24.01.2022 This week Pre Prep continued to explore Eric Carle titles, sequencing the events of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and retelling the story. Puzzles were also a favourite this week and as always, some quality time in the sandpit working as a team. #jkway

23.01.2022 Making the most of the beautiful weather this week, Junior Kindy 1 have been busy little bees in the garden helping to water the plants, investigating the new sprouts found on the succulents and taste testing the chives that they’ve been growing #thejkway

22.01.2022 Off to school we go! Pre Prep have made a map of all of the schools JK Cairns children will be going to in 2021! It is proudly displayed in the foyer. Hugh, Sonny and George are just three of our Pre Preps who are enjoying their final weeks at JK before heading off to school.

21.01.2022 She's here! It is with the greatest of excitement we announce the safe arrival of Mitsu and Takako's baby girl. Princess Chitose Fujita was born this morning. Both Mum and bub are doing well and Mitsu is over the moon and completely in love with his new Princess. Chitose is proudly our 15th JK staff baby ! Welcome to the JK Family Chitose. xx Congratulations Mitsu and Takako. Welcome to the world Princess Chitose.

20.01.2022 Pre Prep have gone puzzle crazy! Big puzzles, little puzzles, twenty piece puzzles, one hundred piece puzzles and everything In between. They may seem like a simple task, however the benefits of puzzles are endless! Puzzles develop problem solving skills, hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills just to name a few. Not to mention, the heart of everything we do at JK, language development, communication with peers and achieving success as a team. #jkway

19.01.2022 Kindy have started exploring how they can create shapes using loose parts. We are beginning to recognise different shapes when drawn, made or physically within our space. Kindy have been using the magnifying glasses to look deeper into the room to spot shapes in odd spaces.

Developing of fine motor skills through ‘whole-hand grip’ while climbing on the rope ladder & using the large spades in the sandpit.. 14.01.2022 Pre Prep found a wonderful balance of indoors and outdoors this week. Indoors we began exploring Lynley Dodd as an author and the use of rhyme in her texts while connecting to our own experiences. Outdoors, we connected with nature by investigating a caterpillar found in the backyard as well as some hard work in the JK Workshop! #jkway

13.01.2022 Yesterday across both JK Cairns and JK Gordonvale we celebrated "Early Educators Day" A day to simply pause, reflect and give thanks to our team. This year has presented our teams with extreme challenges, but in true JK style ... with grit and determination we have embraced these challenges head on. 12.01.2022 Today Junior Kindy 2 worked on building their sense of autonomy & self-help skills by making their own beds for rest time. From selecting their own mats right through to collecting pillows, blankets and comforters & putting them on beds, our JK2 friends did it all. When running into tricky parts of making beds the children worked together with their peers to get the job done! Excellent work JK2

11.01.2022 Book Week at JK Cairns was a huge success! Celebrating our love for reading ,language and literacy . Friday was full of fun with amazing costumes as everyone came dressed as their favourite characters .

04.01.2022 Magic happens when you combine natural resources (especially ones grown by the children) into everyday practice & art experiences. Using crushed berries from our wild spinach vine, we created our own paint. Using sticks to crush the berries and again to paint, the children from JK 1 & JK 2 we’re in total awe of the process of making the their paint and the outcome of the finished product #jkway
