likely to be faced with the opportunity to drink. And just remember, you don’t need to do a whole heap of explaining. Simply tell your social circle that this is when you are available. Tip 3/4/5 in comments or swipe right.

15.01.2022 Are you WINE’ng down to WIND down? It’s become more than acceptable to ‘wine’ down at the end of the day with a glass or two, or 3 and maybe 4. It’s the much easier option when it comes to calming the storm in our heads from our day and ultimately whatever it is that’s occupying our thoughts. But swapping the fish bowl glass of red for leggings and your runners just might provide you with a much stronger set of natural coping mechanisms than what you had previously thought.... Fun facts about exercise, the brain and mental health: * It promotes neural growth. * Reduces inflammation in the brain. * Creates new patterns that promote calmness and well-being. * Releases endorphins (those feel good chemicals). * Reduces overall tension. * Provides you with a distraction or diversion when you are dwelling. The benefits of exercise with mental health issues are simply endless. When we feel depressed, anxious or overwhelmed, exercising is often the one thing that we least feel like doing. Ironically, exercising at this time, is the one thing we should be doing. There were times in my addiction that entering the supermarket sober was too overwhelming. But now I know that I will eventually get through anything as long as I am SOBER. There’s no doubt that training makes you stronger physically, but the strength it can provide you psychologically is extremely powerful. 15.01.2022 LOOKING FOR A LOW CALORIE MEAL FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY? Say hello to my Savoury Mince! One of the more frustrating parts of sticking to a calorie allocation is working this in with the rest of the family. Cooking different meals for different people is never ideal and honestly, as if we don't have enough to do already!... In my household I try to look for meals that can be used as 'foundation' and simply modified to suit each person and their goals. e.g. Low carb - simply have on it's own or with zucchini noodles or konjac noodles. High carb - bump up with rice, pasta or potatoes. High fat - add a few poached eggs and avocado. Recipe: 1 kg lean 5 star mince 3 large carrots diced 1 medium onion 1 cup of frozen peas 2 zucchinis diced 1 tablespoon of garlic 2 tablespoons of beef stock powder 2 tablespoons of tomato paste 2 tablespoons of Keens curry powder (or more if you like) Method: Cook the vegetables first in a non stick frying pan then put aside Cook the beef on its own Add the veggies back in to the mince Add all other herbs and spices Add 1 cup of water, turn on a low heat and put on a lid to simmer for 10 minutes A versatile meal that can be eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner! If you are unsure as to how to track this, you simply need to add it into Myfitness pal as a bulk recipe and then work out your portions. You're welcome! #flexibledieting #mealprep #familymeals #sober #recovery #alcohol #epidemic #addiction #dependency #sobermovement #bethechange #mentalhealthawareness #anxiety #ocd #type1D #type1Dathlete#healthymindhealthybody #onelife #fitlife #onlinecoach #mentor #writer #model #fitmum #fitover40

15.01.2022 We all suffer from fatigue from time to time. Our lives our full to the brim with work, family commitments, social engagements and every day chores. And then on top of that we are all 'hustling' in some shape or form to better our lives and better ourselves. I get tired, just like you.... In fact the last week I made a pact with myself to have the lights out by 9.30pm every night and to be honest, it's been awesome. I'm fresh when I wake up, I'm focussed during the day and my training is always stronger. When you're rested your body has a chance to recover and provide you with even more energy the next day. I often listen to clients talk about how tired they are even though they get adequate sleep and have ruled out all other health issues and basic nutrition. That's when I will ask the question. What else in your life is zapping you of your energy? Are you actually exhausted from the abundance of 'things' in your life or is it something deeper that you haven't yet worked out how to deal with? Because I will guarantee you this. No amount of sleep will help if it's your soul that's tired. Start living the life you were destined for by being the person you were always meant to be. #livingnotjustbreathing #fixyoufirst #youarethedriverofyourenergy #sober #recovery #alcohol #epidemic #addiction #dependency #sobermovement #bethechange #mentalhealthawareness #anxiety #ocd #type1D #type1Dathlete#healthymindhealthybody #onelife #fitlife #onlinecoach #mentor #writer #model #fitmum #fitover40 #livingnotjustbreathing

14.01.2022 JUST IN CASE YOU WERE UNSURE, YES THIS IS ME. 22nd August 2009 - 36 years old. Let me set the scene for you.... 11 days earlier, my 7 year old daughter had been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. In one 5 minute consultation at our doctor's rooms, life as she and 'we' knew it changed. I was already drinking to medicate at this point and this just gave me another reason to want to escape. The enormity of the load that an insulin dependent child brings was beginning to hit me. The emotions.....so real and raw. Why her? Why not me! (Be careful what you wish for; my diagnosis came 8 years later) In a bid to gain some kind of control over my happiness, I decided to dye my hair brown. I know. It doesn't even make sense. But at that point all of my solutions to feeling less pain, less sad and less overwhelmed were focussed on anything and everything else other than the obvious. The elephant in the room; my alcohol consumption. The brown hair lasted 2 weeks but my misery went on for another 3 years. The lesson? Gosh there are so many. But what I do know is that each of us intrinsically knows what is right, wrong or indifferent in our lives and what we need to do to regain power. And if you're brave enough to make the hard decisions, you will be blessed with the greatest rewards. P.S. To learn more about my journey from addict to sober, go to the link in my bio and purchase my book. 12.01.2022 Hey....you....yes, you. I just wanted to let you know. I think you're pretty cool. ... I admire your self discipline and the respect you have found for yourself. I love how you've trained yourself to keep busy when your mind is playing tricks with you. I see how hard you work to be a better person every day and make your family proud. I admire the way you have transformed the destiny of your family by taking control of your own life. I also know that your biggest fear is ever being as lost as you once were. And most of all, I know sometimes you think that what you're doing is not enough. But I'm here to tell you it is. I also want to tell you I've got your back. If you fall I'll catch you. I know you. Because I'm the old you, still tucked away inside. Far enough away to not feel my presence, but closer enough for you to remember how far you've come. Self reflection. #sober #recovery #alcohol #epidemic #addiction #dependency #sobermovement #bethechange #mentalhealthawareness #anxiety #ocd #type1D #type1Dathlete#healthymindhealthybody #onelife #fitlife #onlinecoach #mentor #writer #model #fitmum #fitover40 #livingnotjustbreathing

06.01.2022 HELP ME CELEBRATE! In 2013 I created a little business called TLF The Life Factory, representing the opportunity for 'new life'. This was a 'pay it forward' business that was based on the benefits that fitness and all things health had given me after my own personal fall from grace. I started personal training sessions in my converted garage with and by the end of 2015 I had ventured into coaching online and was servicing a high volume of face to face clients. Somewhere in b...etween this I had found both comfort and solace in writing. Writing about my past, my present and my future with the themes mostly around sobriety, mental health and of course the underlying tone of how health and fitness ties this all together. This worked for me on a healing level and the bonus, it grew me an audience that wanted to listen. In 2019 I commenced the writing of my tell-all book and after several suggestions from various marketing entities, it became apparent that my business was really based on my own personal journey and that with the publishing of the book and the plans I have for moving forward, I've got to leave TLF The Life Factory, or at least the name behind. So welcome www.justinewhitchurch.com.au My images may start to look different but my catchphrase is still 'Freedom thru Fitness' and that is the intent of all of my programs. There will be workshops and seminars in the future along with retreats but COVID19 has delayed this phase short term. And of course the yet to be released book - 'Sobriety gave me everything alcohol promised'. To celebrate the name change and thank you all for your support this far I have thrown together a little EBook bundle for $9.95. Flexible Dieting - The Low Down is a beginner's guide to understanding how flexible dieting works. This is what I encourage ALL of my clients to learn so they can make educated food choices and live a 'meal plan' free life whilst still achieving their goals.AS A BONUS you will receive my re-branded version of '7 Ways to stop sabotaging your health and fitness goals' Ebook. Click here to purchase: https://justinewhitchurch.com.au/pr/flexible-dieting-ebook/ From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for allowing me this space to share my message in hope that others may find hope in my recovery.

05.01.2022 BEING SOBER HAS NOT CONFINED ME. IT HAS ‘FREED’ ME. Freedom from:... Going to an event and panicking if you only see 1 bottle of wine on the table. Frantically rushing to get home each day to take that first anesthetizing swig. Waking in the morning feeling like death with the detox tremors and overwhelming anxiety. Being of zero help to the family with anything that involves driving after 6pm. Fretting that you don't have enough alcohol in the house at any point in time. Hiding bottles in obscure places throughout the home so you could go undetected. Lying to your GP about why your blood tests were showing you were in deep trouble. Having to stop at public toilets on your way to work every morning (either vomit or diarrhoea). Ensuring you have your daughter's insulin doses correct at your most sober time of the day. Feeling like you are depriving your children of the Mother they deserve. Constantly crying and pleading with God to make it all go away. No, I'm definitely not missing out on a single thing that you may think I am. I am actually now FREE.

02.01.2022 Alcohol and relationship dynamics. I talk about this in depth in my upcoming book, but there is no doubt that both of us previously lived a lifestyle that was sending us to an early grave, but for me that was going to happen just that little bit quicker. The pic on the left. ... Me: Actually about 1 week away from my first emergency trip to the hospital after combining my meds with a dose of spirits at 9am in the morning, 47kgs, a shot to pieces liver and barely keeping up the fascade. David: Worried, concerned, unsure as to what was happening, struggling to keep it together and himself drinking away the stress. Relationship: Distant, disconnected, no intimacy and zero communication. The pic on the right. Me: 6.5 years sober, happy, healthy, confident, motivated, fit and full of life and purpose. David: Alcohol intake minimal, strong as an ox, in charge and laser focussed and calm. Relationship: Connected physically, psychologically, emotionally and so secure within ourselves that it is easy to let the other one spread their own wings. When you take away the filters (metaphorically), face your demons and remove the toxicity, look at what you have left to work with and then make decisions. I can assure you that although you may think so at the time, alcohol is not the glue keeping you together. #sober #recovery #alcohol #epidemic #addiction #dependency #sobermovement #bethechange #mentalhealthawareness #anxiety #ocd #type1D #type1Dathlete#healthymindhealthybody #onelife #fitlife #onlinecoach #mentor #writer #model #fitmum #fitover40 #livingnotjustbreathing
