23.01.2022 Wow my good friend Grant Giles always comes up with great examples we all can relate to as a coach and an athlete. This is a good read in timing with my first up coming short videos on how to get the prescribed training program from the paper to the water and develop the Gold Standard from every session.

21.01.2022 Looking for that Challenge that will snap you back into full training or just what to challenge yourself and your paddling friends in this 5 week training and Paddling Experience. Follow the link and learn how it works and what is require for a Molokai2Oahu crossing. https://justpaddling.com/product/molokai-to-oahu-experience/

20.01.2022 Improve Stroke timing off the water to gain efficiency on the water.

15.01.2022 Setting your GPS device for interval training session .Setting up your GPS device for quality on water training and monitoring progression

14.01.2022 Fly across your Kaiwi Channel like the Koa’e’ula bird on my new refined V7 12’ Prone Paddleboard. Because we are always changing and evolving to the different modes of the Ocean the board design must keep pace . What was good yesterday is better today .

14.01.2022 Covid 19 is easing here in Queensland with our borders closed we got the green light for a fun race today with the Local paddling groups and thanks to Chris Parker SUPRACER it was a successful start back. Good to see the paddlers that kept on the program in the lock down get the results congrats to Jackson Cosgrove . https://www.facebook.com/supracerr/videos/264201568005907/

13.01.2022 Why we use Pace to monitor training intensity over Heart rate with our Interval sessions https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=petSDhkdBqA&noapp=1#dialog

12.01.2022 Building Tolerance to Training fatigue to increase threshold paddling conditioning to paddle faster for longer.

11.01.2022 My first attempt at informal short videos to explain the Just Paddling training Methodology and how easy it is to get in quality training and monitor your progression. Today we look at setting up your craft OC1,sup, surf ski , kayak or Prone Paddleboard with your GPS device. Monitoring your training Intensity is the key to paddling faster for longer.

11.01.2022 Just Paddling monthly training programs , we look at the programs before we load the sessions into our GPS device and go out on the water

11.01.2022 Some things with paddling always need attention through all phases of a Training Plan. With some down time between racing and cold weather I went back to the basics of paddling and reminded myself of the importance of Stroke efficiency. I cut back my on water time ( because I got lazy and lacked motivation ) and spent sometime in the home gym with the Prone Ergo and some weights and the stroke timing and stroke efficiency surprised me how much you can improve with some little time and effort off the water.

11.01.2022 Come and join in on our Social distance afternoon paddles from Sept 9 th at Sth Palm Beach Pirate park . Plenty of car parking and Ocean and Flat water to choose from on the day. Come have a paddle and laugh and enjoy the paddle into the sunsets. Learn some skills at a leisurely paddling pace within the group and get some fitness for the coming summer months. As the Sunsets later we will add some distance to our paddles , totally free and fun so don’t bring your race shirt.

09.01.2022 Progression in training is a science and takes planning and understanding of that planning. We tried many things over 30 odd years of training/coaching and progressing with the latest science from each Olympic year to our own National and World championship what ever that maybe each year and through each year and every discipline of paddling its still comes down to the same things. Training Desire is at the top of that list, without desire you can't push at the prescribed t...ime in training and break through to Progress to that next level. Thats the big reason we use the 2x2 progression program still after many years but just with a better understanding of WHY, HOW and WHEN to use it. This article explains the two sessions ( Sprint Endurance and Endurance) that every paddle must have in their weekly Training Plan to remain in a Progressive training Phase. The photo below shows two sessions done this week on a Prone paddle board in flat water Interval training . The first session is Sprint /Endurance -lower Volume/Higher Intensity and the second session is Endurance -Higher Volume/lower Intensity. https://justpaddling.com/the-science-behind-just-paddlings/ See more

06.01.2022 I have been testing and developing my Just Paddling Training methodology over 30 years and its this time of each year I up-date to the latest sports science and test it in the field and modify my Training programs to stay ahead of the competition. I recently spoke at length with Nick Jankovskis about the similarities between the methods we both use and I really like the way he explains our 5 Training Zones. Nick has the ability to high tech Lab testing and the results we bo...th get are outstanding. Check out Nick on YouTube and Instagram @nk_sportscience for great explanations on what we are doing to paddle faster for longer. I will be starting some very informal short video’s on my instagram @justpaddling and Facebook pages on everything we do at Just paddling to get my programs from your training page to your GPS device and onto the water at the right intensities and in the right combinations to get maximum adaptation. https://youtu.be/Ym6S4zhEalc See more

06.01.2022 What and Why is FTP ( functional threshold pace )? I have had a lot of questions about training intensity, Heart Rate , speed , RPE , stroke rate and now Power . I test all new scientific information in the field in Training and racing and for paddlers its what you SEE and FEEL is what you get.If you are a Kayak paddler, it’s who was the fastest 1000m and for Molokai paddler it’s who can maintain the fastest speed for 52 km . So don’t fool yourself with technology it’s FEEL (... RPE) and SPEED ( kmh or mph) . Listen to me ramble on in my next informal video on how and why we should do this. To often paddlers are putting in their time to maintain speed and not improve speed . If you can’t hold 17.45 kmh in your kayak for 1000m you will not be lining up for a Olympic K1 final just as,if you are not doing a % of your training volume above your FTP in interval training you are training to go slow and improvements are minimal to none. 05.01.2022 I hear many questions from so many paddlers about the Knee paddling technique and see so many inefficient paddling techniques, they all propel the board forward but at a very high energy cost. Paddling faster for longer is about stroke timing and using the big muscles for drive and the stabilising muscles for efficiency and flow. Working the Neuro muscular system through concentric and eccentric resistant training enhances the strength, speed and endurance in every stroke.... Lifting heavy weights isn't specific to the paddling stroke but can build strength to some of the phases of the stroke but with out specific neurological muscular resistance training the paddling stroke breaks down. https://justpaddling.com/product/prone-paddling-ergo/

05.01.2022 Finding the right balance to stay Motivated to continue training progression can be difficult at times and in difficult times it's best to have a solid Training Plan to follow. https://justpaddling.com/is-your-training-virtual-or-is-it/

05.01.2022 It was good to get back on the water with my Training Group this morning and have a good feel on the water through every stroke. It was interesting to see how many paddlers have slip through the water in their strokes , this is a mis- timing between the driving legs and the arm strokes. Some things with paddling always need attention through all phases of a Training Plan. With some down time between racing and cold weather I went back to the basics of paddling and reminded myself of the importance of Stroke efficiency. I cut back my on water time ( because I got lazy and lacked motivation ) and spent sometime in the home gym with the Prone Ergo and some weights and the stroke timing and stroke efficiency surprised me how much you can gain with some little time and effort off the water.

05.01.2022 The practical use of Interval training on the water. Find your Threshold paddling Pace and you will know your correct training Zones and on your way to quick progression.
