25.01.2022 Pretty sure the dog thinks were crazy and dad hates calf raises! . . Its never too late to start strength training. These guys (my folks!) started in lock down and we have continued Murrays boot camp twice a week ever since! . Its been awesome to see them improve, especially knowing how important strength and stability are for leading a healthy life, long term.



23.01.2022 M E D I T A T I O N - Anyone else tried this App? Cant recommend it enough! My association with meditation has been around a lot of oooommmms and me getting frustrated most of the time, knowing that this is something I SHOULD do but cant ever seem to get into it. . 19.01.2022 Last night I was up a bit later than I would have liked. I was listening to Lisa Genovas TED talk on What we can do to prevent Dementia. . One of the most alarming things I learnt was that just one night of little sleep is enough to produce additional Amalyoid Beta, the chemical stubstance thought to be a major cause of Ahlzeimers by most neuroscientists in the form of Amalyoid. . So as I am trying to fall asleep, with the fresh knowledge of a Neuroscientist rattling aroun...d in my brain! When I start freaking out that I cant sleep knowing what its doing TO my brain. . . The moral of the story, switch the computer off early and dont listen to TED talks late at night. . The link to the Ted Talk (Dont watch it before you go to bed! Is in the first comment below!)

16.01.2022 Did you know that the ‘Trigger Point’ is a hotly debated topic amongst health professionals! Trigger points are at the core of musculoskeletal pain. Yet the exact reason they form, the mechanism behind them and even a precise description of trigger point is unclear and still debated to this day! The few things that are most commonly agreed upon:... They are a hypersensitive area within a muscle Upon touch there is a noticeable nodule or area of tightness. Pain will refer to a different area in the body, more often than not in a consistent pattern. Treatment, through applying direct pressure or dry needling onto these areas can relive pain and often improve joint range of motion. Although the exact science behind trigger points is still unknown, most experts agree that they are real and people experience benefit from treatment to these areas.

According to the Dutch Health Minister, at the 2019 World Dementia Council Summit Dementia poses a threat to health similar to HIV and Aids. It is expected that there will be 75 Million people with the condition worldwide by 2030. That is more than the current population of the UK. The current list of modifiable risk factors include: - Hypertension - Hearing impairment - Smoking - Diabetes - Obesity - Depression - Physical Inactivity - Low social and/ or community engagement - As well cognitive engagement and lower level of education They have now added the following based on growing evidence: - Excessive alcohol consumption - Traumatic brain injury - Air pollution What we do right now and how we look after ourselves today can significantly impact what happens later in life. 14.01.2022 I watched a fascinating presentation by Dr Frank Lin recently on his research into healthy ageing. His background is as an ENT surgeon and public health researcher. . . His team have looked into what are the aspects of life that we can modify that have an impact on healthy ageing. . . The diagram represents his theory and research over the last few years. .... . His team focused on treating hearing loss as a key due to its ability to impact dementia prevention, avoiding injury by decreasing falls risk and keeping people more socially and cognitively engaged. The flow on affect of better social interactions is also thought to help improve peoples mood and look after there mental health. . . Interesting to think a sense that a lot of us take for granted can have such a profound affect on peoples lives! See more

09.01.2022 The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has produced an updated report on Australia's Health: Australia's Health 2020, data insights. The report highlighted that almost half (44.6%) of Australian adults aged 18 - 24 were not performing sufficient physical activity to mitigate lifestyle risk factors associated with chronic health conditions like cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure. For 1864 year olds, insufficient physical activity was captured as not completing 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity across 5 or more days a week.
